    Review & Install Video

Hey I’m Justin with, and I’m taking a closer look at Magnaflow’s Magnapack Cat-Back exhaust fitting the 05-09 Mustang GT, and GT 500. The Magnapack gets its name from these two Bullitt style mufflers which are a throwback to the classic glass packs of the 60’s and 70’s hot rod era, and the sound you get is going to reflect that and you’ll definitely hear that classic muscle car rumble. The entire system features full stainless construction including the 2.5” mandrel bent tubing, the straight through design Magnapack mufflers, and finally the large 4” brightly polished tips. Getting this catback installed isn’t really that big of a job and should take you roughly two hours from start to finish using basic hand tools. Now let’s hear how the Magnaflow Magnapack Cat-Back sounds compared to your factory exhaust.

Free Flowing Exhaust. Magnaflow delivers the ultimate free flowing exhaust for the 2005-2009 GT, Bullitt and GT500 Mustangs with this Competition Cat-Back Exhaust. By eliminating power robbing restrictions, more horsepower and torque is produced where it belongs - at the rear wheels.

Aggressive Muscle Car Sound. The Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back Exhaust System features a set of straight-through bullet-style competition mufflers to give your Mustang that loud, aggressive exhaust note of muscle cars of yesteryear.

Quality Magnaflow Construction. Each piece of the Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back System is constructed from 2.5" mandrel bent stainless steel tubing for long life and a perfect fit. The system features (2) competition straight-through mufflers as well as (2) brightly polished 4" stainless steel tips that exit from the stock location for impressive good looks.

Application. Made as a direct bolt on, this Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back Exhaust System will bolt straight up to the factory 2.5" Mid Pipe without any modifications required on the 2005 to 2009 GT, Bullitt and Shelby GT500 Mustangs to give it a deep aggressive sound.

Technical Note: Americanmuscle recommends adding the 2005+ Mustang 304 Stainless Steel Exhaust Hanger Kit from the drop down option above, to provide more strength, stability and a cleaner installed appearance. If you have a 2007 Mustang you may need the kit for correct installation.

You mentioned these are illegal in Illinois, why? Also if I paired this with a pypes x pipe from cat back, would I still pass emissions?

        • As the representative advised, this is due to the law they referenced (625 ILCS 5/12-602). Reading: Sec. 12-602. Mufflers, prevention of noise.     Every motor vehicle driven or operated upon the highways of this State shall at all times be equipped with an adequate muffler or exhaust system in constant operation and properly maintained to prevent any excessive or unusual noise. No such muffler or exhaust system shall be equipped with a cutout, bypass or similar device. No person shall modify the exhaust system of a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise of such vehicle above that emitted by the muffler originally installed on the vehicle, and such original muffler shall comply with all the requirements of this Section.

Will this work with the MAC H-pipe for a V6 dual exhaust conversion? I have an 07 V6 premium with the pony package and am looking to add duals in my car. I really love the magnaflows and am hoping they can capture that deep, classic, throaty exhaust sound of classic muscle cars. I would like to pull the factory Y-pipe and add a MAC H-pipe, keep the stock cats and then add this on for the true dual exhaust.

        • Yes, the MAC Cut & Clamp Pro Chamber Mid-pipe (05-10 V6) can be installed on your 07 V6 along with this Magnaflow Magnapack Catback. It would reuse your stock cats and would be a great combination. Hope this helps!

do i need a x-pipe or h-pipe with this product. do i need a tuner when installing? the car has a 5speed manual.

        • No you don't need either when installing this catback. This Maganflow Magnapack will bolt straight up to the factory mid-pipe without any modifications. That being said, if you were to upgrade your stock mid-pipe with an h-pipe or x-pipe, you would increase your total gains. Installing this catback with the stock mid-pipe does not require a new tune. Hope this helps!

Curious Im going to be getting an 05-09 GT soon and I've been looking on your site for a long time now and been trying to piece together the best exhaust. My question is, can this combo work with this Magnaflow Magnapack Catback? ---> BBK Ceramic Long Tube Headers & BBK Shorty Catted X-Pipe. Thank You

        • You shouldn't run into any issues bolting up the BBK shorty x-pipe with this Magnaflow Catback or any other brand catback. The main concern when doing an exhaust upgrade with long tubes is to stick with the same manufacturer. So if you are doing the BBK Long Tubes, you will definitely want to stick with the BBK Shorty mid-pipe, which will ensure the best fitment! From the mid-pipe back, you can pretty much pick and choose whichever catback best suits your style! If you want any tips or advice on different set ups, give us a call! We'd be more than happy help you out!

            Magnaflow rumble

I have had this setup for over a year as it came with the 07 GT, so I cant compare with stock. Although, when I first saw the car, it did sound awesome so I knew it wasnt stock. Very good sound, rumble is between 1500-1900 with 3.31 gears on highway in 5th gear. The rumble is nice, but not too loud at all. Cold start rumbles the garage, but isn't as loud as i would like but sounds nice. Finish is nice, but most only see the tips which shine up fairly easy. Going to add a magnaflow hi flow cats and H pipe for more sound. Of note, if you want to change the axle backs for sound, the angles are different on the Magnaflow over stock. This requires welding and cutting to fit of different axle backs. Fitment on the stock hangars seems fine. Recommend.

Absolutely in love with the sound. Very nice and aggressive when you want it to be, and start up won't wake your neighbors.

            Nice sound

After talking with an American Muscle rep, I decided to get the Magnaflow Competition Cat-Back. I'm overall pleased with the sound of the system. There is a deep hum at about 1900 rpms, but that seems to be the case with many of the systems (read other reviews), thus it would appear to be a product of the car output. Car is not too loud, but you definitely notice a difference from stock.

            Magnaflow exhaust

Fit and finish is awsum. This is the 2nd exhaust I've put on the car and 2nd set of mufflers the last mufflers were flowmaster outlaw series axle back mufflers so I do miss the sound of the flowmaster I do like the magnaflow it sounds more like my stock exhaust if I could afford the flowaster mufflers. But the fit and finish is what u expect from magnaflow if it's good enough for Chip. Foose it's good enough for my 2006 GT.

            Awesome Sound

I bought this Maganaflow Competition Catback Exhaust because I wanted more Air Flow for my 2008 CS/GT Mustang. I also added this w/a Pypes X-Pipe, JLT Air Intake, and Tune. Man did this make a difference. It has a nice Deep Rumble Sound. Everything is bolt on so it was quite straight forward and easy to install. I would recommend buying one.

            GREAT EXHAUST!

My 2007 gt, which i bought used, was equipped with the magnaflow catback exhaust, part 15881. The sound and quality were good but i desired a deeper exhaust note. Today, i just had magnaflow magnapac catback, parts 15883 installed. If you are on the fence on what magnaflow catback to buy, stop debating and get the magnapacs! Deep tone and with my automatic no drone. Deep growl of quality!

            Not too loud!

I have owned a few performance cars and like my exhaust really loud! This exhaust didn't really get very loud but does have a nice exhaust note. It does just like they advertise. Nice old school rumble but not too loud and no drone. The fitment was great. Had this installed in under an hour! If your looking for extremely loud get the Pypes or Roush cat-back. If you don't want to be too loud this is the exhaust to get.

            Love it

I had a similar exhaust on my 2001 GT and I loved it. I decided to get the same exhaust on my 2007 GT. I like that it has a different tone than most stangs with Flowmasters. The tone is more aggressive than any other exhaust I have heard on a stang. I would definitely suggest this exhaust.

Glad I bought when I did

The price has gone up quite a bit since I bought these. The only problem I have is I get a little droning with them going up hills. Changing a couple of your tune parameters can offset that if you choose. Around town this is an awesome sounding old muscle car exhaust. Love the sound around 3k rpms.

Great fit/finish, Not so great sound

The fit & finish of the Magnaflow Magnapack exhaust system is pretty much perfect. The only real complaint I have about the system is it's kinda quiet for me, I have a stock exhaust system and when I added the Magnaflow catback system it wasn't a real big difference. I was expecting much more rumble in the jungle, it is a very clean and smooth sound but the volume is a little to mellow (not far from stock). I'm sure once I put headers and a off road H it's going to be like the night and day though . . .

            • Response from AmericanMuscle

We're currently working on getting some high quality sound clip videos shot for all of our exhausts on our own cars here at AmericanMuscle to help with things like this. I think you're definitely right though, as soon as you swap the mid pipe, it will wake the car up for sure. If you're still not satisfied with the exhaust note, give us a call and we'll do our best to hook you up with something you're happy with!

            magnaflow magnapack

This cat back sounds very very good. everything on my car is stock(For now) except this system. Its loud when you hit the peddle and subtle when idling. has some drone at 2k rpms, hoping it will go away after i break them in, but doesnt sound that bad honestly. Good buy. Installation was some what hard to line up but wasnt impossible to do. I welded them on and love them

            Awesome Sound

I had this installed on my V6 with the help of Magnaflow Cut and Clamp X-pipe. Gotta say this makes the GT's around me sound like nothing. Its always funny going down the road and beating them with my V6. Its an indefinite head turner. Only thing I dont like about it is that it hums at a really high pitch around 2600rmps and gives me a head ache sometimes. Although its definatly worth it.

            Pure Amazing

This Exhaust Is Just Amazing. Not So Loud That It Kills You, But It Is There And Sounds Nice, Crisp, Healthy, Deep, Toned, And Awesome. I Would Recommend This To Every And Anyone. Only Problem I Had Was With The Install. You Can Not, I Repeat, CAN NOT! Install This With Out Putting Your Mustang On A Lift. There Is A Picture Of The Rear End Of My Mustang Jacked Up About 3 Feet Off The Ground, And My Dad And I Still Could Not Come Anywhere Close To Getting It Over The Axle. We Took It To A Friends Tire Shop, Put It On A Lift, And Installed In 22 Minutes. :))) You Have To Either Cut The Cat Back In To 2 Pieces Then Weld Them Together Once You Get Them Over The Axle (I HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS!) Or Manage To have a Good 4-5 Feet Under The Center Of Your Car. Easy Install. Looks Great. Sounds Perfect. Drone Is There On A Cold Start, But Once Warm It Is Minimal. If You Don't Mind The Radio 1 Turn Louder, You Won't Mind The Drone At All. Best Exhaust IMO. Thanks AM!

            Awesome sound. Awesome quality.

Paired this with Magnaflow catted x pipe. It's loud and sounds great. My car sounds deep and muscley at lower rpms, but in the high range it sounds like a race car. Would recommend to anyone looking for a sound and performance upgrade.

Bought this with the catted x-pipe and the BBK throttle body. The install took about 2 hrs. WOW what a difference this combination makes!!!! This exhaust is so much better than the stock. Not real loud at idle but if you get on it, it really sounds great.
