Lots of people are saying to install motor mounts to stop the rub on the steering. Is this still an issue? If so can i just use a washer to raise the motor a bit or are proper bushings required? Also when combined with the Prochamber mid pipe do i lose the cats or is there room to keep the cats?

Will this product work with the bbk off-road xpipe for the 2006 mustang GT?

      • The MAC 1-3/4 in. Chrome Long Tube Headers requires the use of MAC Off-road Pro Chamber Mid Pipe, item 40041. The use of a different mid-pipe may work, however, due to differences in manufacturing tolerances and design there could be some fitment issues. https://www.americanmuscle.com/mac-shorty-offroad-prochamber-0509gt.html

Whats power gain over stock? im between these and a set of pacesetters

      • These long tube headers are advertised as creating an additional 42 RWHP when installed with a matching MAC shorty Mid Pipe and a tune. There will be some variation in overall power gain depending on other modifications and the tune applied.

          Great quality...but!!!

i bought these with the MAC Prochamber, the Headers fit great with no rubbing on the steering shaft like many have reviews said. the issue i had was the prochamber o/r mid pype, this did not fit well at all!!! do your self a favor and go with the pypes x pipe, the prochamber sits to low and scrapes alot, will need a trip to the muffler shop for some modification, i was expecting my car to be loud but its actually to quite for me. i have full bolt ons and ill tell you what the car pulls really hard. the headers really compliments my cams and other mods, very noticeable power gain

          Unorthodox mod

Used these headers with bbk cated xpipe. I had to use 3” 60 degree pipes that I cut to fit. Best sound I ever heard on a car period. People constantly turn to hear this deep sounding wicked muscle car. No power loss with bigger pipes. But the rear ended exhaust is still 2” everything above it is 3” and 2 3/4 xpipe 4 10 gears

          Great!....but

I’ve had these headers for a while, good perforance gain, good looking...but the fitment is not good at all. The driver side header was rubbing on the steering shaft even after having a shop try their best to fix it. Ended up getting polyurethane motor mounts to raise the engine a little and that did the trick!

          They look great, but...

I bought these headers about a month ago, and AM was quick to ship. I wrapped the headers with titanium exhaust wrap, and they looked beautiful. I installed these headers myself, and it was a real pain. The steering linkage, starter motor, and both motor mounts must be removed, and the engine lifted slightly to allow for clearance. Once they're in place, the bolts are difficult to get to. It took me a solid day to install them (Saturday day afternoon and Sunday morning). Proud of my handiwork, I couldn't wait to get my car to the shop so they could cut and weld the existing off road x-pipe to mate to these headers. $250 and 2 hours later, it was done! They started the car, and I was grinning ear to ear. When I pulled the car off the lift I noticed it...a huge exhaust leak. The mechanics discovered the leak was coming from the rearmost primary on the passenger side. I figured I forgot to tighten a header bolt, so the next morning I was under the car again with the starter removed. I attempted to further tighten the bolt to no avail. It was tight. And then it dawned on me: the flange was bent. Hours wasted and hundreds spent on a subpar product. My only option now will be to remove the header, and have a shop fix the poorly constructed flange. To add insult to injury, I'm now getting horrible gas mileage, as the entire bank is running rich. I am hugely disappointed with this product, and I cannot recommend Mac to anyone.

Fitment was not very good at all, had to shim the engine so they didn't touch the steering shaft and it's still hitting the frame. Save your money and buy a higher quality set of Longtubes

          Way loud

Like the other reviews say, almost all headers will improve on performance and exhaust note. The prochamber, for was a bit too quiet, so I used my old Xpipe and had to customize it to get a perfect fit. Now it ridiculous loud. But only when you get on it. Way better sound at idle too.

          Mac long tubes problems!

Very disappointed in the fit and finish first set the flanges were bent so badly couldn't get them to stop leaking. Second set header rested on frame and on top of lower control arm. As a result I had a terrible vibration through out the car. Thankfully AM was very helpful in resolving my problems by helping me pick a different brand header!

          Awesome old school upgrade

These headers were a breeze to install. They sound great and the performance is noticeable when paired with a tuner and O/R mid pipe. Because of the style of the hearders, my saggy stock motor mounts caused the driverside to hit the steering shaft. After some Polly motor mounts were on, there were no more clearance issues. I would suggest getting the mounts at the same time and installing them while your under there. It is easiet to install them while the stock manifolds are off and before the new long tubes are on.

          MAC Long tubes!

First id like to say these long tubes were a pain to get in my 07 Shelby GT the drivers side header rubbed against the steering column for a while then got the header pipe rubbing against it adjusted. I defiantly got more power than expected and after I paired these with flow master super 10s its defiantly the loudest car in the county (:

          good for the price

good deal compared to all the stainless $1000. ones. easy install if you take the motor mount brackets out, only problem was it jambed into the steering shaft, had to dent the header slightly and shim the motor mount a bit, then it was all good, noticed a little power increase. I would of bought kooks if I had the cash, but these are worth the $$$

          CRAZY LOUD!!

These headers are the best bang for the buck out there. And IMO they are a lot better then those expensive ones. If you are thinking about getting these for your stang, do it and you won't regret it. The sound and finish off the product is outstanding. Even though all my neighbors hate me,I would buy these headers 100x over.

          LOOK's , sounds & feel........

In a nut shell, overall a very strong 4.5 out of 5. Fit's directly with no struggle . They look sexy , yet strong . The sound...." awsome" .... Great rough , raw sound... Starts deep and smooth , as you open up the throttle , you can hear that rough raw tone, almost angry, very aggressive. I have these bad boy's running straight through to a Bassanni X pipe and Bassanni axle back system. Sounds very distinct ,original , haven't herd a Pony with this sound yet . I guess it's the exhaust combo I have on my 06 GT . Very happy , & strongly recommend !!!!

          Mac Longtubes

They look good under the hood... they are one of the few brands with the 1 7/8 primaries ... good bang for the buck ... i had some 255 wide rear tires couldn't hold traction in 1st 2nd and hard chirp in the 3rd... got 275s now much better.. great quality to me.. little bit of a tight fit by driver side steering components.... but all in all good buy!!

Mac lives true to the rumors.

These long tubes (off road) from Mac added about 35 RWHP after the dyno tune on my '10 GT. Previous modifications were; Roush CAI, Ford Racing intake manifold, Ford Racing 62mm throttle body, Ford Racing ported cylinder heads, Ford Racing hot rod camshafts, and Steeda under drive pulleys. Aside from the power gain, these long tubes sound low and throaty. I have the Mac pro chamber off road midpipe and couldn't be happier! I get a lot of compliments and questions on the exhaust set up. The shop owner even had a big grin on his face when he started it up for me when I was picking it up. The only slight negative I have so far is that the driver side header rubs slightly on the steering shaft when making hard right turns. It's not bad, just noticeable through a small vibration in the steering wheel. I think it's more of an issue in space rather than a design flaw. I've heard of MUCH more expensive brands doing the same thing on these cars. I guess something you have to live with if you want this modification. All in all, I'm in love with my car all over again. I wouldn't have done anything differently with it if given the option!

          Sounds angry!

I will start by saying that this isn't something you want to do yourself if you don't have a garage full of tools and a lift. Luckily I had all that and it still took 7 hours. Real tight fit and I had to do a pretty good tear down of the undercarriage to fit them up, but when the job was done all I could do was grin. These headers paired with the prochamber are unbeatable. Sounds aggressive and gives you a very noticeable torque gain. Second gear just got more fun. Would definitely recommend.

          Not worth it.

The fitment was okay, and the quality was what I expected for the price. Not bad but definitely not the best. Sound wise it's just not there. I was looking for a deep low tone so I coupled these headers with the Prochamber and Mac a/b. I have no complaints from the mid pipe back! These headers give off a tin can sound that is worth avoiding them all together. Performance gains are moderate at best, and after this trail and error I just can't see why somebody wouldn't just save up a little more scratch and go with a stainless or ceramic coated header! AM was Awesome as always! I'll be back to perfect my setup.

Installing these Long Tubes and the mid-pipe, you definitely should be feeling the performance gains. We highly recommend getting a custom tune so that you can feel the full potential of these headers. If you have any questions about tunes, please give our Bama Specialists a call!
