I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at Pypes polished long tube headers for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. These headers have been getting some very positive reviews here on the site thanks to their performance, and quality of fit and finish so let’s break them down. Long tube headers are designed to completely replace your factory exhaust manifolds which really restrict your exhaust flow. Basically by installing a set of long tubes you’re going to see an increase of horsepower and torque at the rear wheels. The first thing you’ll notice is that the headers are made from 304 grade stainless steel and feature mandrel bent tubing throughout to really increase that exhaust flow. Now one thing I took note of immediately was the quality of the TIG welds, you’ll find great penetration at both the header flange, and the collector which means the quality of the welds are going to be very good and very strong to prevent cracking in the future. Sometimes on lesser quality headers the welds can be poor, resulting in premature wear and cracking. Another thing which gets a big thumbs up from me is that all the welds on the inside of the header have been smoothed out to reduce turbulence and increase air flow, even down to this massive collector which has been smoothed out as well. Not only will that polished stainless steel look great under the hood, but it’s also going to resist corrosion so these headers remain looking good for years to come, especially when they get the chance to heat cycle a few times when that silver turns into a very cool copper color. This is a pretty intense install here guys so if you don’t have the mechanical know how to tackle the job, then I would recommend taking it to your local ‘shop so they can install these headers properly. However if you’re confident enough to tackle the job, I would definitely leave yourself a full day to get the job done properly. A big thing to point out when installing these Pypes long tube headers, is that you’re going to need the Pypes Off-road H or X pipe, to get everything bolted up properly. That’s because the dimensions of these aftermarket long tube headers are different to your factory meaning they’re not going to bolt up to your stock mid pipe, or even an aftermarket regular length mid pipe, and that is why you need the shorty H or X pipe to make these headers work correctly. What you can expect when using Pypes polished long tube headers is a noticeable power gain over your factory exhaust manifold or even a shorty setup as well. You’re also going to see increased throttle response, and a slightly more aggressive exhaust note, especially if you decide to go with one of those off-road H or X pipes.
