    Review & Installation Video

Hey, I'm Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and this is our powerpack Bolt-On Build-Up for all 94-98 Mustang GTs. Now before we get started, we're well aware of the fact that the 94-95 GTs came equipped with the 5.0 motor before eventually being replaced by the modular 4-6 in 1996. So, with that said, all the parts used here on our '98 today, will not apply to those earlier years, but the idea remains the same, to increase the power. So that's why we put together a pack of parts that should help our GT breathe a lot easier, in turn making for some more horsepower and torque, all while making for one mean exhaust note. Now, before we get started on our car, we need to grab a quick baseline number, and then hand that over to the crew to get everything installed.

    Description

Balances Exhaust Gases. The Pypes Off Road X-Pipe is excellent when it comes to balancing out the gas pressures in your exhaust system. This Pypes off road x-pipe creates more power and torque than a traditional H-pipe. Why? Because the exiting exhaust pulses are merged at the "X", resulting in less exhaust back pressure for more power.

Race Car Growl. This free flowing Pypes x-pipe for the 1996 to 1998 GT's not only increases power, but it also adds a raspy, race car growl to the sound of your exhaust with its modern "X" crossover pipe design.

Modular Construction. Pypes unique three piece modular construction makes it quick and easy to add or remove catalytic converters to your exhaust system in just minutes, depending on your driving needs.

Durable Stainless Steel Construction. Pypes uses sturdy 16 gauge 409 stainless steel mandrel bent 2.5" tubing for improved exhaust flow and features welded reinforcement plates for additional strength.

Application. This Pypes Off-Road X-pipe is designed to be a direct bolt-on for the 1996 to 1998 4.6L GT Mustangs with either aftermarket short tube headers or the stock manifolds and a dual catback exhaust installed. Intended for off-road, track use only, does not include catalytic converters.

      X-pipe

Installation was pretty easy. The car sounds great with this addition, although the pipes do not fit correctly underneath the car. I am going to have to spend even more money to get the pipes bent in the correct location, as it makes a loud rattling noise while in idle.

      Great Volume

Definitely recommend a tune if you’re removing cats with o/r x but this woke up my exhaust entirely. People could hear me coming from down the road along with my SLP loudmouths.

      Looks and sounds great.

Went from straight piped (on car when I got it) to this x pipe and magnaflows and couldnt be happier. The x pipe really gave my 96 a nice tone.

      The Pypes

These pipes are a great fit, and so easy to install by your self like i did, a great replacement for bad converters, they have a real raw sound with flow master 40s. the only thing i see that's wrong with these are ,there isn't any hanger bracket to reconnect it back to the cat hanger. other then that they are Great. will this fit my stock exhaust system? Will the sound still be badass?

    • Absolutely! This Off-Road X-pipe will be a direct replacement for your stock mid-pipe on any 96-98 GT. Being that it removes your cats and it's an x-pipe, your Mustang will have an awesomely loud, raspy race car growl! You won't be disappointed!

concerning "modular" X pipe Hey guys, I was kinda wondering how exactly these pipes are modular? The description states you can cat these pipes within minutes to fit driving needs. I have these pipes on my car and the cats in the garage and dont see anyway of fitting the cats without cutting the pipes, am i missing something here???? Thanks

    • Yes, you have to cut a section of the pipe out.

I currently need to get my 98 gt state inspected but i have no catalytic converters with this exhaust setup. Will the high flow cats c-clamp right in with this exhaust or will i have to do some cutting? Thanks

    • Cutting would be involved if adding catalytic converters to this x-pipe, in order to retain the same length required for install.

Can I use the stock 02 sensors I already have or will they not fit the x pipe ?

    • You can absolutely re-use the original O2 sensors with this Pypes X-pipe.

right now i just have straight pipe,do i need mufflers or an exhuast system to make it sound the way it’s supposed to ?

    • With an x-pipe, you will get more rasp but if you wanted a different exhaust note/tone, we would recommend switching out the mufflers.
