Review & Install Video
Hey, guys. Justin, here with americanmuscle.com with my quick preview of the Putco Chrome Tailgate Handle Cover available for your 2015, the newer F-150. In this video, I'm gonna run down a few basic things you can expect when checking out the Putco cover here for your F-150, basically what to expect when it comes to materials, how it's gonna impact your overall styling, how it's gonna impact your wallet and what it takes to get it installed on to your rig. Now, again guys, in true Putco fashion, this is going to be another peel-and-stick install so expect a very easy one out of three wrenches on a difficulty scale and I'll have a little bit more on that later on.
Now guys, this is a very simple part that should appeal to those owners out there who really enjoy the look of chrome and wanna add a little bit more chrome or flash to the otherwise boring black or painted tailgate handle cover area or surround. Now, this is a very easy, very affordable part that you can throw on that should complement some of the other chrome already on your truck whether it'd be the chrome bumpers, wheels, grills or whatever.
Now, if you guys are familiar with the truck aftermarket or the chrome truck aftermarket, then you probably heard the name Putco throughout the years that's because this is what they do best, they've been producing Chrome truck accessories for over four decades now and continue to produce a wide variety of parts for a wide variety of vehicles, all with the goal of making them look a little bit better.
As I mentioned a little bit earlier, this is a very simple part with really only one purpose in mind and that's to improve the appearance around the tailgate handle area. Now, this is made from ABS plastic, durable automotive grade, and then it's is finished off in Putco's Chrome plating process, which as you can see does produce a pretty nice shine.
Now, this particular cover that I have with me on the table here is going to be Putco's version for the higher end package trucks, such as your Lariats, the King Ranch, the Platinums, things like that, because those trucks actually don't use a handle, instead there's a little button up there that you actually push to open the tailgate itself. In addition to that, this cover will include holes for both the rearview camera and also the LED light.
Now, just keep in mind guys, Putco does offer a different cover for some of the other option trucks out there, so just make sure you're ordering the correct one for your truck. On the top of the price guys, I think you're going to find most of the Putco accessories to be very affordable and that is the case when we're looking at the handle surround here from Putco. This is gonna fall right around 40 bucks, which really isn't all that bad when you're considering an aftermarket accessory for your new F-150.
I might be saying something pretty obvious here guys, but this is a 100% aesthetic mod, there's really no functionality or gain from adding a part like this from Putco. However, with that said, it should make for a very nice appearance and pair it very well with some of the additional Chrome accents maybe already present on your truck. Now, I will say it does look very sharp when installed when paired with the factory chrome bumpers as you can see with our shop truck
And price aside, one of the better things about this product from Putco or one of the nice things about this product from Putco is again the ease of install. No drilling, no permanent modification needed whatsoever, in fact, you don't even have to open up a toolbox for this one guys, simply peel and stick and you're good to go, so it's a one out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter, maybe a few minutes from start to finish.
As with any peel-and-stick install here guys, the prep is going to be the big, most important part of the installation. You're gonna wanna first clean the area thoroughly using the supplied alcohol prep pads, just remove any dirt, grease, dust or wax from the area to supply or secure a nice, tight bond. Once that's all cleaned off, simply remove the protective backing on your 3M automotive grade tape already installed on the back of the cover, and then adhere carefully to your ride.
So again guys, if you already have some chrome going on with your Lariat, your King Ranch or your Platinum and you're looking to add just a little bit more for not a lot of money, then be sure to check out one of the Putco covers for your ride right here at americanmuscle.com.
