Balances Exhaust Gases. This Pypes catted x-pipe balances out the gas pressures in your exhaust system to create more power and torque than a traditional H-pipe. Why? Because the exiting exhaust pulses are merged at the "X", resulting in less exhaust back pressure for more power.

Durable Stainless Steel Construction. Pypes uses sturdy 16 gauge 409 stainless steel mandrel bent 2.5" tubing for improved flow and features welded reinforcement plates for additional strength. The included Catalytic Converters are build from polished 409 stainless and feature a durable Ceramic substrate material making them perfect for naturally aspirated applications.

Application. This Pypes Catted X-Pipe is designed for use on a 1998-2004 V6 Mustangs in combination with an aftermarket or factory dual 1999-2004 GT catback exhaust system.

if i add pypes catted x-pipes can i install flowmaster thunder catback with it

    • Definitely! This Catted X-pipe combined with the 99-04 GT Flowmaster American Thunder Catback would work great together. As a side note, this mid-pipe will allow you to install any 99-04 GT catback of your choice. Hope this helps!

I have seen this X-Pipe (XFM39) listed on other sites to also fit a 1996 V6. Is this the case?

    • Unfortunately, this Pypes Catted X-Pipe is specifically designed for use on 1998-2004 V6 Mustangs and will not fit a 1996 V6.

I have the flowmaster 40 series dual exhaust installed, will this x-pipe work with my setup?

    • The Pypes Catted X-Pipe will not fit on the Flowmaster force II exhaust as this would still be the Y-pipe and would not connect to the X-pipe.

If Mac boom exhaust for 1998 v6 and this x pipe, do I need to use the cats that come with the x pipe? Or can I go without? What would that do if I did?

does this system come with the sleeves to insert in the pipes to connect them to the heads on a v6 like it shows in the installation write up

    • The Pypes Catted X-Pipe for a 98-04 V6 should include the required (2) small sleeves for both mounting points at the headers.

Are these cats NY compliant because i was reading online that only some cats are NY compliant and i need cats that won't affect me when getting my inspection done please guide me the right way i plan on using this with bbk shorty headers on my v6 mustang 03

    • This mid-pipe would not be CARB compliant no. If you state follows closely to Carb complaint rules then this will not pass.

Night and Day: The difference is incredible

Before I begin, I'd just like to say I was able to try this X-Pipe without the cats. One of the benefits was that the exhaust was louder. Let me tell you... IT WAS TOO LOUD. The X-Pipe without the cats was so loud, I was afraid to hit the gas pedal. It was insane. The exhaust note without the cats didn't sound bad, but it was unstable and out of control. The sound was too broad and overwhelming for my taste. Going by cops wasn't fun either because it makes too much of a scene and they will ticket you. Once I put the cats on, the exhaust was PERFECT. The sound and pitch was controlled, and the volume was silenced just enough. Trust me, this exhaust wont be quiet with cats on (I do have straight mufflers with the X-Pipe so this may have an effect whether or not you want cats or not). The throaty vibration makes the V6 sound amazing. It doesn't sound closed and it sure doesn't sound narrow. It brings a very pronounced articulation to the road. Performance wise, the X-Pipe makes the V6 really become another kind of pony. If you have a need for speed, the X-Pipe is just for you. It's MUCH easier to go fast especially at higher RPMS. The Y-Pipe struggled to hit higher speeds, but this X-Pipes thrives in doing so. The sound this X-Pipe makes compared to the Y-Pipe is unbelievable. It's much more aggressive and definitely has a true racing vibe. The X-Pipe really blows away the Y-Pipe in comparison to sound, performance and style. It's just better. Period. #NoRegrets

      Pypes X pipe cat system

Must say that The Pypes set up is with out a doubt the best exhaust System on the market for the 3.8 liter V6 in a Mustang. I also bought BBK Shorty Headers that this bolted right up to. It is full 2 1/2" system with no restriction and I exited into Borla mufflers true dual system together with cold air intake system and MSD Ignition Brick my v6 Stang Rocks!!!

      Definitely a better flow

I can hear a better flow with the x pipes and the cats give it a little bit more of a rumble

      Good quality

I put these on my 2000 v6 Mustang. I did it up on ramps, actually a pretty easy job with the right tools. Only hard part is my manifold bolts stripped so I had to buy a reverse spiral socket for stripped bolts and it worked like a charm. I paired this up with the sr performance catback exhaust. It is now really quiet. It looks amzing though. If you're thinking about buying it then go ahead. Highly recommended.

      great product

works great I had to cut a little more of then the instructions said to get it to fit in right but you have play in the cat for the down pipe(don't know if it because I have shorty's on it or because I couldn't get my exiting cat back all the way off but it is good fit. great product

I had a local shop install. I already had a flowmaster 40 series dual cat back exhaust, but only had a y pipe. By adding the x-pipe it increased the flow and now it has a nice growl to it. It sounds awesome but by no means does it sound like a V8 but I'm happy with the great improvement in sound and horsepower increase.

      Great sound

I was pleased with the Pypes X pipe, however, the install was tedious and more time consuming than I thought it would be because I had to cut the driver side down pipe so the mid pipe would fit onto the cats. Once I finally got the welds finished it sounded even better than my catted straight pipes though (made my 3.8 louder than a V6 should be).

      Pypes Catted X pipe (2000 mutang V6)

This product was a great addition to my V6. It sounds great and I believe it will sound even better ounce I install flowmaster mufflers. Aside from the sound, it gave me greater acceleration than the y pipe which it replaced and, it did not need oxygen sensor extentions when installed everything fit like a glove! I would and have recommended this product, as well as, other products I have purchased from Americam Muscle!

      true dual pypes exhaust

I've been wanting to add a custom exhaust system to my v6 mustang for a long time now. I probably spent over half a year reviewing my different options, but when it came down to it the pypes dual catback exhaust along with the catted x-pipe converstion system for v6s was the best solution. The sound is loud and crisp, about as close to a v8 as I could get and that was exactly what I was looking for. I highly recommend it!

      2004 V6 pony

I would like to thank AM for distributing this package as quikly as possible. Pypes will deffinetly need to roconfigure the manufacturing fittings for this product. The piping the connects to the headers sre too long. maybe they sould shorten them and extend the x-pipe for tighter flush against the under carriage keeping the car from scrapping. I did all the work myself and now I will have to take to garage for all the loose ends.

      BUYERS BEWARE!!!!!!!!

To start American Muscle is awsome and there customer service is great. Pypes on the other hand is very bad. I had bought the catted X-pipe back in march 2009 with an SLP setup. The mechanic I payed to put it on had a tough time getting the X-pipe to fit and he barely got it on. In April of 2010 my check engine light came on and was told that I needed to replace an oxygen sensor. It is know February 2011 and I replaced my oxygen sensor, but my check engine light is still on and the real reason its on is that one of my catalytic converters is bad. With the catalytic converters being under warranty still (5 year warranty), I called Pypes. I told them the problem and they said they would replace it all I had to do is Email them my order invoice and phone number and they would mail me a new one for $15.00 shipping cost. That was 3 weeks ago and I sent them 20 Emails and have tried to call them about it and the person on the other line keeps giving me the run around. I did finally get a hold of someone yesterday and they argued with me that I had to send them the defaulted part before I get a new one. But my main concern was that he told me, "The ceramics inside the catalytic converter's ware down after a few years and its normal." I of coarse would never had bought them if I'd known that and know I'm just trying to warn people about there horrible buisness. I am not going to put some crap on my car and am ordering SLP cats instead. Pypes is a terrible company so buyers beware.

      Awful Fit

This thing fits horribly. The downpipes are too long, The flanges don't fit snug to the header flange, The X section doesn't line up with anything, and without using a lift to install it you're almost guaranteed sagging. Would strongly recommend finding another solution before using this midpipe.

      Great Sound; Tough Installation

First off, GREAT SOUND ON A V6!!! I installed this pipe (with cats) this past weekend along with BBK chrome shorty headers and a Flowmaster American Thunder Catback with Super 40 Series mufflers. I never thought my 6 banger could sound this great. The shipping was fast, and I got everything AM promised me. Unfortunately, I had problems installing the x-pipe, and this is the only reason I am giving it 4 stars instead of 5. It took two other guys and myself about an hour or so to get the pipe to line up and slide the cats and pipes together and get the clamps on. Either take your car to an exhaust shop for the installation, or be ready to wrestle with it for a while. Also, after you get all the pieces together MAKE SURE you put a floor jack under the x-pipe and lift it up before you tighten up all of the bolts, or you'll have some SERIOUS clearance issues (I didn't do this at first, and I only had about two inches of clearance). After all is said and done, I am more than happy with the sound and performance coming outta my car. My dad and uncle could not believe it when I showed them my car. We put it next to my dad's 96 impala SS (has an LT1 V8 and flowmaster exhaust) and my v6 is louder! Thanks AM.

      Installation Issues

This is my experience when installing it on a 200 Mustang GT Convertible with stock manifolds. The product itself is well constructed and fairly easy to install. There are a couple of issues worth mentioning though. First off even if you install the included downsized flange on the driver side when installing this kit. On a stock exhaust you will experience leaks! I tightened it with a two foot breaker bar until my insides were about to pop and still had a leak. The problem was resolved by my going to a local muffler shop where they found that the factory studs have a fixed spacer preventing the pipes from fullly sealing correctly. They had to remove the factory studs and put in standard studs. Which incidentally cost me $100.00. Finally my car stopped sounding like it was ready for nascar. The second problem is with the placement of the gasket on the passenger side. Initially everything was fine, but after two weeks of driving and some of it was quite spirited. The passenger side started leaking making my car sound like I'm ready for nascar again. What I did to resolve the problem was double up on the gaskets on the passenger side and tighten it with the same two foot breaker bar. So far so good but we'll see how long it stays quiet. Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the nice sound of a performance exhaust, but not when it sounds like open headers and the cops keep pulling me over for violating the local sound ordinance.
