    Review & Install Video

I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at Pypes polished long tube headers for the 2005-2010 Mustang GT. These headers have been getting some very positive reviews here on the site thanks to their performance, and quality of fit and finish so let’s break them down. Long tube headers are designed to completely replace your factory exhaust manifolds which really restrict your exhaust flow. Basically by installing a set of long tubes you’re going to see an increase of horsepower and torque at the rear wheels. The first thing you’ll notice is that the headers are made from 304 grade stainless steel and feature mandrel bent tubing throughout to really increase that exhaust flow. Now one thing I took note of immediately was the quality of the TIG welds, you’ll find great penetration at both the header flange, and the collector which means the quality of the welds are going to be very good and very strong to prevent cracking in the future. Sometimes on lesser quality headers the welds can be poor, resulting in premature wear and cracking. Another thing which gets a big thumbs up from me is that all the welds on the inside of the header have been smoothed out to reduce turbulence and increase air flow, even down to this massive collector which has been smoothed out as well. Not only will that polished stainless steel look great under the hood, but it’s also going to resist corrosion so these headers remain looking good for years to come, especially when they get the chance to heat cycle a few times when that silver turns into a very cool copper color. This is a pretty intense install here guys so if you don’t have the mechanical know how to tackle the job, then I would recommend taking it to your local ‘shop so they can install these headers properly. However if you’re confident enough to tackle the job, I would definitely leave yourself a full day to get the job done properly. A big thing to point out when installing these Pypes long tube headers, is that you’re going to need the Pypes Off-road H or X pipe, to get everything bolted up properly. That’s because the dimensions of these aftermarket long tube headers are different to your factory meaning they’re not going to bolt up to your stock mid pipe, or even an aftermarket regular length mid pipe, and that is why you need the shorty H or X pipe to make these headers work correctly. What you can expect when using Pypes polished long tube headers is a noticeable power gain over your factory exhaust manifold or even a shorty setup as well. You’re also going to see increased throttle response, and a slightly more aggressive exhaust note, especially if you decide to go with one of those off-road H or X pipes. Check them out today at AmericanMuscle.com.

Increase horsepower and torque. A set of Pypes V8 Long Tube headers will greatly improve your S197 Mustangs exhaust flow over the restrictive factory manifolds and will increase your pony's horsepower and torque for better throttle response.

Quality Construction. Pypes Long Tube Exhaust headers are constructed from free flowing CNC mandrel-bent 1-5/8" 304 stainless steel tubing and are then completed in a bright polished finish for great looks and long life.

Recommended Upgrade. To realize the full power potential that these Long Tube Headers have to offer, AmericanMuscle recommends a custom tune with a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for proper operation.

Application. Designed to fit the 2005-2010 GT Mustangs. These Pypes Long Tube headers will require the use of Pypes shorty style X-pipe or H-pipefor proper installation on your 2005-2010 Mustang GT.

Technical Note. Not legal for use on pollution controlled motor vehicles; intended for off road use only. Both header bolts and gaskets are included for this item.

        5 Top Rated Questions

when installed can I tune it with my sct tuner or do I have to take it to a tuner around me?

        • These require a custom tune, SCT devices cannot tune for them with the pre-programmed tunes.

        is a tune required?

        • We highly recommend getting a tune when installing long tube headers on the vehicle.

Can I use a stainless works H pipe along with this product? It recommends a shorty but I was curious if I could use the normal size off road H pipe.

        • The Pypes Polished Long Tube Headers will only work with Pypes brand shorty Mid pipes. Due to the more custom nature of long tube headers, every brand puts the exits in unique locations, meaning they will only work with a matching mid pipe that is designed for this exit location A full length mid pipe cannot be used as the header exit location has been drastically changed with long tubes.

I have these on my car and love them. I did not know the SCT tuner wouldnt tune these...? BAMA should have stated that! Will the o2 sensor plug in to these? Or a sensor spacer? My o2 sensor was removed so i need a spacer added so the check engine light doesnt keep coming on.

I have Pypebombs but the rest of my exhaust system is stock from the previous owner. If I wanted to get long tube headers would I need to purchase an X pipe or anything else?

        10 More Questions
I am interested to find out what other parts I need for a complete installation. I understand that this header requires the same brand of mid-pipe; however I do not see the option for a Pypes off road H-pipe. Is this something you carry? If so can you give me item number for ordering purposes. Thanks Layman 1 answer

            Amazing product

These headers completely change the feel and experience driving your mustang! Install only took about 8 hours in my garage and it was 100 worth the work and time. You will need to find some crafty ways to get the passenger side stock manifold bolts out and pull a few tricks to squeeze the driver side header in. And be prepared to have to drop your oil pan and pop your dipstick out if you can’t wiggle it out. Other than that the norms check engine light will come up because of the O2 sensors. 10/10 would recommend for every 3v owner.

            Pypes FTW

I had these headers laying around for a while now and decided it was time to finally get them in. I went to my local exhaust shop and they had them in within a day with no problems. Fit and finish were spot on. I feel a big power difference and the car pulls really hard. Have them paired with the Pypes shorty off road H- pipe for the old school rumble.

            Great Headers

These headers added both the sound and power I was looking for. I matched these headers with the off road h-pipe and got that deep muscle car sound I was looking for. As far as performance, the gains are noticeable all around but mostly above 3,500rpm. Fitment was great with no issues at all. I highly recommend them!

            Sinister sound

I Had this paired with their off road-h pipe and the exhaust note is super loud outside. If you put effort into keeping it quiet around the neighborhood it can be done.My mechanic installed it after 6 hours, an hour and a half of that time due to a broken header bolt. No problems other than that during install and my mustang definitely gets moving easier. Highly recommended if you find yourself hesitating on purchasing it.
