  • The MAC Off-Road H-Pipe will in your exhaust with no issues. The O2 sensors will install into this H pipe and you should not see any check engine lights as there is no catalyst monitor on your 1988.

This should have no problem bolting up to BBC headers and flow master mufflers right???

Mustangmaddy

  • Hey Mustang Maddy! This will work with BBK headers as long as they are shorty headers and not midlength or longtubes. But it will definitely fit with the flowmasters!

After removing the old h-pipe and replacing the header studs at the flanges (which broke). I got this in in about an hour or less. The double joint design is easy to work with and allows some adjusting to get the right fit with the catback. The O2 sensor bungs are placed amazingly and have optimal clearance from the frame. The downsides of this product is that it lacks the rubber tube to connect the smog pump to the new pipe which the BBK h-pipe includes. I used heater hose and worm clamps to connect them,(I can't remove the smog pump due to emissions checks each year).

    OK pipe

I installed the product in a couple of hours, and after making sure all connections were tight, I was disappointed to hear hissing exhaust leaks at the middle section connection. I climbed back under the car, and made sure everything was retightened, and it sounded a lot better. 2 days later, and the connections are hissing loudly again, so now I have to spend the money, and find someone with a welder, or pay for it to be welded.

    Great bang for your buck!!

The exhaust is great I have mac shorty headers and the exhaust bolted right up to them. Fairly easy to install with the three piece setup. Overall I'd recommend this to anybody who's looking for a good sounding mid pipe for 5.0 fox.

    GOOD BANG FOR YOUR BUCK

exactly what it is, off road h pipe. Shop said it was a good fit, less restriction. Not sure of the power difference but the sound is much better than with the h pip with duel cats. Always liked MAC products and this one like the rest doesn't change my mind.

    MAC Off-Road H-Pipe for 79-93 Fox Mustang

Always wanted a MAC off-road H-pipe so when redoing my exhaust, it was an easy choice! I was very pleased to see that they have added a second connection to make installation and shipping easier. Having installed 1 piece aftermarket setups previously from companies like BBK, this makes install ALOT easier and can be done on your own but a second set of hands is always welcome. Fit and finish very similar to BBK pipes i've seen in the past. Nice sound as you'd expect. With everyone moving to an X-pipe i'm glad there is still the classic MAC H-pipe still available for that "5.0 burble" we all love!

    MAC H pipe

My friend who installed it had to do some modification to make it work properly. The flanges that bolt it to the rest of the exhaust system had to be modified slightly. The car now sounds like it has a NASCAR engine when it revs above 3000 rpms, I has a cool sound now. Overall I am satisfied with the product.

    Fits and Sounds Great

The three piece exhaust is easier to fit than the one piece mid-pipe because it allows for some adjustability. Includes new hardware for the muffler connection side but not the header side. Fit well with my BBK equal length shorties. Only problem you may run into during install is rusty hardware, so keep the WD-40 at hand. Sounds much deeper and the pipes are thicker than the stock H-pipe. The air tube is in a different location than stock but if you are no longer using the smog pump this will not be a problem.

    Mac H pipe review

Bought this h pipe due to price, also talked with a rep at American Muscle who recommended this 3 piece design due to tone of exhaust and ease of installation. Removal of OE H pipe and installation of mac h pipe took less than 2 hour with jack stands in my drive way. Did have to grind the flange bolt openings on 2 of the brackets to get proper fitment, but other than that every thing went together perfectly. Sound of my exhaust is about 30 - 40 percent louder than with stock H pipe with converters. Absolutely love the new sound. It is paired with Flowmaster mufflers welded onto my stock tailpipes. My car is a stock 1989 mustang convertible with 22000 original miles. The only other mod I have done is upgraded to 3.73 gears, great seat of your pants upgrade. I did buy my gears at Late model restoration, and then found American muscle offers a better gear package with more of the bearings needed for the same price. buy the way shipping of my mac H pipe was very fast, only took 2 days form order, to my front door. Thanks American Muscle you now have a life time customer.

I'm very pleased with my Mac h pipes. My mustang has never sounded so pure and ready to roar. It has a deep tone and a polished finish the complements my unde. rcarriage painting. I would recommend this for any one with an 85-86 mustang gt.
