Justin: Hey everybody, Justin with americanmuscle.com here with Chip Foose checking out the MMD by Foose hood scoop available for your 2015 and up Mustang in your choice of either unpainted or prepainted. Who better to talk about this product than the man himself, Chip Foose? Chip, what do we have going on here? Chip: Well, this hood scoop, I actually put it on my 2015 convertible that I built for the SEMA show. Before I had ever seen the car in person I had gotten a couple of pictures and I had done some sketches. I really changed the design quite a bit once I actually got the car, because it's the subtlety of form that's the design language of this car. You want to be able to pull that same language into any part that you're building so it doesn't look like an after market part and it looks like something that should've come from the factory. When you follow the little lines and the details, even this little fade out of the line coming into the front, it's the same thing that's happening with the headlight. I just pulled the same little peak that's in the hood itself. It comes through the center of the hood. Like I say, it's the subtlety of design language that you want to put into every part that you're making to put on the car. It's giving it that muscle car feel but it still looks like that classic Mustang design that you know from Ford itself. Justin: It really does look like a muscle car hood. You spoke to me at the SEMA show. You really liked how the factory hood had these two almost lines in the hood and you really wanted to work off that. Chip: Yeah. I love these lines. The way it rolls up, I wanted that same surface to transfer right through into the hood scoop but look like it's not an after market part that's bolted on the car. It looks like a part that came on the car. Justin: Absolutely. Speaking of bolting it up to your car, guys, it does include detailed instructions of course along with a drilling template. There is a little bit of drilling involved but not that bad. Figure a couple of hours from start to finish to get everything bolted up to your car. Again, it is available either unpainted or prepainted. With the AM prepainted parts, of course you can expect a perfect color match right out of the box as we can see here with this ingot silver car. Chip, great part, sir. It looks great on the Mustang here. Guys, if you want a really unique hood scoop for your 2015 and up Mustang, be sure to check out this particular hood scoop from MMD by Foose here at americanmuscle.com.

Can I install this scoop with out drilling the hood? If I use only the 3M tapes it will be OK or No?..

      • The MMD by FOOSE Hood Scoop is to be installed using bolts and 3m tape. We do not advise just using 3m tape because of safety reasons.

How does the scoop act aerodynamically? Does air pass through or is it blocked inside? Is it open or closed at the front or windshield? How heavy is it? Will it add a lot of weight to my Red Line Tuning hydraulic hood supports?

      • This hood scoop will not allow much air to pass through and will be blocked. As for the weight this would be around 15 lbs and would work perfectly with your hood struts.

Is there any way to get a picture of the hood unpainted

      • Unfortunately, at this time we do not have a picture of the unpainted hood scoop and are using the product photos of the prepainted part. This hood scoop unpainted would arrive in a matte black finish.

        Love the scoop

Great scoop, good color match. They could make it easier by providing a stiff, clear plastic template instead of that wishy-washy paper tape. I made my own cardboard template. Other than that, it's a great scoop. I will post pics.

        Foose Scoop

The item I received is not formed right, the front piece that sticks out from the scoop will not fit flush with the hood. It has about a 1/4 gap and the bolt is tight as I can get it with out bending the good.

        Hood scoop lifting problems

I really love the look of this Hood scoop makes the car look awesome. However after about two months the corners by the windshield started lifting. Some days it's nice and flat and looks great and other days it lifts up on both corners a quarter inch plus. I'm sure it's temperature related is my only disappointment with this product. Has anyone figured out a good solution for this problem or has The factory addressed this issue. Would love any feedback to fix this problem thank you

I like the design and look of scoop. Install wasn't difficult, but did require a slow thought out approach. The color match wasn't good, however, problem might be the hood color being off and not the scoop. Because of the color mis-match I had scoop paint gloss black. After having the scoop on the car (silver) for several weeks without fit problems, it began to warp at the rear corners when painted black. I carefully drilled back flange underside and pulled down the corners. It now fits and looks great, I posted pic... really like the current look and fit.

Very happy with results. Yes I was nervous about drilling five holes in my hood, but my husband did it no problem. Although, I admit I had to walk away a few times...due to the nerves. LOL. It was so worth it. Highly recommend this scoop. Way to go, Chip Foose!

Cool as heck, but let a body shop to it.

Took me 5 hrs. Instructions are a bit 'not well written'. The video that American has doesn't show an install, but 2 guys standing next to a car talking about it. The first instructions that comes with the box is: "consider removing the hood for easier installation" "WHAT" ?" Now you tell me? Conclusion: Cool as heck, but let a body shop do it.

Great look but things to consider

The look of the hood scoop is fantastic. I got the oxford white to match my car and wrapped it with black vinyl because I was torn on which color to get. The black scoop with my black roof marries up perfectly but I have the option to go back to my factory color whenever I like. Installation took me about half a day simply because I'm somewhat of a perfectionist. There are some design flaws for us who live in the southern states that will likely have issues with. Installed as directed using the included tape is easy enough and I highly recommend using 3M 94 adhesive primer to give the tape all the strength you can give it. Unfortunately for me it still was not enough to defeat the heat from the sun. The back corners of the scoop near the windshield would warp when the hood would cool off after being in the direct sun all day at work. Eventually a 1/8 and sometimes 1/4 inch gap would appear. It's all I could see when driving and it drove me nuts! I removed and reinstalled the hood scoop 3 times at the recommended indoor temperature before giving up on the 3M tape - each time removing and cleaning all the residue from the car and scoop. WHAT A PAIN! The design flaw I mentioned is the placement of the bolts in the rear corners. They are too far towards the front and center of the hood scoop to adequately hold the corners down. 3M's tape alone isn't enough to hold down nearly 10-15lbs of force it takes to hold down the warping corners. The answer for me was drywall anchors! I could not find a proper threaded bolt set matching the factory bolts online so I improvised. I bought a set of metal drywall anchors, the type that look like screws with really aggressive threads. I ground the ends off of the shortest ones I could buy so they measured about 1/4 to 3/8 in length. Too long and you'll damage the top of the scoop! I used this to mount to the furthest corners of the hood scoop while being conscious of where the screw holes will be in the cars hood. I didn't want them too far to the corners where the holes are visible. Basically the two new holes are next to my wiper fluid nozzles. After installing a third time with my modifications, I now have the perfect fit.

Factory looking - just what I wanted

I have the limited run 50yr anniversary GT and I dont want to modify it at all really but that big empty space in the middle of the hood just looked like something was missing. This scoop looks like it came from the factory - not like a Pep Boys tack-on piece. It looks amazing especially in the Kona Blue.

very quick shipping, little harder to install then anticipated once on it looked amazing, had some minor chips from shipping, very small but A/M did compensate from the minor chips, looks even more amazing after professional Vinyl Graphics, make sure to have extra 3m tape, and magnetic screwdriver or something to prevent the screw from falling while screwing into the scoop

Makes your front end look like a true Muscle Car!

Item arrived nicely and safely packaged. Paint match was right on. Instructions were thorough and with photos. The only item I would add to the instructions is regarding the placement on the hood at the back edge. This scoop is designed to perfectly flow with back edge of the hood and a picture would assist some with the install. The only complaint with this scoop... It could fit more flush with the ribs on the hood. Most photos display this shortcoming, and the sun's shadow really emphasizes this. Otherwise, Love it!. Just need to add the stripes back on. Thank you Chip Foose!

        Great look!

Aside from performance mods I have made to my 15' GT Convertible, this is the best part I have bought. The color match is spot on and scoop looks amazing and gets lots of comments. All that said, I did encounter a few issues. The template pieces fit loosely and caused some challenges. The provide screws had burrs on them that made them difficult to put in. I also had one nut that was molded to the scoop that was angled a little bit so screw went in a little funny. I used a tape measure to double check the template placement which helped, but still ended up drilling holes with a 5/16th instead of a 9/32nd to allow a little more room. I also purchased new bolts with allen heads instead of using the phillips head bolts. Using and allen wrench allow more control and the bolts went in smoother. I also chase all of the nuts molded to the scoop with a tap prior to install and used a drop of thread lock on the bolts. Even with the issues I encountered its a great part. I have always done all of my own installs and work on my car so from reading other reviews and how easy it was to install I thought it would have gone much smoother, but it all worked out and I still think it deserves a high rating. It did take us a little longer to install because we had to go find different bolts and I touch up painted the holes after drilling them.

        Looks great but.......

I love the way this scoop looks on the car but the whole drilling into the hood is kind of nerve racking. Unboxing most of the 2way tape on the scoops got ripped off because it was stuck on the packaging so after drilling the holes and mounting it was kind of a task and it didn’t turn out as good as I wanted it to but still looks good to the untrained eye. It really collects water at the car wash so make sure you pop the hood and drain it out befor whipping it down
