Review & Install Video
Hey, what's going on, guys? Adam here with americanmuscle.com. And today, I'm bringing you a detailed review of the Raxiom Stage 2 Interior Lighting kit in Cool White fitting all '15 and newer S550 Mustangs. So the Raxiom Stage 2 Interior Lighting kit is the perfect way for all S550 owners, whether it's GT, V6, or Eco to improve the overall lighting quality and appearance of the interior of your Pony. Now, this kit will include cool white-colored LEDs to replace the factory incandescent bulbs in your map light or dome light, your glove box, your trunk, and your vanity lights in your visors.
To give you an idea of the Stage 2 kit's brightness compared to your factory bulbs, your incandescent bulbs in the vehicle now are rated at 35 lumens each, whereas the Stage 2 kit is rated at 92 lumens each. Now, not only will this offer a brighter light but they'll also replace that factory yellowish color with a better whiter light overall to give you a better appearance for your Pony.
Now, as opposed to light distribution, it is already pretty good in the vehicle but upgrading to the Stage 2 kit you can get even better, giving you better visibility especially useful at night. Now with that said, the Stage 1 kit is rated at 55 lumens each, as you can see this will be brighter than the Stage 1 kit from Raxiom as well. They really all come down to your preference and how bright you'd like your interior to shine.
Now, one of the best things about the Stage 1 kit aside from the interior appearance and lighting is the installation. Now, the installation is extremely easy at 100% plug-and-play, which means there'll be no cutting, splicing, or resistors required. The map light, trunk, and glove box are all the same at 194 HP3 bulbs, and the vanity lights are a bit smaller to fit in their housing at a 74 SMD1, but they all give off the same 92 lumens each.
Now, considering that this is an LED conversion kit, you would think that the price would be fairly high, but that's not the case here. Raxiom offers the Stage 2 Interior Lighting kit I have here today for just about $50, making it an extremely affordable way and simple way to replace those bulbs in your interior to get a better appearance and overall visibility. Now, as I mentioned, Stage 1 is also available but just not as bright of a light, that comes in just shy of $40, so there's really not a big price difference for the brightness in the lights, it really just comes down to your personal preference.
Now, to kick off the installation, we'll start at the map light. For the first off, you'll have to remove the map light by pulling down the assembly by the two clips on the back. I want you to get it off, just swap the bulbs out, and pop the housing back on the assembly.
For the vanity mirror installation, you may need a small flat-head screwdriver to pop the covers off from the bottom edge closest to the mirror. Once you get those off, unscrew the two screws close to the cover, pop it off from the top, swap the bulbs out, put everything back together as simply as you took it off.
So the glove box bulbs can be done one of two ways. Some may find it a little difficult to gain access to the bulbs just by popping open the glove box. Some might find it a little easier to pop open that secondary hatch to gain access to the bulbs that way. Either way, you'll just unscrew the bulbs and pop in the new ones and close everything back up.
Now, the trunk installation might require a bit more work but it'll still be simple enough. You'll need a flat-head screwdriver to pop the housing out from the left side, the right side won't work because that's for the wiring harnesses. Once you get the left side off, you want to unplug the wiring harness, swap the bulbs out, plug the wiring harness back in and pop the assembly back into the housing, and you're all set.
When everything's set and done, you're looking at spending about 15 to 20 minutes on the installation making it an extremely no-brainer, I would definitely give this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Now, just to quickly wrap things up, guys, if you're the owner of a '15 or newer Mustang and you're looking to improve the overall lighting quality and appearance of the interior of your Pony while going a bit brighter than Stage 1 kit, you might want to check out the Stage 2 Interior Lighting kit in cool white from Raxiom available right here at americanmuscle.com.
