    Review & Install Video

Hey, I'm Justin with, and this is our powerpack Bolt-On Build-Up for all 94-98 Mustang GTs. Now before we get started, we're well aware of the fact that the 94-95 GTs came equipped with the 5.0 motor before eventually being replaced by the modular 4-6 in 1996. So, with that said, all the parts used here on our '98 today, will not apply to those earlier years, but the idea remains the same, to increase the power. So that's why we put together a pack of parts that should help our GT breathe a lot easier, in turn making for some more horsepower and torque, all while making for one mean exhaust note. Now, before we get started on our car, we need to grab a quick baseline number, and then hand that over to the crew to get everything installed.

Balances Exhaust Gases. The Pypes Off Road X-Pipe is excellent when it comes to balancing out the gas pressures in your exhaust system. This Pypes off road x-pipe creates more power and torque than a traditional H-pipe. Why? Because the exiting exhaust pulses are merged at the "X", resulting in less exhaust back pressure for more power.

Race Car Growl. This free flowing Pypes x-pipe for the 1996 to 1998 GT's not only increases power, but it also adds a raspy, race car growl to the sound of your exhaust with its modern "X" crossover pipe design.

Modular Construction. Pypes unique three piece modular construction makes it quick and easy to add or remove catalytic converters to your exhaust system in just minutes, depending on your driving needs.

Durable Stainless Steel Construction. Pypes uses sturdy 16 gauge 409 stainless steel mandrel bent 2.5" tubing for improved exhaust flow and features welded reinforcement plates for additional strength.

Application. This Pypes Off-Road X-pipe is designed to be a direct bolt-on for the 1996 to 1998 4.6L GT Mustangs with either aftermarket short tube headers or the stock manifolds and a dual catback exhaust installed. Intended for off-road, track use only, does not include catalytic converters.

will this fit my stock exhaust system? Will the sound still be badass?

    • Absolutely! This Off-Road X-pipe will be a direct replacement for your stock mid-pipe on any 96-98 GT. Being that it removes your cats and it's an x-pipe, your Mustang will have an awesomely loud, raspy race car growl! You won't be disappointed!

concerning "modular" X pipe Hey guys, I was kinda wondering how exactly these pipes are modular? The description states you can cat these pipes within minutes to fit driving needs. I have these pipes on my car and the cats in the garage and dont see anyway of fitting the cats without cutting the pipes, am i missing something here???? Thanks

    • Yes, you have to cut a section of the pipe out.

Will this fit a 97 cobra?....

    • Unfortunately, due to the design difference in the underbody and transmission of the 97 mustang cobras, this would not be a direct fit into that car.

Do you have bolt on mufflers for this pypes xpipe? Thanks, Paul

    • Mufflers do not normally connect directly to the Xpipe. You would be looking for a cat back exhaust system to complete your exhaust.

Currently have a stock exhaust set up, would I be able to use my catalytic converter on this X-pipe setup?

    • The Pypes Off-Road X-pipe is not designed to accept the OEM Cats, and would require significant modification to fit them.

Will this work with long tube headers

    • These will not work with Long Tube Headers as this X-pipe is made for a stock length Shorty Header.

      Very intimidating

Sounds amazing, it is so loud! Im afraid I might get pulled over. It has a great tone to it though, its a deep, raspy, loping idle that gets Intimidatingly loud between 2-3k rpm. Rev could set off a car alarm. Sounds great if you downshift too. Still gives me chills. Turning heads everywhere I go. Can be heard coming from 1/2 mile or more. Small increase in hp. Easy install except for one stubborn rusted bolt. (When you get one, try going through downtown or through a tunnel!)

      1998 Mustang GT

A M A Z I N G ! ! ! This gives off that signature mustang tone. I am a high school student, I installed this x pipe in my auto class at school. Had this, and my CAI on withing three hours, thats including our twenty minute brake. This is just to show the honest ease of this. My car is a 98' GT so there was rust on the bolts. I had to use a tourch for the bolts off the manifold. Other than that, perfect direct fit. Now I am only running the x pipe for now, I love loud exhaust, but this is going to get me in trouble, so I would reccomend mufflers or high flo cats with this. Sounds sweet though, I love it. Must buy for all mustang lovers!

The stock H-pipe was difficult to take off, I had to remove the starter in order to get at the bolts off of the manifold due to the 6, that\'s right SIX cats my 1997 GT had. The X-pipe went on easy and sounds mean with the magnaflow magnapack cat-back exhaust system. Great Buy!

      Extremely LOUD!!!

Awesome price for a good hp n tq gain. only took about a hr to install due to already having the factory H-pipe already off quick n easy to install. Only spent about $10 in parts (bolts n screws) at my local hardware store in to install. I already knew it was going to b loud with my SLP LoudMouth mufflers but didnt expect it to be this loud!!! I LOVE IT

      X pipe review

Excellent product. I have installed several H and X pipes over the years and this one by far was the easiest. Fit was perfect. Took like 4 hours to get the factory one off because of the passenger side collector bolts being a pain. It took a impact wrench to get them off. After that the new one went on in like 30 min. the fit was that good. A tip would be to replace the metal collector gasket it is only 10 bucks. This pipe is louder than the previous ones I have put on. Kinda has that nascar sound.

      must buy for first timers

I bought these do to the fact that someone cut the cats out of my car. The reviews posted tell all. They fit perfect. It took a weekend because I was not sure what I needed. So some key notes. Pb spary was very effective when I came to the bolts that connect the mid pipe to the headers. You can do the job with a socket set , 3/8" universal joint, 10" extension and a wrench for the 02 sensor.since your not running cats you dont need the back o2 sensors. The only places I found bolts that will work is at ace hardware. Get the 18mm drain bolts there a perfect fit.

      Great sound

Always heard x-pipes was the way to go , after installing my 40 series flowmaster I could not hear a difference from stock because of the 6 cats under the car, so i got this pipe for my 98 gt and it was the sound i was looking for

      Sounds great

This exhaust sounds great with my magnaflow cat back. You can feel a little boost in performance as well. I went from a 14.624 @ 90.16 to a 14.419 @ 91.47 after installing just the x-pipe. I had it professionally installed for under $100 after I saw how far up the passenger side bolts are. I did not get the MIL eliminators and it hasn't tripped the check engine light. I am planning on getting a tuner for it soon though.

Excellent quality but i had a slight problem after a few weeks the clips that holds the pipes together came loose while driving so i got it welded and that solved all.

All I can say is wow, from the minute I got in my car and fired it up after installing these bad boys I was grinning ear to ear. And sense my cats were falling apart it felt like I put a whole new engine in it. Highly recommended this!
