Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at Magnaflow’s Magnapack Cat-Back exhaust fitting the 05-09 Mustang GT, and GT 500. The Magnapack gets its name from these two Bullitt style mufflers which are a throwback to the classic glass packs of the 60’s and 70’s hot rod era, and the sound you get is going to reflect that and you’ll definitely hear that classic muscle car rumble. The entire system features full stainless construction including the 2.5” mandrel bent tubing, the straight through design Magnapack mufflers, and finally the large 4” brightly polished tips. Getting this catback installed isn’t really that big of a job and should take you roughly two hours from start to finish using basic hand tools. Now let’s hear how the Magnaflow Magnapack Cat-Back sounds compared to your factory exhaust.

I have had this setup for over a year as it came with the 07 GT, so I cant compare with stock. Although, when I first saw the car, it did sound awesome so I knew it wasnt stock. Very good sound, rumble is between 1500-1900 with 3.31 gears on highway in 5th gear. The rumble is nice, but not too loud at all. Cold start rumbles the garage, but isn't as loud as i would like but sounds nice. Finish is nice, but most only see the tips which shine up fairly easy. Going to add a magnaflow hi flow cats and H pipe for more sound. Of note, if you want to change the axle backs for sound, the angles are different on the Magnaflow over stock. This requires welding and cutting to fit of different axle backs. Fitment on the stock hangars seems fine. Recommend.Helpful (7)

Absolutely in love with the sound. Very nice and aggressive when you want it to be, and start up won't wake your neighbors.Helpful (8)

After talking with an American Muscle rep, I decided to get the Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back. I'm overall pleased with the sound of the system. There is a deep hum at about 1900 rpms, but that seems to be the case with many of the systems (read other reviews), thus it would appear to be a product of the car output. Car is not too loud, but you definitely notice a difference from stock.Helpful (8)

Fit and finish is awsum. This is the 2nd exhaust I've put on the car and 2nd set of mufflers the last mufflers were flowmaster outlaw series axle back mufflers so I do miss the sound of the flowmaster I do like the magnaflow it sounds more like my stock exhaust if I could afford the flowaster mufflers. But the fit and finish is what u expect from magnaflow if it's good enough for Chip. Foose it's good enough for my 2006 GT.Helpful (10)

I bought this Maganaflow Competition Catback Exhaust because I wanted more Air Flow for my 2008 CS/GT Mustang. I also added this w/a Pypes X-Pipe, JLT Air Intake, and Tune. Man did this make a difference. It has a nice Deep Rumble Sound. Everything is bolt on so it was quite straight forward and easy to install. I would recommend buying one.Helpful (10)

My 2007 gt, which i bought used, was equipped with the magnaflow catback exhaust, part 15881. The sound and quality were good but i desired a deeper exhaust note. Today, i just had magnaflow magnapac catback, parts 15883 installed. If you are on the fence on what magnaflow catback to buy, stop debating and get the magnapacs! Deep tone and with my automatic no drone. Deep growl of quality!Helpful (10)

Not too loud!
I have owned a few performance cars and like my exhaust really loud! This exhaust didn't really get very loud but does have a nice exhaust note. It does just like they advertise. Nice old school rumble but not too loud and no drone. The fitment was great. Had this installed in under an hour! If your looking for extremely loud get the Pypes or Roush cat-back. If you don't want to be too loud this is the exhaust to get.Helpful (10)

I had a similar exhaust on my 2001 GT and I loved it. I decided to get the same exhaust on my 2007 GT. I like that it has a different tone than most stangs with Flowmasters. The tone is more aggressive than any other exhaust I have heard on a stang. I would definitely suggest this exhaust.Helpful (7)

Glad I bought when I did
The price has gone up quite a bit since I bought these. The only problem I have is I get a little droning with them going up hills. Changing a couple of your tune parameters can offset that if you choose. Around town this is an awesome sounding old muscle car exhaust. Love the sound around 3k rpms.Helpful (8)

Great fit/finish, Not so great sound
The fit & finish of the Magnaflow Magnapack exhaust system is pretty much perfect. The only real complaint I have about the system is it's kinda quiet for me, I have a stock exhaust system and when I added the Magnaflow catback system it wasn't a real big difference. I was expecting much more rumble in the jungle, it is a very clean and smooth sound but the volume is a little to mellow (not far from stock). I'm sure once I put headers and a off road H it's going to be like the night and day though . . .Helpful (8)
You mentioned these are illegal in Illinois, why? Also if I paired this with a pypes x pipe from cat back, would I still pass emissions?
As the representative advised, this is due to the law they referenced (625 ILCS 5/12-602). Reading: Sec. 12-602. Mufflers, prevention of noise. Every motor vehicle driven or operated upon the highways of this State shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler or exhaust system in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise. No such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass or similar device. No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and such original muffler shall comply with all the requirements of this Section.
Are these legal to have in the state of Illinois?
These are illegal in the state of Illinois under (625 ILCS 5/12-602).
Will this work with the MAC H-pipe for a V6 dual exhaust conversion? I have an 07 V6 premium with the pony package and am looking to add duals in my car. I really love the magnaflows and am hoping they can capture that deep, classic, throaty exhaust sound of classic muscle cars. I would like to pull the factory Y-pipe and add a MAC H-pipe, keep the stock cats and then add this on for the true dual exhaust.
Yes, the MAC Cut & Clamp Pro Chamber Mid-pipe (05-10 V6) can be installed on your 07 V6 along with this Magnaflow Magnapack Catback. It would reuse your stock cats and would be a great combination. Hope this helps!
do i need a x-pipe or h-pipe with this product. do i need a tuner when installing? the car has a 5speed manual.
No you don't need either when installing this catback. This Maganflow Magnapack will bolt straight up to the factory mid-pipe without any modifications. That being said, if you were to upgrade your stock mid-pipe with an h-pipe or x-pipe, you would increase your total gains. Installing this catback with the stock mid-pipe does not require a new tune. Hope this helps!
Curious Im going to be getting an 05-09 GT soon and I've been looking on your site for a long time now and been trying to piece together the best exhaust. My question is, can this combo work with this Magnaflow Magnapack Catback? ---> BBK Ceramic Long Tube Headers & BBK Shorty Catted X-Pipe. Thank You
You shouldn't run into any issues bolting up the BBK shorty x-pipe with this Magnaflow Catback or any other brand catback. The main concern when doing an exhaust upgrade with long tubes is to stick with the same manufacturer. So if you are doing the BBK Long Tubes, you will definitely want to stick with the BBK Shorty mid-pipe, which will ensure the best fitment! From the mid-pipe back, you can pretty much pick and choose whichever catback best suits your style! If you want any tips or advice on different set ups, give us a call! We'd be more than happy help you out!
