Review & Install Video

Hey everybody. I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is my detailed review of the Kooks Off-Road Long Tube Headers 1-7/8 inch in diameter available for your 2015 and up Mustang GT. Top quality materials here, guys, 304-grade stainless steel, impeccable welds, all made in the USA. There's really not a lot to nitpick there. This particular long tube is of the off-road variety meaning it's not going to have any cats which is typically going to deliver the biggest power in sound gains. They do include the cat-less portion of the downpipe or the factory connect here and what that means is this is going to hook up to your factory cat-back exhaust system or even your aftermarket exhaust system as long as it hooks up like a factory style. Now in browsing long tubes here at AM, you are going to stumble across a few different options and, honestly, they are all quality. Kooks. Stainless Works, American Racing, you're really not going to be making a bad choice no matter what you go with. Pricing wise, they're going to all fall somewhere between the $1000 to $2000 range, and the Kooks are going to land smack dab in the middle of that. Now let's face it guys, long tubes, they're not exactly a small investment but the results are worth it. Expect anywhere from 15 to 25-wheel horsepower depending on your tune in addition to that awesome change in your exhaust tone. Now, this is a 1-7/8-inch header here guys, and I think you're going to find this is the most commonly offered size for the long tube headers for your S550 Coyote-powered GT. I should point out, however, that Kooks does offer a slightly smaller runner in the 1-3/4-inch version of this header and we can discuss the differences in sizes till we're blue in the face, but here's what I'm going to tell you. Take my recommendation and go with the 1-7/8-inch header here. It's going to be just fine for your naturally aspirated light bolt on application. But if and when the urge comes for more power, and believe me, it oftentimes does whether it's through boost or otherwise, you're going to have plenty of header to grow into. All right guys, so let's pick this thing up. I'll actually walk you through it a little bit and show you what you're going to be working with here with the Kooks long tube. Let's start, first off, three-inch merge collector, but what you can't see is the scavenger spike that's located inside of this. It's Kooks' patented system. They claim it's going to help increase exhaust scavenging improving your exhaust flow in the process and improving your performance. Now one big thing I really like to point out here with the Kooks long tube is that all the primaries here one piece, mandrel bent from basically the flange all the way down to the collector. Now that's really huge because a lot of times on lesser brands, lesser quality headers, they'll use a bunch of small pieces of runner welded together to make these bends, but they can often crack because welds are sub-par. Not the case here with the Kooks. As you might expect, all the welds are completely beautiful and they even go as far as smoothing them out here on the flange side at the head just to help reduce any exhaust turbulence. Another thing that gets a big thumbs up for me, guys, is what Kooks includes in the package. We're looking at top of the line cosmetic exhaust gaskets, stage eight locking header bolts, and factory style O2 extensions. Again, stuff that you might not expect, but it is nice to see when you're forking out top dollar for a set of headers. As for the install, well again, guys, not going to sugar coat this one. It's a full three out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter. We called it a full day here on the site and that sounds about accurate. It might even stretch into two days if you want to leave yourself a weekend, probably the safe bet. You can do it on a jack stand but, believe me, doing it on a lift is going to make life a whole lot easier. And at the end of the day, if all this sounds like a big no thank you, spend the money, have them installed by your local shop. You can thank me later. I really have nothing negative to say about the Kooks long tube headers in the off-road variety. The quality is completely top-notch. Materials, welds, everything is completely on point. Guys, if you want to read up on some more customer reviews, feel free to do so here on the site. I'm Justin, thanks for watching. And for all things Mustang, keep it here at AmericanMuscle.com.

More Horsepower and Torque. A set of Kooks Long Tube Off-Road Headers will greatly improve the performance of your 2015-2017 GT Mustang. Kooks Headers feature an integrated venturi style collector that increases exhaust scavenging and reduces turbulence. As a result, it will improve your S550's exhaust flow over the restrictive stock manifolds, boosting your Pony's horsepower and torque numbers.

Quality Construction. Kooks Long Tube Exhaust Headers are manufactured from 1-7/8" mandrel bent 304 stainless steel tubing that merges into 3" collectors with scavenger spikes for superior airflow. These headers feature a leak-free ball and socket design for optimal performance and a better than OEM fit.

Recommended Upgrade. To realize the full power potential that these Long Tube Off-Road Headers have to offer, AmericanMuscle recommends a Bama custom tune with a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for proper operation.

Application. These Kooks 1-7/8 in Long Tube Off-Road Headers are specifically designed to fit the 2015-2017 5.0L GT Mustangs and is a direct bolt on to the stock exhaust system.

Technical Note. Not legal for use on pollution controlled motor vehicles; intended for off road use only. These Headers are intended for left hand drive applications only.

    HOLY BOMB TUBES BATMAN!

These headers are loud! I have them paired with the MBRP street cat back. The only part i do not like is how the little 80 degree connecting pipe necks down to 2.5". With the kooks catback it has the 3" pipe on the X or H pipe. I know it has minimal effects on the power but come on kooks.. I payed almost $1600 on the headers. Over all i am very happy with the setup. Brandon Dederita tuner specialist there at AM added a ghost cam to the tune and it sounds fantastic. I onstalled these on jackstands over the corse of two days. I will never do that again. I am sore in places that I didnt know muscles existed.

    The sound is addicting!

If you're undecided about which off road headers to get, get these! Trust me when I say this that you will not regret your decision. These headers just open up your engine as far as breathability goes and of course the sound. The sound is loud and you'll definitely need to keep your foot out of it around cops. If your mustang is your daily driver, then I wouldn't recommend these headers but that's your call. I went with these because my mustang is not my daily. My car has a magnaflow competition catback system on already, so at idle to about 3,000rpms the magnaflow rumble is amplified. 3,000rpms and up you get more of a raspy sound, which still sounds good, but then your car sounds more like a race car (which is fine my me). I will say that I still have the x-pipe on, so if you want that loud raspy sound at all rpms then I'd suggest getting rid of that. I had my local muffler shop install these headers and you're looking at around 7 hours of labor and ~$60 per hour of labor. Hope this helps!

    So loud!

I have had these headers on for 7 months. I have the Borla S type exhaust and JLT CAI. Before I installed the headers I had them coated with Cerakote ceramic coatings which cut the heat down under the hood a lot. I also had a Ford dealership install them. Wow this car is loud! At 6000rpm it is insane. The headers gave it a lot more torque down low. My car now makes 426.1 hp at the wheels after custom tune. My car is not a daily driver and would not recommend if your car is. I would recommend if you want your car to sound like you should be at the track in a race. I love the sound it never gets old...

Kook Catless Header with the Corsa Xtreme

I love the Corsa and kooks combo paired together. The cold start is obnoxiously loud though. My neighbors complain a lot. Luckily its not my daily driver because the exhaust is really loud.

    Great sound

Every thing was in the package. Looks good sounds good. Very hard to install if your doing it yourself. I did it by myself on jack stands in a garage. Make sure you have plenty of different length wrenchs to get in all the tight spots. I recommend you have a shop install them if you have the extra cash to save yourself a headache. Very happy with the product !!

    kooks headers

These headers are what you need need to wake your mustang up and unlease that power the convertors are restricting I went with the catless headers they are a little on the loud side so if you put these on get some quiter mufflers the install was fairly easy but the stage 8 lockers were time consuming altogeather these headers are awesome and you wont be sorry buying these

This is a mod that MUST be done on the new 2015 Mustang GT. With just the kooks headers, JLT CAI and a tune, I was able to dyno at 432 RWHP and 401 TQ. Boy what a difference did these make!

    2017 GT Mustang

I was looking around for a few months before deciding to picked these Kooks Headers up. I wouldn’t go with any other pair If headers. These come with new gaskets, O2 sensor extension and header bolts. The quaintly of construction is out of this world! I am very happy with this purchase and would not go with any other brand. I paired this up with Corsa Extreme 3” Mufflers, and Helix Xpipe. These will fit together without buying anything else with no problems. I spent a full weekend on floor jacks doing this setup with some friends in the driveway. The stock stuff little rough getting off but if you take your time and do it right will have no problems as well as having all the tools. I recommend this product to anyone who is wanting to upgrade there 2015-2017 GT Mustang. The power with even a bama tune is out of this world! The power gains is amazing paired with the JLT CAI as well. I smoke tires 1-2 and beginning of 3rd gear on 305’s Nitto G2 tires. Once tires are warmed up though it grabs pretty well for Street tires. Don’t even hesitate if you have the money to get this setup I have paired with Corsa Extreme catback exhaust. It’s so loud and gives that deep raspy growl instead of that deep rumble. It sounds really exotic and turns heads everywhere u drive! I get compliments everywhere I go and the car runs super healthy! I put these on with only 5,600miles on the car and this thing smokes newer corvettes that are stock anyways. Highly recommended and also there is not to much drone in the car but who cares when ur deleting cats and going with Corsa Extreme mufflers to make this car scream!
