Review & Install Video
Hey, guys, Justin with americanmuscle.com here with my quick review of the Putco Chrome Lower Tailgate Accent available for your 2015 and newer F-150. This review's gonna cover a few basic topics here, guys: basically what you can expect when it comes to the construction of the lower accent, what it's gonna do from a styling aspect, how much it's gonna set you back and finally what it's gonna take to get installed onto your rig. And in true Putco fashion, guys, this is another simple peel-and-stick job. That means one-out-of-three wrenches for you guys at home and I'll have more on that a little bit later.
Now who is this product going to be for? Well, basically for anyone out there who believes more is more when it comes to chrome and wants to add a little bit more bling, maybe a little bit more flash to the lower tailgate area. Pretty obvious statement here, guys, this is not a functional part in any shape or form. Purely aesthetics here. So with that out of the way, let's dive a little deeper.
As for the construction of the Lower Tailgate Accent here from Putco, guys, well, it's pretty simple, as you might expect. They start it off with a durable and lightweight stainless steel. Again, very nice material. And then they finish it off with their traditional chrome plating and if there's one thing that I can say for Putco is that their chrome plating process is done right. They've definitely got it down to a science at this point. They've been around forever and it really does show in the results here. The finish is beautiful, it's flawless and that's what you've come to expect from Putco.
As far as what to expect when installed when it comes to your styling, guys, I will say it's very hard to miss the Putco Lower Accent here when installed on your F-150 and it definitely will be more amplified or a little bit more visible on darker colored trucks. Now we actually installed it on our ruby red SuperCrew here at AM and it actually looked really good. It surprised me a little bit. I didn't think it was gonna look that good personally and that truck has no chrome on it whatsoever. So with that being said, I think this thing would look even better on trucks with some chrome accessories already in place, whether stock or aftermarket. As far as impact to your wallet, guys, the Putco Lower Accent here will set you back right around 100 bucks, which some of you guys might think is a tad excessive given what this part is, but that's just what we're looking at here. I will say Putco does a great job of designing and measuring all of their parts, as this thing will fit really well when installed.
Well, guys, like I mentioned up top here, this is going to be a very simple peel-and-stick install. You won't even need to open a toolbox for this one, so let's call it a very soft one-out-of-three wrenches on the difficulty meter, maybe a few minutes from start to finish. Now Putco actually ships the lower trim to you with the 3M automotive tape already installed on the back of the panel, which is gonna make your life a little bit easier in the process. With any stick-on part, the important aspect of the install is definitely going to be the prep here, guys, so make sure you go to town with the included alcohol prep pads and just make sure the area is nice and clean, free from any dirt, dust or wax. Once the area's all clean, simply remove the 3M backing from the Putco panel, align it carefully and then adhere to your truck and that's pretty much it.
As far as my final thoughts on the Putco Lower Accent here, guys, while it might be a little pricey given what this thing actually is, if you're a big fan of chrome, it's definitely gonna add to the look of your truck and it's also gonna add some very unique styling to an otherwise boring area. So be sure to check one out for your ride right here at americanmuscle.com.
