Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, Alex from americanmuscle.com, and today I'm bringing you my detailed review and breakdown of the Magnaflow MF Series Cat-Back Exhaust in a single side exit configuration, for the year 2015 through current five-liter F-150. So in this video, I'm gonna talk about who this kit's gonna appeal to, the sound and tone that you're gonna be getting, the materials and construction that went into this kit, what you'd expect to be spending, and then we're gonna take a very quick look at the installation. We're gonna be looking at a solid one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and about one to two hours to get this under your truck, which we'll talk about a little bit later. All right, so the Magnaflow MF Series Cat-Back that I have today is gonna appeal to the F-150 owner that's looking to get a nice bump in terms of sound as well as tone out of their F-150, but not something that's gonna make you hate driving your truck inside the cabin. So right off the bat, I want to call out that this is going to exit exactly where your factory system is gonna shoot out, and if that's not the look that you're after, we've got a slew of different options on the website, and that can range from either a dual directly on the back, a split side, something that's gonna dump right by your tire. But at the end of the day, it's really to come down to how you want to personalize your truck, as the sound is gonna be a little part of the equation here, as well as how it's gonna exit. Now, with the Magnaflow Series that I have here today, the MF muffler is gonna be consistent throughout their entire line. So depending on where you want this to exit, the sound is gonna be the same, but I do want to make sure you guys know that, depending on where you're gonna have this be exiting, be it on the side, straight up the back, it is going to fluctuate in price. So as far as the sound and tone goes here, as you heard in the beginning of the video, this system is definitely gonna wake up the five-liter F-150 really nicely, and it's gonna give it a nice, deep, bassy, and thick tone. It's not gonna be something on the higher pitch side like Flowmaster might give off. This is gonna be definitely on the livable side, and it's not gonna give you any drone inside of the cabin. I do want to mention that, even inside of the cabin, you're not really gonna hear this too much when you're off the gas, but if you dip into the peddle you're definitely gonna know it's there. Now, again, this system is definitely not gonna be the loudest one out there by any stretch, and if you're gonna be looking for something a little bit more on the rowdy side, I might suggest checking out something that's gonna have a little more of muffler-delete system or maybe even like a Corsa if you're looking to wake the dead, as this is gonna be a modest to a minimal bump over stock that's not gonna wake the neighbors. Now, I'm likely gonna disagree with Justin here on this system in terms of the "wake the neighbors" scale, and I'm gonna give this a two out of five on the loud meter, only because I really think it's a minimal bump over stock. You're gonna be getting a very thick and beefy sound. It's gonna sound fantastic on cold start, but once it comes up to temperature, it's definitely gonna be a little bit on the quieter side. Now, this is gonna be fantastic for the owners out there that are either looking to get into a little bit of a system that's gonna be a touch louder but something that you don't want to have your family and friends have a little bit on the annoying side when you're driving or doing some long hauls. So in terms of the construction and materials here, this is gonna have Magnaflow's legendary build quality, and it's definitely evident right here on the table. I mean, everything from just the welds on the mufflers themselves, down to the tip, it's really perfect craftsmanship, and I think it's gonna add a ton of flare on the sides of your truck. Now, again, I do want to call out, if you're not gonna be looking for a factory style exit, we've got a ton of other options on site which, again, can range from straight out the back, a split exit, or a dual same side exit. But again, it's gonna come down to how you want this to look on your truck. If you're gonna be looking to stick with this series, the sound and tone is gonna be consistent throughout, but it's really gonna depend on how you want this to exit off of your truck. So looking closer, we're gonna see that Magnaflow is gonna be utilizing a 409 stainless steel throughout this entire system. I do want to mention that it's gonna be inferior than a 304, but most, if not all, car manufacturers do have a fair amount of 409 underneath their cars, and it's a quality material if you're gonna be looking for a system that's gonna last a lifetime. Additionally, we're gonna see that the tip is gonna be a three and a half inch polished, which is gonna feature a Magnaflow logo right on top which, in my opinion, definitely looks pretty sharp. So in terms of the pricing here, guys, the Magnaflow option that I have here today is not gonna be the most inexpensive option out there, and you should expect to be shelling out about 900 bucks for this system. Again, it's gonna be a little bit on the higher side, but if you're gonna run this in comparison to some of the other styles out there, you're gonna see that this is definitely gonna fall in line with most, if not all, systems. Now, again, I do want to call out that depending on where you want this system to exit, it's really gonna fluctuate in terms of the pricing as if you're gonna have it shooting out the back or the sides, it is gonna go up slightly. But at the end of the day, you're gonna be picking up a really nice bump in tone and sound, something that's gonna wake up the truck really nicely, but something for the owner that doesn't want to wake the neighbors, as well as having your family or friends be a little bit on the irritated side if you're gonna be doing a long haul drive. So just to wrap up the pricing here, if you're thinking the 900 bucks is gonna be a little bit too on the steep side, and you're looking to stick with an OE style exit like the kit that I have here today, I might suggest checking out an MBRP system which might be a little bit half the price, but the quality of materials and craftsmanship might suffer slightly, as it's not gonna have Magnaflow's legendary build quality, as well as sound. All right, so switching gears to the installation portion of the video, just like I had said in the beginning, you're gonna be looking at a solid one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter, and about one to two hours to get this under your truck before you're making some noise. So I do want to call out, this is gonna be a very brief glance at what's gonna be entailed to get this onto your truck, but this is gonna be a very simple five or six-step installation, and most, if not all the time that you're gonna be putting in under your truck is honestly gonna be removing your factory system. Now the easy installation here is definitely gonna be a huge selling point for me, or any brand new truck owner, as this is gonna be a true bolt-on installation, which essentially means for you that you're not gonna have to do any type of cutting, welding, or modification. Some things I'd make sure to have on hand is essentially just gonna be a socket set and maybe a pry bar just to remove some of your hangers. But at the end of the day, a very solid and easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and about one or two hours to get this onto your truck, and any novice wrencher should have no trouble getting this on in a heartbeat. All right, so just to wrap things up here, some final thought, I definitely like this option from Magnaflow, not only based on the fact that I've had a few of their systems on my cars in the past, but for the fact that you're gonna have their legendary craftsmanship, as well as a very thick, rich, and mellow tone, something that's not gonna make you hate driving your truck on a three-hour haul, or that's gonna wake your neighbors on cold start, either in the morning or a little bit later at night. So that's my quick review and breakdown for the Magnaflow MF Series Cat-Back in a single side exit configuration, fitting year 2015 through current five-liter F-150, available right here at americanmuscle.com.

Not Quite, Not Loud, Just Right

This exhaust is right in the middle for me on the loudness scale. No drone, great rumble at idle, deep tone at low rpm's, but quite at crusing speeds. The perfect compromise for hauling around kids but still having some noise. Install is straight forward and can easily be done in the garage or even drive way. Looks better than stock but doesn't stick out as being aftermarket.
