Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey guys, Stephanie with americanmuscle.com here is an overview of the Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller for all 2011 and newer Mustangs. In this video, we're gonna talk about a few different things with the Pedal Commander, like what exactly it is and does, the performance you can expect from it, and we'll cover the install as well. I'll get into more detail in the install later, but this is a very easy plug and play install. So I'm gonna call it a one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter. The Pedal Commander's gonna be a good option for those of you out there that are looking to improve throttle response and their drive by wire car. This is a plug and play device that won't void your warranty or add power and torque. It simply improves the drive by wire throttle response. But the electronic throttle control technology or drive by wire setup, there's a lag between the time you hit the pedal and when the throttle body opens. This isn't something that you can change by driving differently, it's just there, and that's how these cars work. T he drive by wire system that these cars have monitors the position of the gas pedal to control the throttle electronically. That means that the signal from the pedal has to be sent to the ECU, which it then sends a signal to the actuator that controls the throttle body, and that's the delay that you feel. So the throttle body is still gonna open at the same rate no matter how you drive. This power converter eliminates that delay and gives you a crisp throttle response. Of course, this isn't gonna add any power or change anything in the way the car drives besides the throttle response. It's gonna make the throttle response more sensitive and the drive more enjoyable. This is gonna be a great option for those of you that don't wanna go the route of a custom tune. Maybe you don't wanna void your warranty or you don't want the other things that come along with the tune, but you just want a better throttle response and that's it. So this controller does have different modes that are preset. You have an Eco, City, Sport, and Sport Plus mode, and these are all four different types of driving. But within those modes, you also have eight different sensitivity settings, so that's four modes with eight different sensitivity settings for each. And that's a ton of different settings, so I'd say that this is gonna help you customize your throttle response to a degree, and getting your car corresponding how you like it to. Price wise, you can expect to pay right around the $300 mark for this controller. This is close to the price of a custom tune for your car, but this is a little bit easier. You just plug this and go. And this controller does give you more options and more modes than other controllers that are currently available on the site. And unlike a tune, you aren't voiding your warranty here, you're just improving the throttle response. As far as the install, this is a very simple one. So, it's gonna be a 1 out of 3 wrenches in the difficulty meter, and it's gonna take about 15 minutes to get plugged in. I'd say that the hardest part of this is laying under the dash. You don't need any tools at all. You're simply gonna unplug the factory harness from above the gas pedal, plug in your power commander, and tuck the wiring back into place. This is all plug and play so it's very simple. You can run your wiring however you'd like to and place your controller anywhere that you want it. Wrapping things up here with the Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller, this is a direct plug and play device that will allow you change and customize your throttle response without boarding warranty or adding hose power. As always, I suggest you check it out more online, and for all things Mustang, keep it right here at americanmuscle.com.

Eliminates Drive-By-Wire Pedal Delay. The 2011-2017 Mustangs are all notorious for delayed throttle response. This is because Ford uses a drive-by-wire system that monitors the position of the gas pedal to control the throttle electronically, similar to a dimmer switch. The problem with this setup is that the signal from the pedal has to first be sent the ECU, which in turn then sends the signal to the actuator motor that controls the throttle body itself. This delay is most noticeable when trying to speed up to merge with fast moving traffic or pass a slower moving car. However, you can now eliminate this annoying delay for crisp throttle response with a Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller.

Four Adjustable Control Modes. Unlike other throttle control devices that are either on or off, the Pedal Commander comes with four preset control modes for Eco, City, Sport and Sport Plus driving applications. Best of all each mode has 8 different levels of sensitivity, this will allow you to personally adjust each mode to your own personal driving style and needs.

Easy Plug & Play Installation. The Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller connects directly into the stock throttle position sensor found on the drive-by-wire gas pedal using an OEM style plug and play connector with no permanent modifications required. The Pedal Commander is 100% reversible making it warranty friendly.

2 Year Product Warranty. Pedal Commander manufactures their Throttle Response Controller to the highest quality and standards with CE and TUV Certification. However in the event you do receive a defective or malfunctioning device, Pedal Commander will replace it free of charge within 2 years of the original purchase date.

Compatible with Aftermarket Programmers. The Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller can be used in conjunction with common aftermarket OBD-II programmers and/or monitors such as: SCT, Diablosport, Hypertech, Superchips, Bully Dog, and Edge.

Application. The Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller is designed for use on all 2011-2017 Mustangs including the V6, EcoBoost, GT, BOSS, Shelby GT500 and Shelby GT350 models.

How the control is attached to the dash? Screws or 3m tape? Also please let me know if completely eliminate the lag on automatic car? In my car when I set to the ''Sport'' and go to the manual gears mode, I don't feel the delay in response. Just when in Drive, when I step all the way down, the car takes forever to respond. Please let me know if this is the solution I am looking for.

  • The Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller attaches to a bracket that gets screwed into the dash. This could be applied with double sided tape, but it is designed for being installed with screws. This will eliminate throttle lag, giving you 8 sensitivity settings in 4 different drive modes.

When I turn the vehicle off does it go back to factory settings requiring me to reset the throttle setting each time I turn the vehicle on?

JonW

  • The Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller should save your settings so that when turn your vehicle back on, those settings will still be applied to your vehicle.

I have a 2013 Roush Stage 3 supercharged with a with a JLT cold air intake and a custom tune. Will the Pedal Commander work having a custom tune? If so, I assume this will not have any impact and will not change any custom tunes?

Starsky

  • The Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller will install in line with the throttle pedal, and will only effect throttle sensitivity. You will have no issues using this with a tune.

will i gain any horse power with it, or not, and will this pedal commander work with Bama Rev-X Tuner by SCT w/ 2 Custom Tunes (11-14 V6), or should i purchase one or the other.

JorgeR

  • The pedal commander will really only change the sensitivity of the throttle response and make it hit harder. This will also work with the Bam Rev X tuner yes!

How do the different modes within the pedal commander work with the different drive modes on the Mustang GT automatic? The Sport mode already gives you more responsive throttle response, so I would be curious as to how the sport mode (pedal commander) in addition to using the sport mode on the car would work?

  • Hello! The Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller is not a required upgrade for the Bama X4/SF4 Power Flash Tuner. However, they will work together.

    wondering if......

Installation of Pedal Commander was easy enough, but upon trying it out, throttle response was awesome there but came also with bucking motions on the higher settings. That might resolve itself with a bigger throttle-body, like an 85-90 mm from BBK, which I will try in the near future Keep U posted!!!

    Pedal Commander

This is worth every penny! I have a tune and still use this to get the desired throttle response I want. When its cold out or hot changes how much throttle response I want when having fun or at the track, and its also nice for daily driving. And you can simply turn it off when you don't want to use it. If you are looking for more response out of your 5.0 down low then this is for you. Its not that the 5.0 is weak down low its the throttle response that sucks and this will take care of that. I wouldn't turn it on though until your car is up to normal operating temps and I would find an empty area to test out the different settings before driving in traffic (its that drastic of a change depending on the setting of the controller).

    Better than I thought

I was skeptical at how much of a difference it could possibly make but for $300 I couldn't not try it. The difference is amazing. I didn't even realize how much lag there actually was. As for driveability i have a manual trans 2016 GT and it is only difficult to drive in city traffic with sport plus mode. If you have a problem driving it that much sell your Mustang and buy a Honda Civic because you can't drive a real car.

Super noticeable and just what you need!

Unlike the BBK throttle body this device makes an even more more better modification for better acceleration and throttle response when already at a certain speed. This device really wakes up the engine! Really easy to install and fast just like if your tuning the car. Best of all it comes with a two year warranty so it comes with no additional charge and is a really reasonable price.

This "throttle booster" really does work !

I was not expecting such a difference with this throttle controller. This throttle response controller should be for those who occasionally want to open up their pony. I find it more useful when I drive more aggressively as it's hard to notice when you drive conservitably even though there are different modes.

Buy the product, you won't regret it. I like that you can choose the settings you want. I like running it on -4 sport for everyday use. A camaro ss wanted to race me, I put it on sport 1 and I smoke him. Fast acceleration. On sport your tires will spin in every gear though. Try using the pedal commander where there's no traffic at first to get use to it. GUARANTEED it will wake up your car

    Pedal commander

Installing was simple. What I'm finding out is, don't turn it on until your car is warmed up. It revs your car uncontrollable into red line. But, after working with it, and getting it set, it does work quite well. It has immediate throttle response. I'm on sport mode level 4 and I like it. Anything greater than that, gets extremely aggressive/intense. I wish it came with directions for more clarity. Definitely for spirited driving.

    Made the car almost undrivable

Installed this and took it off after 3 days. Made the car borderline undrivable. The throttle became FAR to touchy making it very hard to simply take off from a stop. At the top end, the lack of response was noticeable as there was a noticeable dip in response in the higher rpm range, it was almost stumble over itself. I have a tune from Sai Li so i know that wasn't the problem. The throttle response just was not smooth. I was hoping that it would make it feel like it was in Sport mode, but it didn't. Just too harsh

    Very Impressive

I have been looking for a way to improve the performance without voiding my warranty and this controller will do just that. With easy plug-and-play, the controller turns your car into a new machine. I immediately felt VERY noticeable gains and I love the options of being able to set the car to city/daily/performance modes. I am excited to stack this item with a tuner in the summer, along with my current Airaid intake. I highly recommend this product.

    Makes the car very tunable

I haven't had it for long, but it is well worth it. I think it's great. But I could never find an in depth review on each setting, so I'm going to write one. Sport Like another reviewer said it does get very jumpy. You can't just put your foot down and go on this one, you have to have some control. This one you'll want to start out in first gear (for automatics) because once you downshift it gets uncontrollable. Not recommended for city driving or low speed areas (like parking lots) as the car will redline at the slightest touch of the throttle. Sport is good for spirited driving but I would not recommend having it on all of the time. And still avoid parking lots with this setting engaged. This setting makes the car accelerate and shift (for autos) much sportier. City is pretty close to stock just with quicker response. A problem I had with my car is it took it a second to take off from a stop. Not that the throttle was slow but I believe that's the stall of the torque converter. Which sometimes can be dangerous, but this close to eliminated that by raising the rpms just a little more. Eco mode is shamefully my favorite. It really has the most adjustablity. Eco mode really limits throttle. It can act as an eco mode to prevent heavy acceration or also as a valet mode. With eco turned up all the way the car really won't go over 30 with out 10 miles of road ahead of you. Or tuned all the way down it drives close to normal with decreased rpms. Or keep it on 0 setting and if you have someone else driving the car but you don't want them hot rodding it. However unlike the sprint booster it's not password protected so if they figure it out they can just turn it off. I turn eco mode on in parking lots. It makes the car a lot less jumpy and more drivable. I couldn't find any review that explains the different modes very well so I hoped this helped. My car is a 2011 3.7 with 3.73s. Ecoboosts and v8s may have a different experience with it.
