Features & Details

  • Superior Traction and Reliable Handling
  • Excellent Anti-Hydroplaning Characteristics
  • Directional Tread Design
NT555. The Nitto NT555 285/40-18 is a summer-oriented, ultra high-performance street tire that was designed with the performance driver in mind. With one of the largest contact patches available, the NT555 provides superior traction and reliable handling - without sacrificing tread life. Both the tread pattern and the compound were optimized for dry performance. The highly rigid tread blocks provide stability while prolonging tire life. The NT555 will get you off the line quicker in the straights and provide confidence in the corners.

Superior traction and reliable handling. By utilizing a racing concept design, Nitto Tire's engineers developed the NT555 "Extreme ZR". With a specially formulated compound and one of the biggest contact patches available, the NT555 provides superior traction and reliable handling.

Excellent anti-hydroplaning characteristics. The three-circumferential grooves channel water efficiently, while the lateral grooves break up the water wedge. This combination of grooves and channels reduces the chance of hydroplaning. Combined with an increase in tread block rigidity, a high modulus carcass, and hard bead filler, the NT555 delivers total vehicle control under all driving conditions.

Directional tread design. The tread pattern on the Nitto NT555 is designed for high-speed stability and superb cornering performance. High tread block rigidity secures stable contact with the road under all driving conditions.

5 Year Warranty. This Nitto Tire comes with a 5-year warranty from the date of purchase. Some limitations do apply. Please see the Full Nitto Warranty disclosure for details.

Best Fit: 18 x 10 Inch 2005+ Wheels

  • High-grip compound delivers superior mobility on both wet and dry surfaces, while ensuring a high level of anti-wear performance
  • W Performance Rated, Treadwear 300, Traction and Temperature A

NOTE: These are extreme ultra high performance summer specific compound and tread tires. Use during the summer and warm temperature months will result in far superior traction over “all season” tires. Use during the winter months/cold temperatures drastically reduces traction and exponentially increases stopping distance as the compound becomes less sticky.

Rear/staggered 18" I purchased an 18" GT500 (9/10) staggered combo for my 2012 GT that came with 275/40 rears...will these tires fit the car and the wheels without any fitment, clearance, or mounting problems? How about when I install the Eibach suspension kit?

  • You can absolutely use these 285/40-18 tires on your rear 18x10 wheels without any problems - no rubbing or clearance issues. You can drop your Mustang up to 2" without any problems as well so you the Eibach kit should work out great for you!

will 285/40/18's fit on 9 inch rims? have 2008 bullitt with stock 18x9 inch rims, can i put 285/40/18 tires on ?

  • Unfortunately you need a bit wider rim for those. Like a 18x9.5 and bigger

do 285/40/18 tires fit my 02 mustang gt??? Hi, I was looking at the nitto tires(285/40/18) and I saw that they fit 05 mustangs and up, do you think they can fit my 2002 mustang gt with rims size of 18x10???

  • They should fit the 18x10 wheel yes, but the diameter of that tire size might be a tad too large and rub your fenders. If you are looking at 18x10 wheels for you 2002, I'd recommend the NT555 in the 285/35-18, which won't cause any rubbing issues on your generation Mustang.

    • Response from AmericanMuscle

NT555 tires are a higher performance tire that shouldn't cause any loss in traction over your stockers. MT's are the next step up but these should still be performing better than your previous setup. If you feel these aren't meeting your expectations, please give us a call and we can see what we can do to help you out!

    These tires are EXCELLENT!

There is nothing that I Dislike about these Tires. Unless you consider the lack of peeling out or sliding on turns a Disklike. I have a CAI and Custom Tune from Bamachips as well as a few other mods, and with the stock Pirellis, my tires would squeel everytime I took off at a stoplight when I gave it WOT. With these I rarely get even a tiny squeel. Turns I used to take at 55 and start to loose grip, I now take at 65. Also, for being as wide as these are, they have amazing hydroplaning resistance. I am not saying that you dont slide on water, that is not the case. But you can defitely drive on the interstate at normal speeds with these, even in somewhat heavy rain. I put around 11k Miles on these this summer and they have about 80% of the tread left, so they will last quite a while.

Love these tires. I have a staggered setup and run these in the rear with deep dish FR500's. Super sticky tires and will grab traction. Even grabbed traction when I was at a stop sign and was over some loose road grime/dirt, kicked it aside and stuck to the road. Strictly summer tires though. When it gets real cool in the morning, you can tell the difference and wouldn't want to run them in cold temps. Been good in the rain so far, but I don't push my luck on wet surfaces anyhow.

The NT555's are even better than I'd hoped. Super grippy around corners in the dry, and worked very well on a road course in the rain. They're even very quiet during highway cruising. The bonus is their great looks. A fantastic upgrade for any 'Stang.

Great traction!! Great improvement over stock tires when wheel spin is a issue on the street. Went with staggered sizes with 255's up front and 285's in the rear and the tire combination looks amazing.

    Retrain myself

I was a bit skeptical thinking there's no way these tires would perform like the F1 Goodyear Supercar tires that I replaced. Goodyear tires for just the rear would've been about $1000, so I thought I'd give the Nitto Extreme Performance NT555s a try. Wow I am Extremely impressed, but now I have to retrain myself in driving my 2008KR. These tires out handle far better than the Goodyear tires; they're more sticky and snug the road like no tires I have ever owned, and no I do not work for Nitto; I'm just an amazed new Nitto customer that blown away how sticky these tires are. I don't know how they'll do when I put a few thousand miles on them, but for now the drifting, gliding, and sliding is gone with these Nitto tires - that's what I wanted. Drifting is fun but not if you run off the side of the road.

    EXTREMELY pleased with these tires.

I've been using these exact tires (255/45/18 and 285/40/18) since 2010. They are on my summer chrome wheels and are run from spring til the end of fall. Winter wheels go on around Thanksgiving. The rears have finally had it, worn down to the warning bar. They've never seen track days, burnouts or doughnuts. I am heavy footed, aggressive starts and do lay down stripes every so often. I really didn't expect these to last as long as they did and probably should have not ran the rears so low, had a few fishtails in the rain this last season. With that said I'll be picking up a new set for the rear. The fronts still have about 2 more seasons. As for road noise I don't hear any since the SLP LOUDmouths drown out all noise.

    Nitto 285/40/18 Nt555

This is my second set with about 45,000 miles on first set, the grip is outstanding on country roads where stop signs are five miles apart and long highway runs. I don't smoke the tires so the tires last and the old ones still have plenty on rubber left. I only needed to replace because of a large bolt run over in a construction zone. I highly recommend these tires.

    Great tires for the money

I researched, and was trying to find the best tire for my money given that I was buying tires and rims at the same time. These fit the bill perfectly for perfect sizing, great grip, and hopefully tread life. They're really what you'd expect for the money, there's room for improvement but that's what more expensive tires are for. What made me want to come and write this review is their wet weather traction for my fellow daily drivers out there. Don't get me wrong I don't drive like an idiot in the rain and expect to stay on the road, but I've pushed a little bit on these just to test them. It will still put you back in the seat in wet weather. No hydroplaning issues that I've found yet either, I think i hydroplaned slightly the other day hitting a hidden puddle at abut 60, but even then the car didn't budge at all. Needless to say I'm impressed with these tires, and while my next set will be the NT05's to try them out, these were a very good place to start,

great pair of rear meats for your pony

Spent weeks trying to find the right tires for and finally decided on these for the rear and the 255/45/18 for the front. The traction on dry pavement is phenominal. To more chirping or sliding out, and it makes launching the car a lot easy. Highly recommend this tire.

    Love these tires!

I love the grip in both the dry and the wet. These have been a wonderful tire on the street, strip and track. They wear really well, don't make much noise and grip like flypaper. I'd have another set in a heartbeat.

    Ultra street performance

This tire has a smooth ride. The handling of the tires are good. Keep in mind, more horsepower less traction on any brand tire. The over all answer is, I like the Nitto NT555 tire, will use them when these wear out.
