Are the original o2 sensor the same size as the aftermarket o2 sensors? 1998 mustang GT.

Hi i will be replacing all 4 sensors on my 97 cobra Is it the same sensor for all 4? Thanks Dale

  • Those will only work up front, you need another set for the rear: two of each should do you just fine.

I have longtube headers, do i still need a extender kit with these O2 sensors?

  • I bought the same sensor and the wiring was much longer than the stock one so for now don't by the extender. It should reach just fine the wire was about 8 to 10 inches long or so.

Where is bank 2 o2 sensor located?? Just wandering is bank 2 in front or behind cats??

  • As far as I know when it refers to bank it means the side its on, left or right. It should tell you whether it's front or back. Bank 2 is possibly the left side but I'm not 100% sure on that. I hope this helps a little.

Bought my '98 SVT with the check engine light on. Got a screamin deal because the guy thought it was too expensive to fix. I replaced both upstream O2s with NTKs and it runs like a dream. The best deal I could find at a local parts store was $63 each, AM saved me $26, and they were in my mailbox within 2 days!

    no more check engine light

I've had problems figuring out why my check engine light was on. My cobra doesn't have a cat on the exhaust so I was told to get mil eliminators. I did but still had that light on. Took it to the dealer said I had 3 bad o2 sensors. Plugged these in and bam, no more check engine light. They were very simple to install and now my cobra is running better than ever.

Works well from what I can tell

I had a CEL on because of two O2 codes being thrown, bought two of these to replace the pre-cat sensors and the codes were gone. Only thing is that the lead wire was excessively long, but a couple twist ties took care of that. Overall seems to be working well, the codes went away/

    NTK O2 Sensor Installed-

I utilized this sensor for bank 2 primary sensor. Installation and operation was perfect. When using this sensor in the pre-cat bung, it's length is longer than OEM sensors, not an issue at all, just a fact. I have run a few hundred miles so far and performance has been flawless. The sensor I replaced was 200K miles old so increased MPG were expected and that is what resulted.

They are still a bear to get out.

This is the only device that will replace your original O2 sensor. I am not sure if there are any other brands but this one is fine. It will work as both front and rear (bank 1 and 2). Advice; get an offset wrench from your hardware store or Harbor Freight to remove the old one. They are EXTREMELY difficult to get out. Once you crack it it can be finger removed but getting that first crack is tough, you should use the wrench. Install is simple, finger tight and you are done.

    A++ for this product

My car was running sluggish. The check engine light was reading lean bank 2 sensor. I purchased 2 NTK sensors and installed them in about 20 minutes. Had to use PB Blaster to get the rust off the old ones. I noticed a extreme difference after I installed them. The car was better on gas and the power was back. I would say this is a must have if your car has the same problems.

    Front o2 Sensor

Install takes less than an hour for both sides. The harness is very long so make sure you have some zip-ties handy to tuck it away from the exhaust. I noticed a big difference in throttle response after replacing them. With the new o2 sensors installed my Air to Fuel gauge needle stays in optimal when idling. It was running lean with the old worn out ones. I highly recommend NTK o2 sensors. As always A&M has the best price. Local Auto part stores wanted way more.

bought this to solve inspection problem

when i bought my gt the previous owner flunked it thru inspection so i bought it and gave her all new exhaust and converters. while i was at it, i ordered this off american muscle along with the rear sensor. fits like it should and the look matched the old dirty one. the rear sensor however didnt but they all do the same job and havnt had any problems. the only thing which is no biggie, there was a lot of extra wire that just hangs.. i rolled a portion up and zip tied it together. i dont want the exhaust burning thru these things! not cheap to replace!

Great product, cleared my DTC code, quick install, came with good instructions, and most important it was half the price the auto store wanted. What more can you ask for?

    Great replacement

I was getting some o2 sensor alarms on my car and it was idling bad, not to mention you could smell a strong gas smell. I replaced this while also replacing the IAC valve and checking for vacuum lines and my car is running smooth as ever and that gas smell is gone!
