    Review & Install Video

Justin here from, breaking down Magnaflow’s Competition Series Cat-Back exhaust for the 2011 and newer V6 Mustang. This is probably one of the most aggressive kits available for the 3.7L V6, thanks in part to that 2.5” mandrel bent piping, straight through those competition series mufflers, and out the dual 4” polished tips. Now that straight through design is going to totally eliminate a lot of back pressure, making for big power gains, especially in the upper RPM range. Despite that gain in power, you can expect an extremely aggressive exhaust note, so for someone who’s trying to stay under the radar, this might not be the kit for you. The entire kit features 100% stainless steel construction, all the way down to those dual 4” polished tips. You can expect to have everything installed in about two hour’s time. Now let’s hear how Magnaflow’s Competition Series Cat-Back sounds compared to your factory exhaust.

Add Power. Get your 2011-2012 V6 the respect it deserves at the track and strip with a Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back. This free-flowing system will deliver the race-winning horsepower and torque gains you need with the impressive sound you want.

Aggressive Musclecar Sound. Give your 2011-2012 Mustang V6 a deep, aggressive rumble that will make lesser cars clear a path at lights with a Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back. This premium quality exhaust features free-flowing, straight-through Competition mufflers that increase power and give your V6 an unmistakable musclecar sound.

Magnaflow Quality. This premium quality catback is constructed from free-flowing, mandrel-bent 2.5" stainless for superior performance and durability. Finished with dual 4" polished tips, this system looks as good as it performs.

Application. Made to be a direct bolt on, this catback will bolt straight up to the factory hybrid H-Pipe without any extra modifications required on the 2011-2012 V6 Mustang to give it a deeper, more aggressive sound and improved performance.

Note: Coupon codes cannot be applied to this product.

Note. Stock 2011 V6 Mustangs come stock with a Mid Pipe that resembles both the H-Pipe and X-Pipe designs. This hybrid Mid Pipe was created by Ford to help add additional power and sound to the V6 straight out of the factory.

Ive had these exhaust installed for about a month and for some reason theres this weird almost buzzing like grinding noise only at 1,500 rpms. It can get really annoying and loud sometimes. It happens after ive been driving for about 5 minutes and it will only happen when i accelerate past 1,500 rpms and then at 2,000 rpms goes away. I checked under my car and there is no metal grinding i have no clue what it is. do you have ang ideas what that could be? Is it the exhaust settling in? Will it go away?

        • We will need more info about the noise you are hearing, possibly from the Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back Exhaust you have installed. Please feel free to give us a call or send us a email so we can help you with your question.

How much power is added with these bad boys?

        • The Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back Exhaust gives you about 10-15 hp and 10-15 torque plus 1-2 miles per gallon. You will also notice a difference in the sound produced by your V6 Mustang.

Will this fit a 2010 V6 Mustang if I had a local exhaust shop put it on for me?

        • Since this only has fitment for a 2011 & 2012 V6 Mustang, it will take custom fabrication for this to be correctly used since the 2010 V6's came with a factory Y-pipe.

Are these louder than the axle-back race series? Based off the video the magnaflow axle-back seems much louder and deeper.

        • The Magnaflow Race Series Axle-Back Exhaust (11-14 V6) will actually be louder than the Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back Exhaust (11-12 V6) because the Competition is a muffler'd exhaust and the Race is a muffler delete.

Can I get this exhaust system custom made to have the muffler deleted?

        • With custom fabrication done by an exhaust shop, you would be able to delete the mufflers.

This added the missing link to my V6!

Easy install, great sound! The sound of a V8, at V6 gas mileage. The pipes over the axel hit and require modifications unfortunately.

Fisrt off, I paired this with magnaflows race muffler. The car sounds amazing! Better than I could have ever imagined. I'm also running long tubes and a o/r X pipe. There is drone in certain RPM ranges but not an issue for me! I did need to bend the hangers to center everything up but this could have been due to my "custom" set up. Overall, super happy!

            Great exhaust, bad fit

Didnt have a lift so just jacked it up and loosened the rear axle to slip the old pipes off and the new ones on. Panhand support bar couldnt fit back on and the brackets had to be placed back on upside down to fit(or backwards, dont remember). Other than that great exhaust. Sounds simply amazing. I'm running off bbk shorty headers and stock mid pipe so i still have my cats and resonators. The drone is very tolerable and does not bother me since the radio is usually on and my windows are normally rolled down. May switch to a different mid pipe to make it a lil louder but for now it sounds amazing, love it.

Fits great. Sound is definetly powerful. Love the new upgrade. The clamps from the x to the pipes cannot be the factory ones. Had. To take car to muffler shop to finish the install.

            Nice exhaust system

This exhaust system paired with bbk tuned headers has really deep sound a lot of bass around 1000 rpms. Half throttle to full throttle you really hear them cams working sounds good. Quality of material is very good.

            Bass boost !

Removing the old exhaust is easy with some tall (slightly questionable) jack stands and an electric saw! Once out the weight difference is considerable, I got worn out taking the stock mufflers to the dumpster! Putting on the new mufflers and pipes required a little bit of finangling to get in but they fit! The only issue I had was with the tips touching the rear valence. I'll probably have a shop adjust it a little bit but other than that it's got a beautiful sound! 1000-2500 is nice and deep for cruising and I'm case you forget 2600 reminds you you're in America's favorite pony car!

            Son's reaction... awesome!

So it took about 2-1/2 hours for me to install... I did it while car was on jack stands in the garage, with the help of two teens, after cervical discectomy and fusion surgery three weeks before... so I had to take a few breaks. :) Over all I had more problem getting the old exhaust off then getting the new exhaust on. And my son's reaction to his first start... priceless! One happy 18yo who was was so appreciative afterwards, he thanked me twenty times.

Install was a quick and easy, fits great. Sound is deep and never raspy at any rpm. Exactly what I was looking for. Bit pricey but you will enjoy every second of it. Must have!

            Fit could be better

i just put this n my 2011 red candy mustang, and it is a night an day difference in the exhaust note compared to stock. on the down side, install was not as easy as expected. i had to get the right side modified at a shop for a good fit, otherwise the tip was rubbing up on the frame and valence. make sure you have some really high jack stands or a lift.

            Magnaflow Competition Catback Exhaust

Good system and materials (can't go wrong w/SS) however performance gains will certainly vary depending on your setup. Unfortunately I live in CA where smog regulation ruins everything, so really these are only going to change the tone more than anything. It took my local muffler shop about an hour to bolt these up. The only tweaking they had to do was adjust the length on one side, because it was coming up short. They also had to bend the rear hangers because the tips were touching the diffuser. All pretty standard stuff and expected. The sound is great when you get on the throttle and purrs nicely at freeway speed (65mph). My coworkers heard me rev the engine my first day back at work after the install and were full of compliments and curiosity. I still think it sounds like a Subaru, but that's a V6 for ya. Videos on Youtube as well as here on AM are pretty accurate as far as tone.

You will hear the difference!! 1st off let me say that this is no doubt a 2 man job. After thinking I could get it done I ended up taking it to a shop. With tax about $120 - not too bad for Jersey prices. The alignment took a little time to get them to hang evenly and once they were aligned properly there is a noticable difference in what is exposed regarding the L/R chrome tips. Driver side sticks out perfect and passenger side is more flush. Besides that there is really nothing I can complain about. The sound is truly a HUGE difference and instantly you can see everyone turning there heads. I couldn't be more pleased in the sound - nice deep tone and screams when you get on it. I set the cruise at 80MPH and you couldn't hear a drone....crank up the rpms a bit and you will get a drone. But everyone complaining about a drone should stick to their stock exhaust so they can ride in peace. I mean if your considering this system you are buying it for one purpose...TO BE LOUD!!! The sound is just something you need to hear for yourself, no video is going to do it justice. One last feel a huge difference in torque and they weigh 1/2 if not a 1/3 of what the stock exhaust was. Rating: LOUD and Awesome!

            HOLY COW!!!!!

WHAT!!!!!!!! is what i yelled when i first fired my car up. this is louder than my 13 GT now!!! great exhaust note and burble at idle and crackle when you let off. this is bad to the bone!!! i am so pleased with this exhaust. don't think about axle backs or other cat backs. put this in your shopping cart and buy it!!!!! i like the drone, but that's just because i want a race car.

            Awesome! But...

First off, this exhaust is awesome! i personally think it sounds better than the Borla ATAK for about half the price. This exhaust is very loud, but not annoying. The fit could have been a bit better, i had my shop guys melt the hangers to center it but took an extra 10min. Got it installed for $95 and when they started it up for the first time, everyone at the shop looked up from what they were doing. Doesn't sound like a V8 but it's as close as you're gonna get with a cat-back. THERE IS a very noticeable drone from ABOUT 2000-2900 rpm but i personally like it. Not raspy at all, very deep though all rpms and sounds fantastic at WOT. if you life in an area where the police are hard a**es (California) when it comes to loudness, try to stay away from this. But if you do buy this you will not be disappointed. Just because it is half the price of Borla does not make it half as good. Looks great too! the polished tips stick out just a bit farther than stock and just look mean! There is a noticeable performance gain. not so much with hp (while there is some of that too), but more so with the decrease in weight. Last thing, if you live in an area with hills, it is quite loud while climbing. Over all, even with drone and slight fitment issues, i would highly recommend this!

            Great Loud Exhaust!!!!

I don't know why some people are complaining of drone or this system being loud. It says its the loud, aggressive version and it sounds awesome!!!! It's not raspy either which is why I chose this one and it really changes the tone of the car allowing it to flew its muscle. If you want to be heard and don't mind a loud exhaust version this is the one for you!! The review score doesn't do it justice...this system also fits perfect not sure what the other reviewer is saying and it does cut a good amount of weight out as well.
