Review & Install Video
Hey everybody, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com and this is my detailed review of the Putco Black Platinum Door Sills available for your 2015 and up SuperCrew F-150. In this video, I'm gonna talk about what you can expect with the Putco door sills as far as basic instruction, the functionality improvements, if any, where they're going to land on the price scale, and finally what it takes to get them installed. You'll be happy to know guys, these are a very simple peel and stick job, so one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and we'll have a little bit more on that later on. This is another product from Putco's premium black platinum lineup and should appeal to just about any F-150 owner out there looking to add some more protection when used with the factory door sills or even a set of aftermarket door sills. Now, these things are going to cover an area that are pretty much naked in stock form and will add a little more bling in the process while not totally destroying your wallet.
So, anyone that's been around the truck scene for the last few years or last few decades has probably seen or heard the name Putco. That's because they've been around forever making a wide variety of truck accessories. A lot of chrome stuff, but recently they've been expanding their lineup a little bit. They've included some additional lighting accessories and now, their black platinum series, which is going to appeal to the high-end truck market.
Now because Putco is gunning for a more premium market with their black platinum lineup, they are going to incorporate more premium materials to help justify the slightly higher costs. And that's certainly the case here when looking at their door sills. You're looking at thin gauge 304 grade stainless steel with this product, guys, finished off in Putco's near finish gloss black. Pretty much the signature of any black platinum product. Now, personally I'm a big fan of the black platinum coating or finish here. I think it looks really sharp and it should look good on just about any rig out there.
However, I do have one small nitpick and it's that this finish is going to show everything from fingerprints to water spots. You name it, it's going to show it. So, you'll probably find yourself wiping these things off quite a bit if you're a little OCD like myself, but on the plus side the finish itself is really durable.
Construction aside, what can you expect from a functionality standpoint? Well, these guys are gonna mount directly beneath the plastic factory door sills and again, cover an area that's pretty much left uncovered in factory form in an area that can take a beating. Whether entering your truck with work boots on or just general wear and tear. Putco acknowledged that and came up with a rather attractive, somewhat affordable solution.
And I say generally affordable because if you're familiar with the Putco black platinum lineup, then you know that the price is sometimes a little higher than their usual lineup. And that's just a function of the quality of materials and the unique black platinum finish. However, these four door sills are only going to hit you for around 50 bucks, which really isn't that bad whatsoever. In fact, anytime you can get a quality mod for under a hundred bucks, well, you should be pretty happy.
The install's another area which is a big plus when checking out the black platinum door sills. As we mentioned earlier guys, no drilling, no permanent modification. You won't even need to open up the toolbox for this one. Instead you're going to do everything through the pre-installed 3M automotive tape already located on the back of each panel. Now, you're definitely going to want to take your time here and nail the prep work because a solid prep job overall is only going to extend the life of this product from an installation standpoint since again, this is a peel and stick job. So, go to work using the included alcohol prep pads. Make sure everything is nice and clean first before getting started with the door sills. Once everything's all cleaned off, simply remove the protective backing on the 3M automotive tape and carefully adhere it to your truck.
Again guys, anyone can knock this one out, so we're going to give it a soft one out of the three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Maybe 30 minutes from start to finish. The Black Platinum Door Sills from Putco are a very unique product that does offer some additional protection to an often-overlooked area and will improve the appearance at the same time. So, be sure to check out an option from Putco for your F-150 right here at AmericanMuscle.com.
