Justin: The Mishimoto Performance Intercooler here in Black will be for the 2015 and newer 2.7-liter and 3.5-liter EcoBoost owners who are looking to keep those charge temps down and consistent performance up by going with one of the largest options currently available to fit in the factory location. Now, this particular intercooler will feature that powder coated black aluminum build for a more stealthy appearance right around that mid $800 price point is what you're looking at. Install according to the site will get a middle of the road two outta three wrenches on the old difficulty meter, couple of hours or so to complete from start to finish. But if you hang with me for a little bit guys will show you a detailed walkthrough later in the video. So, first and foremost, you're probably wondering why you might wanna upgrade your factory intercooler in the first place. Well, I'm gonna tell you guys that one of the best things that I have personally done with my EcoBoost powered rig at home was replace the factory undersized unit with a much larger option. Now, we even did some back to back testing on the dyno and found that with that larger intercooler in place, those charged temps remain consistently lower, which as a result allowed for more power and more consistent power. And it didn't fall off like it did with the factory intercooler in place, which tends to get heat soaked really quickly. But now let's talk about some of the finer details here with the Mishimoto intercooler in regards to some of the built and benefit. And again, first up guys, you are gonna be replacing that rather small stock core and plastic end tank setup from Ford with a 100% aluminum TIG welded option finished in a stealth black coating, while there is also a silver option available here on the site for the same price. Now, the Mishi is going to increase your finned surface area, essentially all of this right here by 163% and increase your internal core volume by 77%. Now, all of this working together guys is gonna result in a 10 degree reduction of ambient intake temps and as a result will prove to be less prone to heat soak like that stocker.I'm also really digging the fact that Mishi has incorporated a 1/4 inch NPT bung here or drain plug into the bottom of the intercooler. And that's gonna help eliminate the sometimes problematic condensation that can build up in the factory charge air coolers, and at that point cause a random misfire code, mainly an issue on the earlier trucks but can happen with the newer stuff as well. Now, this guy does mount in the factory location, so no need for anything crazy there for the installation. However, one big thing I do wanna point out is that for owners who might be considering adding a winch or winch mount bumper, this particular intercooler might not be your best bet because it will interfere with that winch mounting solution. So, at that point, you will need to consider an intercooler that moves from the factory location down behind the front bumper up into your upper grille area. And there are a few different options currently here on the site that you can check out there. Now, the Mishimoto is designed to work with both your factory hot and cold side piping in addition to other kits including Mishimoto piping, and also your factory or aftermarket bypass or blow off valves as long as they mount in the factory location. Now, you can also look forward to a limited lifetime warranty here with the Mishimoto intercooler in place, and this thing does not require a tune to be installed and to be efficient. But now as promised, let's talk about that installation a little bit more, show you how it's done. And to do so again, here's my buddy Andrew with your detailed walkthrough along with a quick little tool breakdown.Andrew: Tools used in this installation: 10-millimeter wrench, 3/8 drive, sockets ranging from 7 millimeters up to 13, extension, flathead screwdriver, optional is an impact. Today we're gonna be installing this Mishimoto performance black intercooler on this 2016 F-150. Let me show you how I put it in. All right, since we're going after the intercooler right there and our truck's lifted it'd be really easy to just get underneath it and unhook it. However, for informational purposes I am going to bring the truck up in the air and show you exactly what to do.All right, now looking at the intercooler, this is the cold side, you can see our charge pipe going up to our intake here. This is our diverter valve, and this is for your temperature sensor right there. So, now what we're gonna do is disconnect our diverter valve just by turning this collar here and pulling backwards, getting that out of the way. And then you'll see this little clip here. I have a flathead screwdriver, I'm going to go behind it right here and just pry and that's gonna undo that. Then you can take this clip completely out or you can leave it, we're just gonna slide this tube back a little bit, may still be on the bottom right here. All right, now we're gonna undo our electrical connection here and move on to our hot side. All right, now we're after our boots that connect to our inner cooler from both turbos, I have a 7-millimeter socket for these hose clamps, [inaudible 00:04:54] my impact set at the lowest setting. I'm just gonna undo these and then we're gonna separate these pipes just like that and kick these off to the side just so the boots are not interfering with them. And if there's a little oil in that, that's fine. That's just for your PCV and to lube up them turbos a little bit.All right, now there are two 13-millimeter bolts, holding your intercooler brace in place. And then when I get it out, you'll see that there's two rubber fittings that are kind of pressed up into the framing here for the intercooler. Now, I have my impact set at my highest setting so I can get these bolts out. Now, it may not just drop out of place, you may have to tug a little bit and there it comes. Sometimes a diverter valve gets hung up on that charge pipe, there you go.All right, once you have your stock intercooler and your new Mishimoto on the table, there are a few things you need to switch over such as these rubber grommets. Now, keep in mind the fit of these grommets is not as tight as the factory one. So, when you're putting it back up in there, it's not gonna press fit. So, you may need an extra hand or jack to get it up there while you start your bolts. Now next, we're gonna move over these boots to that side. All right, moving on to the diverter valve now, you're gonna need to change up your socket to an 8-millimeter with an extension. My impact is set to the lowest setting because this is a plastic housing, we're just gonna rotate this out of the way and I'll show you how this goes on in a second. Because we have to get the bottom plate off as well as these bushings. And now we can get this out of the way.All right, so next step is to install our diverter valve, it will go into the stock position. What we're gonna do first is install this bracket. Now, in my hand I have a 10-millimeter bolt, I'm gonna slip a washer onto, slide it through, then this bracket, the one end is gonna go right there with a lock wash and that 10-millimeter nut. Now, I'm not gonna tighten this down just yet until I get it in place and I can slip my other two bolts in. I'm just gonna hold this here, install my diverter valve as I slip into this clocked position here, slide it over. Now I can install my two bolts. All right, now with a 10-millimeter wrench on the backside, and the 10 on the front, tighten the diverter valve down. All right, now we're gonna flip it back on its front side here and install our brace. And now that's ready to go back on the truck. All right, before we install our new intercooler, one thing we have to do is move this little plastic surround. And what I found is very helpful is to use the back of your hand here and to just get it over those clips. There's one on the top as well. It's really tough to see on camera, but if you start these all down the line it should pop out. Now there's couple more at the top as well. Little tough to get your hand up top there. All right, so we're about to install our new intercooler, but I was just test fitting a couple of things and this charge pipe is going to run into a little clearance issue. So, what I have is a bungee cord attached to our frame and I'm just going to slip this charge pipe up and out of the way for right now. All right, so also in preparation, I'm putting our clip into place just so we don't have to do it in an awkward spot. You will see where these little rings go in there, so we're just gonna leave that like that so we can slip it in, we'll be good to go. All right, so you're gonna wanna make sure that your charge pipes are clearing and at the top of the intercooler is going into its designated spot. Just go over to the left a little bit more. All right, now I'm going to attempt to start a bolt just to hold but I got here. Looks like it still has to go over left, there we go. I'm just starting these bolts, I'm making sure that everything's lining up, looking in the front, pushing up and you can see through this hole where that top mount needs to go into and that looks good as well. All right now I'm gonna tighten down my 13-millimeter bolts. All right, now since our core is so much larger, our boots are gonna be a lot closer to our charge pipes than normal. So, it may be a little tough to slip these back on, but try your hardest. I'm gonna start at the top first just so I don't have to work around. Bring your clamp over, I'll tighten that in a second. We're gonna tighten that back down with our 7-millimeter socket. Now, we can move on to the other side. All right, at this point we're on the other side, we are going to reconnect our electrical connection here. Moving on to our charge pipe, we're gonna reconnect this. You're gonna hear that click, you got to make sure it's over this ridge, and that clip is going into that little channel there. You're going to hear a little click. All right. Now our diverter valve right here, reconnect that, and you're good to go.All right, that's gonna wrap up my install of this Mishimoto Black Performance Intercooler, and for all things F-150, keep it here at americantrucks.com.
