Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, Adam here with americanmuscle.com. Today I'm bringing you a quick overview and installation of the Raxiom Headlight LED Conversion Kit with 893 bulbs which is available for all '87 to '04 Mustangs. So in this video, I'll be going over the styling, appearance, and benefits of switching to the LED conversion kit for your headlights from Raxiom as well as all the materials and construction that goes into the kit. I'll top the video off with the install, which I'll let you know up front, gets a very simple one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter because after all you're just swapping light bulbs. The Raxiom Headlight LED Conversion Bulb Kit will be for any '87 to '04 Mustang owner who's looking to swap out those factory incandescent bulbs for a brighter cleaner more attractive look all while gaining a lot more visibility. Now I myself am an SN95 owner, and I can tell you first hand that those factory incandescent bulbs really, they just don't do the trick. I mean, you're visibility is not so great, they're not that attractive, they can kind of yellow over time, so the LED conversion kit is honestly a no-brainer in my personal opinion. By picking this up, you switch from those factory incandescents to a bright, high-powered, power saving, LED technology that not only is a lot brighter, it's a lot whiter, burns a lot better and of course lights up the road a lot better. Now with that power saving technology will come a higher price tag since LED conversions are a lot pricier than the factory incandescent bulbs. Now in my personal opinion, it's all the more worth it simply because they last a lot longer, they burn a lot brighter for better visibility, of course, safety is always an issue, and on top of that, they're more attractive and more white. Now with that more white technology you are looking at a 4K color output from these which is not something the incandescent bulbs can boast. Now speaking of that price tag, this will come in right around 100 bucks if you want to pick them up for your new edge and your headlights. Now like I said that's a lot pricier than the factory incandescent, but it's all the more worth it since it lasts so much longer. Now I know I just said that but I want to push that point because I actually have these installed on my own '95 Cobra and I think these make the world of difference, not only with the styling but of course with visibility. Now the good thing about an LED conversion is that it does not require any work at all, all you have to do to get these installed is pop open your hood, twist off your old factory incandescent bulbs, unplug them from the wiring harness and set those aside. Now with these, they will twist right in your housing exactly like the factory ones do since they are 893 style bulbs which are the exact same style as your factory options. So once you twist these in the housing you will connect the resistors included for you in the kit to the back of the LED bulbs and then the other side into your factory wiring harness, a direct plug and play installation. That's one of the best things about this kit is that it's so easy to install. You can get this one done with absolutely no hand tools involved. And I'd say about ten minutes at the absolute maximum. I'd definitely give this a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Just to wrap things up here, if you're the owner of an '87 to '04 Mustang and you're looking for a brighter, cleaner and more attractive finish upfront as far as lighting is concerned, you might want to check out the Raxiom Headlight LED Conversion Bulb Kit which is available right here at americanmuscle.com.

Will these work with item 49093

Nate

  • We do apologize, the Raxiom Headlight LED Conversion Bulb Kit will not work with the Axial Black Altezza Tail Light(Item: 49093). They are designed specifically to fit the headlights for 87-04 Mustangs. Unfortunately they do not meet the bulb specification for the Altezza Tail Lights.

Has anyone else had a problem with the retaining ring not fitting over the larger heat sync? I can't seem to find a replacement... can someone help me out if they have had this problem as well?

  • We have found that with the Raxiom Headlight LED Conversion Bulb Kit and other LED bulbs, it is sometimes necessary to trim the retaining rims to clear the heat sinks.

I put this headlight LED convertion kit on my 2003 Mustang and it works perfect at night. The only problem was about my daytime running lamp. I live in Canada and the law oblige us to have daytime running lamp. Now, my daytime running lamp doesn't work with this convertion kit. Why?

Fastang

  • Daytime Running Lights (DRLs) work by operating the headlamps at a lower power than normal headlight operation. this will be lower than the minimum required to activate the LED bulbs.

These bulbs don't seem to fit with the headlight retainer clip for the standard bulbs in my 2000. Is there anything to keep them secure in the headlight housing?

DanL

  • With the Raxiom Headlight LED Conversion Bulb Kit and other LED headlamp bulbs, it is sometimes required to clearance the retaining ring, especially with the taller height retainers.

    Huge improvement in brightness

Love the brighter whiter lights at night. Just a few issues though to install though. There are no instruction included. I had to buy a different retaining ring to mount the lights because the heat sync on the LED's is too big to use the stock ring. There also doesn't seem to be much of a difference between brights and dims but I think that is because your dims are that much brighter now that there isn't much difference between them now. I submitted an install guide so hope it gets posted to help others with an easier way to install.

Bought these last week thinking they would be good for my smoked lights. Threw them on the day before my night drive from NC to GA and I must say I'm not impressed thus far. My silverstar Ultras are better than these lights. More importantly, you loose your high beams with these, not cool. Sorry American Muscle but this one is a bust, normally I have no issues with any of the products you guys provide.

    Worth the 5 Minute Install

Installation was very straightforward. Take out the old lights, plug these LEDs in, and zip-tie everything up. Getting the O-ring into the housing took a bit of time, but with a little bit of grease, it popped right in. These bulbs allowed me to keep the trashy sleeper exterior by not having to change the lights themselves while making it actually possible to see at night.

Dont be tricked like I was!

This is my first review in the attempt to stop people like me from buying this LED conversion. I have been moding cars for years and have to say this is one of the worst represented parts I have purchased. 1. The retaining ring on the OEM head lights can NOT be used to secure these lights into the housings. There is NO way to slip the ring over the front of the rear of the bulb. This means the O ring alone holds the light in. 2. You can not rotate the lights to position the LEDs on each side of the bulb in a very usable spot. The LEDs are positioned up and down. They should be left and right but there is no way to rotate them without breaking the tabs off the OEM head light assemblies. 3. Oh the glare! If you dont mind blinding people driving at you without putting out much more usable light them OEM, then these are the lights for you. I will be putting down money for a true hand made projection beam retro kit and just lick my wounds on this one.

    Raxiom LED Headlights

I have the smoked headlight lens, so the halogen lights are really dim and couldn't see much at night. Switched to Raxiom LEDs, and definitely a lot brighter. Worth the money.

    LEF Head lights

The LED headlights are sooo much brighter that Sylvania Silverstar Ultra bulbs. Two downsides: 1. When the lights are on, there is signal interference on the radio. There is no signal noise cancellation. They should have included some magnetic ferrite cores to cancel the interference. They can be bought online... Make sure you get quality ones where you can loop the wires through twice. 2. The high beams are barely noticable. They just seem to make the low beams brighter. I think it may have to do with using them in stock headlight housing... Since there is a reflector cone inside that may be diabursing the high beam light. They may work better with Halo projector housing since there nothing to block the light. Note I have not tested this.

    Great lighting option

I wanted a little bit more light when driving at night, so I tried the Raxiom LED conversion kit. It really brightened up the headlights. I gave it 4/5 because when you hit the high beams, there's a delay, as well as some fitment issues when you install them.

HID Look / Visibility at fraction of cost

I ordered these replacement bulbs as I have always been curious about changing my headlights out for quite some time. I wanted something I could easily install myself, and something that was not HID because personally I do not think HID's are what I want. Since there were not really many other options, I first bought a pair of HALO Projector Headlights from AM, which looked great, but the low beams were way too dim and I could not see. When I saw these bulbs I knew it was something I had to try so I ordered a pair. Installation takes no more than 15 minutes, just pop the old bulbs out, twist off the LED bulb's retainer and pull it off first. It should slip right off. Pop the retainer into your headlamp housing first, then screw the mounting piece on first before installing the bulb. Then it's as easy as plugging in a few things and you're ready to go. These bulbs WOW'ed me on first use. They are so much brighter than I would have imagined, it's comparable to HID output, however at a fraction of the cost and much easier maintenance. I have not yet attempted to use these with the Halo Projector housing, but with OEM Style Smoked housings these bulbs have excellent night-time visibility. They produce a cool, white light, maybe a slight blue hue to some viewers, and are definitely an improvement over the yellowish light most halogen bulbs produce. They are also a direct replacement of your old bulb so the fit and finish should be spot on if you installed them properly. My only issue is with the highbeams - With my specific vehicle, when I activate the highbeams they tend to stay on for a bit longer than they should, and the deactivate at different times, by a fraction of a second, but it is noticable that they flick back to lowbeam at a different time. This isn't a big deal, and is actually more likely to be vehicle specific as I have done many mods to my electrics, including mods to the headlight wiring, So this MAY NOT be a problem for you. 5 Stars across the board except 4 stars for Appearance for this minor highbeam flicker. Strongly recommend this product if you do not want to go the HID Route but still want that HID look.

    Great but...

These are really bright and the description on them is true. They feel really high quality as well. Make sure the headlight assemblies you plan on putting them in are exactly like the stock assemblies. I ordered these with the Smoke OE Style Headlights: http://www.americanmuscle.com/black-headlight-amber-99-04.html and they won't install properly. The smoked headlights have a different installation method than the stock mustang headlights. Instead of pushing the bulbs in and twisting, the smoked headlights require you to press the bulb in and then take another piece and put it over the bulb and you twist that piece to secure the bulb in place. The piece you use to secure the bulb in place will not fit around/over the bulb to secure it in place. Actually, the ballast wont even fit through the piece, so that you could use it to secure the bulb. Even without totally securing the bulb into place, the bulbs still fit tightly, so i'm only slightly worried about it, but i'm sure it will be fine. I hope. If I knew these couldn't be used with the smoke oe style headlights, I would have probably either got a different set of headlights, or maybe HIDs instead.

    Not Satisfied

I have the AM smoked lens covers on my Mustang. I installed the rather expensive Raxiom LED bulbs and found them to be very dim. I sent pictures to customer service and was told that the light output looked about right with the lens covers. I now have expensive bulbs I can't use and AM won't let me return them. :( I found LED bulbs elsewhere that are brighter and cost less.

    Far superior to stock lighting!

Packaged greatly,No more yellow halogen look. Has a very clean white light. They are more then twice as bright as silver star lamps. Everything fits snug more so then the stock setup, everything is as advertised took a minute to realize the bulbs dissconect to allow the retainment rings to go back on. I'd deffinetly recommend these lights to anyone with a new edge. Love the way the mine look! 5 min install having never changed lights before. No directions or it would have been faster, great product American muscle.
