Keeps Oil Separate. Heavy use can cause a great deal of oil to vent through the crankcase vent. Your engine’s PCV system feeds this waste oil back into the intake system for burning in the cylinders. However, the oil can dilute fuel and lower octane. The JLT V3.0 Black Oil Separator catches the oil fumes from the crankcase vent, storing them for occasional safe disposal. The oil separator keeps your fuel pure, ensuring maximum performance in your F-150.

Version 3.0. JLT improved on the designed of its old Oil Separator with the introduction of the new and improved Version 3.0. The first big change you will notice is that the Version 3.0 Separator has a larger 3 oz. capacity, that is almost double that of its previous model. Another important difference is the filter media. Older JLT Separators used a Ford Motorcraft pre-filter, but now JLT uses a 1/2" thick 1/16th" aluminum honeycomb filter with a mesh stainless steel screen to trap even more fine oil vapors than before. That helps prevent them from gumming up your engine.

Superior Quality. This JLT Performance Air/Oil Separator is proudly manufactured in the USA. JLT CNC-machines its Air/Oil Separator from a solid block of billet aluminum for superior strength. Designed with a rubber o-ring, this Separator will maintain a tight leak-free seal. The base features a knurled texture, so that it can easily be gripped for removal during routine oil changes. JLT then completes the Catch Can in a durable black anodized finish for impressive good looks and long lasting corrosion resistance.

Easy Installation. Installation is quick and easy. All parts and hardware necessary are included.

Application. This black JLT V3.0 Oil Separator is specifically designed to be used on the passenger side of the 2011-2018 F-150s equipped with either the 2.7L/3.5L EcoBoost, 5.0L or 6.2L engine. Not for use in California on any emissions-controlled vehicle.

Ask a Question

Why isn't the driver's side needed?

Sean

  • With the new models the oil only tends to come through on the passenger side and not the driver side, which is why many people run just the passenger side oil separators. You can run the driver side as well but most likely it will not catch anything as nothing comes through the driver side.

Will this void the factory warranty? Do you need one for the driver side also?

PatrickR

  • We suggest reaching out to your Ford dealer to check and make sure the JLT V3.0 Black Oil Separator will not void your warranty. The oil separator isn't required for the drivers side.

After install I get a strong oily smell in the cab, any way to prevent that?

John

  • If you are getting any odor in the cab after installing the JLT V3.0 Black Oil Separator, this is typically associated with a leak at one of the connections, or the threaded portion allowing crankcase gasses to enter the engine bay, which can make their way into the cabin.. We recommend checking for leaks and ensuring all connections are tight and secure.

Sorry to ask sort of the same question again, but in your previous answer, you stated "With the new models the oil only tends to come through on the passenger side and not the driver side". By "new model" are you referring to new Ecoboost engines and if so, what model year is defined as "new". I have a 2014. Thank you

Michael

  • We recommend the JLT V3.0 Black Oil Separator on the passenger side for all 2005 and newer Mustangs. The driver side is much less necessary on these models.

    Check your hoses

JLT makes excellent oil separators, but check to see what kind of hoses you receive. The Mustang JLT separators all use the OEM hard nylon tubes that are rated for use with oil/gas vapors. But for some reason, JLT chose to use Thermoid Air Brake Hoses (SAE J1402A) for some of the other applications (EcoBoost F-150/SHO/Explorer). Thermoid does not recommend the use of these hoses for gas vapors, and the pin hole vents in the hoses don't help as they were designed for moisture to vent out. Instead, gas vapors seep out of the pores of the hoses, and I found out the hard way after my garage just smelled of gasoline after 2 weeks of using the JLT. It was easy to switch out the hoses for Gates PCV/EEC hose (SAE J30R6) or fuel hoses (SAE J30R7) as they were 1/2" ID. Some of the vehicles don't have problems if all the separators catch is engine oil, but the EcoBoost GTDI engines have a lot of fuel dilution in the oil - so the separators are catching mainly fuel vapors and condensation. Again, these are great overall separators (not as efficient as RX or UPR - but still decent) if they use the OEM hard nylon tubes. If they have Thermoid Air Brake hoses, be prepared to swap them for PCV/EEC/Fuel hose which isn't hard or expensive to do.

fusionvic is right about the hoses

Not real happy to be sitting idling, or getting in my truck after remote starting it to smell oily gassy fumes in the interior. I will be switching out the hoses also. JLT should fix this!

    Extended Oil life

I bought a driver and passenger one. They cut down oil sledge and help keep engine oil cooled down. I'm using Royal Purple engine oil and a friction reducing additive, both are very expensive. These separators help extend the oil life to at least 5000 miles.

As always from my experience with jlt parts, the quality was top notch. Took less than two minutes and looks good. They provided the hardware to bolt to an existing bolt so no drilling needed.

    Jlt v3.0 oil separator

Good product, does what it says. After 2k mi or so had about 1 tblspoon of oil. Thats oil not coating my intake valves. I have black and it dissappears under hood. Is difficult to pull the canister off as it is close to firewall, scrape knuckles a little. Hoses are fine, dont notice any extra smell of fuel in my garage as some others have noticed.

Just installed on 2.7 EB, very easy, checked for oil only after 1000 miles, wasn't any! Will check after a few thousand. Might be new motor/no load.

    Works exactly as advertised.

Super easy to install!! It does collect oil as advertised. Best plug and play equipment I have ever purchased! Have not noticed any increase in performance or ease of cold start driving. But it definitely collects the oil, so I know it is working, as far as that.

    2017 Ecoboost

No pictures for the 2017 EB f-150. The fit was a little tight with the wire harness and the tube on the left (intake manifold). I was able to make it for after I moved a little clip holding the harness. I hope that doesn't cause friction and ruin the wires. Great at what it's supposed to do though.

Build quality good. Hoses too long for 3.5L 2017

Hoses are very rigid and long base on where they recommend to mount the can. I may consider moving it further away to allow smoother flow since right now there is no way to avoid long S curve to fit the hoses under the engine cover. Build quality seems very good.

    Easy install

Even though the ad and video said it was an easy install I am sometimes hesitant to believe. But to my surprise it was very easy to install. I think the most difficult part was the 6in lift I have on my truck. Had to pull out a step ladder. The instructions were of very poor quality. If I hadn't watched the video the instructions would have been completely useless. It seems to be made of very durable materials and it was simple to plug in the new hoses and mount the hardware. I have only had it installed for a short time so I won't comment on how well its performing. So I'm only giving it 2 stars for performance gain. I'm going to give it a few months then I will try to do review on how well it's working. Looks great and easy to install. Side note- I did have some extra parts after the installation, I'm guessing they are for other models of trucks as the instructions didn't provide much help.
