Review & Install Video
Hey, guys. Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, here with my detailed review of the PUTCO Chrome Door Handle Covers, available for all 2015 and up four-door F-150s. Now, the big things I'm going to hit in this video, guys, is what you can expect when it comes to construction with the PUTCO covers here, the overall impact to your styling when installed, and what it actually takes to get these things installed onto your truck. Now, overall, guys, you can expect a very simple peel-and-stick job here, one out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter. And we will walk through the install in a little bit more depth in a minute.
But first, guys, I feel like this kit from PUTCO should appeal to the newer F-150 owners out there who simply like the look of chrome and would like to add a little bit more flash to their rig but for not a whole lot of money. Now, in fact, guys, this is one of those things that's gonna add a big impact, in regards to the styling of the truck, but for a relatively small investment, which is something I think should appeal to just about everyone.
All right, guys, but first, let's quickly talk about construction. Now, these things actually start off as a durable piece of automotive-grade ABS plastic, they are not metal. And then they are finished off in PUTCO's chrome plating process, which as you can see, really does result in a beautiful chrome finish and one that should match the rest of the chrome on your truck pretty nicely. And that's why these are really gonna be a great choice if you are looking to add a little bit more flash to your truck, maybe match a factory chrome grille, set of mirror caps or wheels, whatever.
On the other hand, guys, if you have a more basic rig and you wanna add a higher end look that oftentimes comes with a chrome accent, then these will be a great fit for you as well. And PUTCO is definitely gonna be one of the top companies you should look into if this is the route you're after because they've been doing this stuff for nearly four decades now. Chances are they produce a part to help achieve the look you're after.
These parts are backed by PUTCO's one-year warranty against any general construction or finish defects. And again, since these things are ABS plastic and not metal, you shouldn't have to worry about them rusting while installed on your truck. I will say, when installed, these things will make a sizable impact to the styling of your truck. In fact, seeing them on a ruby red shop truck, they really do jump out at you. And again, I can only imagine that would be amplified on a darker color F-150. So if chrome is your thing, these things would definitely be a solid choice.
Another big reason why these would be a great choice for you is the price. For under $50, you're getting four handles and four buckets, making this a great bang-for-your-buck mod. And that really is a testament to PUTCO, in general. They do produce some pretty quality stuff here, but for the most part, at very affordable prices, which is always nice when you're looking to mod your truck.
Now, I do wanna point out, guys, that you have some options when you're shopping the PUTCO handle kits here at AM. For instance, you can grab the handle covers, which is the top portion here, or the buckets separately by themselves, if you like, on the site. I do also wanna point out, and this is very important, that if you have an F-150 with the built-in lock and unlock feature or sensor into the door handle, PUTCO does make a separate cover available for that you can grab on the site. It's gonna allow for full functionality of that sensor, will add to the price slightly of the kit. No matter what option you do decide to go with, all PUTCO handles do include a driver side keyhole to be used for the driver side door.
Now, I do have one very small nitpick with the PUTCO covers here, and that's basically the line left between the bucket when installed. Now, the buckets are actually two separate pieces, and it's designed that way to make for a very easy install, which it does. However, when installed, you do see the smallest line, again, between these two panels here. Not terribly noticeable, but again, something I did wanna point out.
As I mentioned at the top of this video, guys, this is a very simple peel-and-stick install here, no tools needed whatsoever. So expect a very soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Now, PUTCO does a great job with designing, measuring, and producing these products, and therefore, they're gonna fit like a glove. And that's only gonna make your life easier when it comes time to get them installed.
The prep is definitely gonna be the big, important part of this install here, guys, again, as these things are adhered using 3M automotive tape. So bust out those alcohol prep pads and thoroughly clean the area first before getting started. Once everything's all cleaned up, go ahead and grab one half of the bucket, remove the protective backing on the 3M automotive tape, lift the handle, and then slide the bucket into place, adhering it along the way. Repeat the process for the second half of the bucket, and then finish off with the cover themselves, and you should be all wrapped up in 30 minutes from start to finish.
Wrapping this one up, guys, if you're a big fan of that chrome appearance and you'd like to add a little bit more flash to the door handle area of your 2015 and newer F-150, PUTCO makes a great-fitting, affordable kit that will help you achieve that look. And you can grab it right here, at AmericanMuscle.com.
