    Review & Install Video

I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at Pypes polished long tube headers for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. These headers have been getting some very positive reviews here on the site thanks to their performance, and quality of fit and finish so let’s break them down. Long tube headers are designed to completely replace your factory exhaust manifolds which really restrict your exhaust flow. Basically by installing a set of long tubes you’re going to see an increase of horsepower and torque at the rear wheels. The first thing you’ll notice is that the headers are made from 304 grade stainless steel and feature mandrel bent tubing throughout to really increase that exhaust flow. Now one thing I took note of immediately was the quality of the TIG welds, you’ll find great penetration at both the header flange, and the collector which means the quality of the welds are going to be very good and very strong to prevent cracking in the future. Sometimes on lesser quality headers the welds can be poor, resulting in premature wear and cracking. Another thing which gets a big thumbs up from me is that all the welds on the inside of the header have been smoothed out to reduce turbulence and increase air flow, even down to this massive collector which has been smoothed out as well. Not only will that polished stainless steel look great under the hood, but it’s also going to resist corrosion so these headers remain looking good for years to come, especially when they get the chance to heat cycle a few times when that silver turns into a very cool copper color. This is a pretty intense install here guys so if you don’t have the mechanical know how to tackle the job, then I would recommend taking it to your local ‘shop so they can install these headers properly. However if you’re confident enough to tackle the job, I would definitely leave yourself a full day to get the job done properly. A big thing to point out when installing these Pypes long tube headers, is that you’re going to need the Pypes Off-road H or X pipe, to get everything bolted up properly. That’s because the dimensions of these aftermarket long tube headers are different to your factory meaning they’re not going to bolt up to your stock mid pipe, or even an aftermarket regular length mid pipe, and that is why you need the shorty H or X pipe to make these headers work correctly. What you can expect when using Pypes polished long tube headers is a noticeable power gain over your factory exhaust manifold or even a shorty setup as well. You’re also going to see increased throttle response, and a slightly more aggressive exhaust note, especially if you decide to go with one of those off-road H or X pipes. Check them out today at AmericanMuscle.com.

Increase horsepower and torque. A set of Pypes V8 Long Tube headers will greatly improve your S197 Mustangs exhaust flow over the restrictive factory manifolds and will increase your pony's horsepower and torque for better throttle response.

Quality Construction. Pypes Long Tube Exhaust headers are constructed from free flowing CNC mandrel-bent 1-5/8" 304 stainless steel tubing and are then completed in a bright polished finish for great looks and long life.

Recommended Upgrade. To realize the full power potential that these Long Tube Headers have to offer, AmericanMuscle recommends a custom tune with a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for proper operation.

Application. Designed to fit the 2005-2010 GT Mustangs. These Pypes Long Tube headers will require the use of Pypes shorty style X-pipe or H-pipe for proper installation on your 2005-2010 Mustang GT.

Technical Note. Not legal for use on pollution controlled motor vehicles; intended for off road use only. Both header bolts and gaskets are included for this item.

Can I use a stainless works H pipe along with this product? It recommends a shorty but I was curious if I could use the normal size off road H pipe.

    RyanP

    • The Pypes Polished Long Tube Headers will only work with Pypes brand shorty Mid pipes. Due to the more custom nature of long tube headers, every brand puts the exits in unique locations, meaning they will only work with a matching mid pipe that is designed for this exit location A full length mid pipe cannot be used as the header exit location has been drastically changed with long tubes.

I have the pypes off road x pipe with the stock manifold. With I be able to reuse it with these long tubes?

    j

    • The Pypes long tube headers will require a shorty mid-pipe to guarantee proper fitment as long tubes will not work with factory length mid-pipes. Pypes does offer a shorty x-pipe for their headers which can be found here: https://www.americanmuscle.com/pypes-shorty-xpipe-0510gt.html.

I know some header setups don't exactly mesh with a Supercharger. I have these headers and they sound phenomenal but eventually want to get a Supercharger. Will there be any problems going forward with this?

    Joe

    • With out know what supercharger you are going with I can not 100% confirm any issues that may arise. Most long tube header work great with most superchargers. Feel free to call or chat in so we can discuss your exact setup.

What about ground clearance? I have an 06 GT convertible, lowered 1.5" all the way around. Will I have a clearance issue with these long tubes? Also will my pypes cut and clamp X pipe fit?

    David

    • Long Tube Headers do generally sit lower than factory headers and will provide less ground clearance. If the roads near you are very bumpy and you have concerns about ground clearance, we would recommend a skid plate to protect the runners and the collector.

I'm looking at these for my 07 Roush 427r. I currently have stock cats, frpp x pipe and Roush extreme exhaust. If I loose he frpp x pipe and cats and add these headers with the shorty off road H pipe will I still be legal in NY? I never had a car with no cats, what kind of troubles can I expect? Will it pass inspection?

    Grabber427

    • Every State's Inspection and emissions testing programs are different. We recommend checking with a local emissions inspector to verify the legality of these mods in your area, however most areas will require catalytic converters to pass emissions.

      Sinister sound

I Had this paired with their off road-h pipe and the exhaust note is super loud outside. If you put effort into keeping it quiet around the neighborhood it can be done.My mechanic installed it after 6 hours, an hour and a half of that time due to a broken header bolt. No problems other than that during install and my mustang definitely gets moving easier. Highly recommended if you find yourself hesitating on purchasing it.

These sound, perform, look, and fit great. I would not recommend a novice installing them though. It's a lot of work and time consuming, but so worth it in the end.

      Awesome Headers!

Got these headers with the Pypes H-Pipe and Borla ATAKs and wow, just wow! The fitment is tight as you have to remove the motor mount brackets on both sides, my shop had little trouble doing so while the car was on a lift. These headers woke the car up like no tomorrow. They are insanely loud and throaty. Deep muscle car rumble at low RPM and as you approach 3K RPM it gets really loud. WOT is insane and could wake the dead. Get yourself some Ford Performance gaskets and save yourself the stress of the provided aftermarket gaskets failing in a couple months. Love these headers! Can really feel the increase in low end torque as the car pulls up to shifting range and powers on up to higher RPM. Worth every penny!

      Best headers for the price!

Out of the box they have a gorgeous polished polished look, arrived on time and in mint condition! Took them to a shop to get them installed and in total with the installation of the headers and the mid pipe took about 5 hours worth of labor, but man is it worth it! When I pulled up to the shop to pick it up, I could hear it rumbling from a good distance away! The technician said that these were one of the best fitting headers he has ever dealt with and the performance gain is awesome, you can definitely feel it in the "butt dyno". All in all, these headers are amazing and for cheaper than just about every other set of headers out there besides the cheap pacesetters and barely more expensive than MAC. Can't beat it!

      Great job Pypes

We have been extremely impressed with the quality of the fit and finish on these headers. Sound with Cat delete H-Pipe, Series 40 Flowmaster's, as well as hot rod cams in 4.6 3V is outstanding. You will not be disappointed! On a side note my headers came missing one collector bolt, washers and nut. I called AM and said they would take care of it. In about 3 to 4 days I received a box strait from Pypes. This box contained full set of mounting hardware including gaskets!!!!!! Great job AM and Pypes.

Awesome headers but rough to install.

Just wanted to mention that no one in my town would touch these headers with and off road mid pipe. (not sure about onr with cats). Apparently EPA has some pretty stiff regulations for modifying exhaust. I did the install myself but the included gasket went bad and I got a heavy leak. most likely from my poor installation I job. I didn't want to do it myself again, but couldn't find anyone willing to work on them. My set also didn't come with new bolts (or i lost then) and the manufacture bolts are a big pain with these headers given the length of the bolt. I just ordered the Ford racing gaskets and plan on tackling the leak this weekend with new bolts as well.

Have a week put aside for install!

The quality is spot on. Now let's get to the install part. I'm sure you will find many combination's of colorful words you did not even know existed during this tortuous process of putting the headers on. My Mustang GT only has 8,000 miles on it with no rust anywhere and it was a pain in the tail! All shop's I contacted wanted $800.00 to start plus unforeseen problem's, most estimating the bill to roll in over $1,100.00. My only suggestion is to use 6-Ton jack stands as you will need the 24" height, and plenty of Days allotted for this DYI project.

      Holly loud

Wow there loud and look great under the hood. Install was a headache but someone with some mechanical ability should be able to get it done. Do one side at a time and remove the motor mount on the side your working on then jack the engine up as high as you can. Took me a few days just doing it after work. 100 worth it

      Perfect!

If you're looking for a perfect set of headers that won't break the bank then look no further! I had no issues with fit or finish. Everything fit perfect. The only problem I had was with the h pipe. Where the manifold pipes slip into the h pipe they're were no relief cuts so neither side would tighten up with the clamps. No matter since I welded them anyway. It's just something to watch out for.
