Hey, guys. Adam here with americanmuscle.com, and today we're taking a closer look at and installing the Pedal Commander Throttle Response Device Module available for the '08 and newer Challenger. Now you should be checking this out for your own Challenger if you're looking to increase your throttle response and acceleration to get off the line a lot quicker and have a lot sportier drive feel. This is gonna be a great way to go without spending big bucks on something like a custom handheld tuner. Now, this right off the bat is in no way, shape or form adding any horsepower or torque. It is simply modifying the ECU's communication to your throttle body, telling it to open up as soon as you hit that throttle pedal. What does that mean? The drive by wire delay exists and at the time you hit the pedal and the time your car actually gets going, there is a small delay. This device is going to either reduce or completely eliminate that depending on which mode you're in, which means you're getting off that line a lot quicker. Now, this not only affects getting off the line but merging lanes is going to be a lot easier. Even shaving time off your quarter mile at the track can happen, getting off that line quicker with this device. This one, in particular, has four different modes and each mode has nine different options to really fine tune where you want that throttle response delay or reduction to be. Some other devices out there are a lot simpler in the fact that they just have four modes and that's it. There's nothing further. This goes a little bit further than that, which I personally like. Now the modes being eco, city, sport, and sport plus. Now city is gonna be more for the guys, you know, daily driving, you're commuting to work but you want something a little more fun, throw it in city mode and then you have nine options from there. You can press these plus or minus buttons to cycle through each mode within that, and there's green LEDs to indicate which mode you're in. If you go back down, they turn red when it's reducing that throttle, so it's a good thing to have. You can cycle through that and you can do this on the fly. Now it's not recommended to do it actually driving to switch through modes, but when you come to a complete stop, you don't have to turn your car off. You don't have to even put it in park. Really, you can just cycle through that when you're not moving.Beyond city, there's sport, which is great for the weekend warrior or someone looking to do a little bit more spirited driving. Sport plus is for the track. Now that is recommended for off-road use only for guys hitting the drag strip, autocross maybe. That's gonna be one of the more extreme options to completely eliminate that delay. If you're in sport plus plus four, there's no delay whatsoever, so keep that in mind. That's your top tier mode for throttle response increase. On the other hand, there's eco mode. Eco mode you access by holding your power button a couple seconds. It'll pop into eco mode and there's LEDs to guide you through this way. Now eco mode is actually going to increase your throttle delay. Why would you want increased throttle delay? Well, a couple of reasons. Number one, maybe you're handing your keys off to someone you don't want having all of that throttle response. Eco mode is also gonna help you save MPGs. So if you're going on long highway road trips, it's going to be a good idea to throw it an eco. It will be a little bit easier on the throttle, you won't consume as much fuel. Also, eco mode's is good for a wet weather conditions in the snow or rain. You'll get a little bit more traction out of that by not gunning in the pedal. Your tires aren't going to break free as much. So that can be one of the safer modes to keep in mind. It's not recommended for use in conjunction with a handheld tuner. So if you already have a handheld tuner, not the best idea to pick this one up, but there are other options in the category that do support use with handheld tuners. So it really all comes down to which products you're looking for. If you plan on having a handheld tuner in the future or if you already have one. Just things to keep in mind while shopping. Now this one, in particular, comes in right around 300 bucks, which does put it just 100 or 200 bucks below certain handheld tuners depending on which one you're looking at, which definitely saves your wallet some. Keep in mind, again, it's not adding horsepower or torque, just editing that throttle response and acceleration. Installing this an absolute breeze, one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Anybody can tackle this with about 15 minutes. All it does is replace the plug on your throttle pedal and it comes with this mounting bracket you see right on our dash next to our start-stop button and it comes with Velcro. So this actually comes off and goes back on. You can mount it wherever you want. Now the first step here is to feed your wiring harness down under your driver side dash. Unplug the pedal sensor harness, plug it into one of these connectors, and then plug the other connector into the stock location. Now in order to avoid having just a wire down here sticking up with this mounted on our dash by the steering wheel, this is pretty ugly. So what I want to do is I'm actually gonna pop off this trim piece under the dash and feed the wire down there. I think that's gonna make things a little cleaner, a little more attractive. It's all personal preference, but I do recommend doing this if you don't want the wire hanging down there. Now what we're going to do is basically peel back on this trim panel and pop it down just a little. You don't have to go too far, just enough so that this wire could fit through. That way, we'll feed this down and pull it off from the bottom. Perfect. You can feed any of that excess down into this little indent or divot, close that panel back up. All right, so now what you're gonna want to do under the dash is peel back this carpeting layer and go right up above your throttle pedal, pinch and disconnect that sensor. Grab the harness from the other end of the throttle device and plug that into the stock location. Only one of them will fit in that spot. It's the one with this red locking tab. Drop and lock that down. The other end of the harness is gonna plug into this factory harness just like this. Perfect. From there, you can feed that wiring harness under the carpeting layer and put that back in position and we're good to go back up. All right, now we just have to mount our device. Now we're gonna use the Velcro with the 3M included in the kit. One piece is gonna go on the back of the device. The other piece is gonna stick to anywhere really on the dashboard that you see fit. It's all personal preference. I like putting mine right about here and because it's Velcro, you can just detach it and hold it in your hand outward, so I think it's just a good spot for it. What we're gonna do is take the dash wipe included in the kit, which is really alcohol wipes specifically used for your dashboard. Just a little cloth here. What we're gonna do is wipe off the area as well as the back of the device. Just making sure it's clean, there's no dust or anything like that that would prohibit the 3M from sticking. Once you have that taken care of, you're gonna peel off the backing on the Velcro which is really a sticky 3M and mount it on the back of the device. Really peeling off the backing on the Velcro and you're gonna stick one side of it to the back of the throttle device. Peel off the other side, you're gonna stick it where you want it on the dash. Now you want to push and hold so it gets a really good bond. Give it a few moments for the 3M to settle and then you can remove it with the Velcro. Now the cool thing about that is really what you just stuck was the mount itself. It's more of a bracket-style system. So this really clips right out and your bracket stays in place so it's easily mounted. And because we an the wiring under that trim, you can tuck excess when it stuck and pull excess out for you to have it out by your radio and maybe hand it off to someone to show them. I mean it's really got some versatility to it with mounting positions. There's enough wire so that it can really extend and make it easy to reach. But for safekeeping and out of the way, it's a good spot. Well, guys, that's gonna wrap up my review and install for the Pedal Commander Throttle Response Control Module for the '08 and newer Challenger.
