No cutting or slicing needed!
After getting the dreaded 3rd brake light water leak that seems to affect many of the 09-14 F150's, I set out on trying to figure out the best solution. I could have "mickey moused" it and applied clear silicone around the stock lens and had a quick, cheap, fix, as a lot of youtubers recommend but I didn't want to cut corners or have to cut it all off and reapply it if I ever needed to replace a burnt out bulb. I could have purchased an OEM light but didn't want to deal with this same leak again in 5-6 years. The Recon or Anzo brand lights looked nice, but I didn't want to have to cut and slice wiring to make it work.
This light, while a few dollars more expensive, than other aftermarket LED's or the OEM replacement was the only aftermarket LED light that I could find that was truly plug and play. Unscrew the stock lens, remove the stock bulbs, and plug in the leads from the Putco light and reassemble. The installation took approximately 3 minutes. A very easy install and the light looks great! I've had it on my truck for over a week now. We've had a quite a few down pours in the Pacific Northwest, and there has been absolutely no water leaking into the cab. The seal is much thicker than the stock OEM one and the LED's are so much brighter than the stock incandescent bulbs.
The only negative that I can find is that the cargo lights while much brighter, don't shine into the bed quite the way the stock lights did, however I hardly ever needed that function.
I'm very happy with this product and glad I spent the extra dough to fix it correctly. I highly recommend the Putco 3rd brake light!
