      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. I'm Justin with americanmuscle.com. And hey, if you're looking for one of the most street-friendly clutches on the site to hold upwards of 800 horsepower, well, then you have to check out the McLeod RST available for your '08 to '10 Challenger along with your 2013 and newer Challenger right here at americanmuscle.com. Now, this particular option does include the twin organic disc RST clutch, which, by the way, is designed to work with your factory flywheel, eliminating the need to buy any extra parts at this time. Now, in the wide world of aftermarket clutches, McLeod is no doubt gonna be one of your premium options that you're gonna find here on the site as they do offer a wide variety of clutches for stock rides all the way down to your 1,000-plus horsepower monster build. So with that in mind, let's talk a little bit more about who the RST might be appealing to. So again, the RST is no doubt one of the big boys here from McLeod. It is the twin disc capable of holding upwards of 800 horsepower. Now, even though that is very impressive, this is actually still a step or two below the RXT and the RXT 1200, both of which McLeod does recommend more for competition use, not so much here with the RST. Now, that's not to say that the RST is a slouch in any way. In fact, I've actually used this same exact clutch on my Supercharged Mustang, and I can attest it is built to handle some abuse and handled the power perfectly fine in my 700-plus wheel ride while still offering a fantastic pedal feel. So with all that being said, the RST, I wouldn't think is gonna be for someone looking to stay stock or may be satisfied with like a cold air intake, but instead rather someone who is already making big power or plans on making big power through things like forced induction or nitrous. Now, if you didn't know, the beauty of a twin disc clutch is that most of the time you're gonna get unparalleled holding capabilities thanks to the increased surface area of not one but two friction discs. Now, at the same time, you're getting all that power-holding capability with a pedal feel that's gonna be very enjoyable, almost close to stock, and basically something that's not going to kill your leg in heavy traffic. Now, the only downside or downsides to a twin disc clutch, sometimes it can be a little noisy but mainly is the cost, right? They're not exactly cheap and, well, you are paying for what you get here though as it is one of the better clutches available in my opinion on the site. Now, also helping you to save some money, at least in this case, guys, is the fact that this clutch is designed to work with the factory flywheel thanks to the inclusion of the unique adapter ring back here that does allow for this usage with a factory flywheel. Now, that's a nice part because, again, it's kind of a rarity in the category with the twin discs. Typically, they're going to require an additional aluminum billet, chromoly flywheel, something like that, but it also is gonna help you save a few bucks as well because it's gonna prevent you from having to buy another part that's gonna cost you at least a few hundred bucks more. Not the case, again, this particular clutch, guys, just so you're aware, are gonna be for the challenger owners out there looking to stick with that stock flywheel. Now, getting further into the specifics here with the RST, again, you will find those twin discs both comprised of the twin organic friction disc material. Those discs are separated by what is called a floater plate, and then you have your bright-red pressure plate on the top here. Guys, this is a 26-spline unit, just keep that in mind. Again, fitting those designated Challengers out there. And then on the back, the adapter plate, which we've already covered here in the previous block. Now, I love the organic material here with the RST for a manual transmission because obviously it's still gonna offer a lot of holding power, right? Upwards of 800 horsepower, still gonna be extremely streetable, but at the same time, the organic disc material is not gonna offer as aggressive as an engagement in the excess noise of those metallic discs, which are found in McLeod's RXT or that RXT 1200, which has been known to be a little bit rough on the transmission. So again, if you're south of 1,000 wheel, you don't plan on going above that, this is gonna give you all the holding power you need while still providing you with a very pleasant experience. Now, earlier in the video, I did mention something about a little extra noise with a twin disc. Honestly, guys, it's not uncommon for you to experience a little bit more noise with a clutch like this at idle due to that floater plate and just the overall design, but it is something that you should be aware of here before purchasing and installing your clutch. Now, if you do take the time to read up on some customer reviews, you'll notice that some customers do mention this, of course, in the review section. And as always, guys, I'm just going to encourage you to read up on some of those reviews because it's not just guys like me who has had great experience with this clutch, but other Challenger owners out there actually running this thing, and it's a good way to get some real-world feedback. Now, as I mentioned earlier, twin disc clutches can be a bit on the pricey side, and that is the case here with the RST from McLeod. It's going to come in at right around 1,500 bucks, which again, I know it's not exactly the most affordable clutch out there, but you have to keep in mind what you're getting here. Unparalleled holding capabilities along with that very, very soft pedal feel make this a great choice for any street strip Challenger out there who wants to put that power down and do so in a comfortable way. Now, installing a new clutch obviously can be a bit difficult if you've never done one before and if you don't have access to things like a lift and a pretty solid set of tools. So that's why the site's just going to call this one a full three out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and I would say a day to get knocked out from start to finish, maybe a little less if you've done this kind of thing before. But ultimately, guys, if you're not comfortable with this kind of job, don't be afraid to call your local shop and have them knock this one out for ya. Wrapping this one up, guys, again, if you are looking for a proven clutch for a high horsepower application that maintains great pedal feel and drivability and you'd prefer to hang on to that factory flywheel, well, then you have to consider the RST from McLeod right here at americanmuscle.com.
