Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, Adam here, with americanmuscle.com. Today, I'm bringing you a detailed overview and installation of the Roush Cold Air Intake Kit, fitting all 2015 and newer 2.7 Liter EcoBoost F-150s. In this video, I'll be going over the functionality and benefits you can expect from swapping out your factory air box for a Roush kit we have here, as well as all the materials and construction that tie into it. I'll top the video off with the installation, which I'll let you know upfront here, is gonna be one of the easiest things you can do to your engine of course, so it will get a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. The Roush Cold Air Intake Kit will be for any 2015, or newer, 2.7 Liter EcoBoost F-150 owner who might be looking to swap out the factory air box for a new and improved aftermarket air box from a very well-known brand in the aftermarket world, while also picking up a couple of horsepower and improved throttle response, all while staying 50-state legal, as well as not requiring custom tune. So the first thing I wanna touch on is the no-tune-required option. Since your 2.7 liter does utilize a speed density instead of a mass airflow, the changes to the computer happen on the fly, whereas the mass airflow would require a custom tune. And since you don't have to pick up a custom tune, that saves you a couple of hundred bucks in the process, so it does make this a direct bolt-on mod. So bolt it right on to the engine, you'll see performance differences immediately, something that you can bolt up and just go. And since it is 50-state legal, I do want to point out this is great for the guys out there in California, or emission restrictive states, looking to pick up an intake to pass their inspection. I do want to point out the 2.7 and 3.5 engines are the only options out there that are 50-state legal, so if you're running a 5.0 or anything bigger, you might want to check out some of the other options, because these will not pass. Jumping over to the really important stuff here, the materials and construction, now, as you can see, this Roush filter is going to be a huge upgrade over the factory option. Roush has manufactured this in a very specific way, giving it a multi-cotton gauze, superior filtration system here with a wire mesh in front just to keep out all the dirt and particles that we don't want getting into the engine bay. In addition to that, this is something that will be washable and reusable, so all you have to do is pop it off when it's filthy or when it's clogged up, wash it out, re-oil it, pop it right back on. Saves you money in the long run as well, because you won't have to constantly replace the filter every couple of thousand miles. In addition to this 6-inch filter I just mentioned before, this is gonna include injection-molded polypropylene materials for the tubing and air box, all withstanding heat and staying durable over time, so it is something that is also gonna be an upgrade over the factory materials. Because of the materials, that all factors into the performance benefits from swapping this out with you factory option. Now, swapping this out, you'll see improvements as far as throttle response is concerned, getting off the line just a little bit quicker with acceleration. You might hear a little bit more aggressive engine sound, but I do want to point out it's not gonna make the world of difference when it comes to horsepower and torque gains. Expect single-digit gains at best, even if you decide to pick up a custom tune, which can help maximize that potential. As far as the pricing goes, expect to be spending just shy of a $300 mark, something, in my opinion, that falls right in the middle of the pack as far as 2.7 and even the 3.5 EcoBoost are concerned. There are a lot of options out there as far as cold air intake replacements, but, in my opinion, the Roush option is gonna be one of the better ones as far as materials and construction, right up there next to the Airaid an

Increase Horsepower and Torque. Completely replace your 2.7L EcoBoost F-150s restrictive factory air box and paper filter with a Cold Air Intake Kit from Roush Performance. Featuring a red high flow filter assembly and a black intake tube, this CAI provides an increase of horsepower and torque, while improving throttle response and fuel mileage. Not only will this CAI provide an increase in power, but it will also add an aggressive performance sound to your truck.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Cold Air Intakes on the market for the F-150s, this Roush CAI does not require a computer re-tune. The engineers at Roush Performance really did their homework to improve your truck's power using the factory tune. However, AmericanMuscle recommends the use of a Handheld Tuner to see even larger power gains.

Reusable High Flow Dry Filter. The included Roush High-flow Dry Air Filter provides excellent filtration of harmful particulates. It is composed of two layers of wire mesh for durability and is proven to retain its shape even under high airflow. This dry air filter is washable and does not require oiling, saving you time and money.

Straight Forward Installation. The Roush Performance Cold Air Intake Kit is designed to install easily with just basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for proper installation. All necessary parts and instructions are included.

Application. This Roush Performance Cold Air Intake Kit is specially designed to fit the 2015 to 2017 F-150s equipped with the 2.7L EcoBoost engine.

Technical Note. This Roush Cold Air Intake is not legal for use in California or other states adopting California emission standards.

What are the benefits of adding the cold air intake? I asked this question in the wrong area, with exhaust. Sorry, John

  • A cold air intake will allow larger volumes of air to enter the engine, typically with lower intake air temps.

  • Unfortunately, this Cold Air Intake is not compatible on the 2017 Raptor. Roush is actually in the process of developing a Cold Air Intake specifically for the Raptor.

    Great design

The 2015-17 f150 Roush CAI is a better design than than the previous model for the 2012-14 F150. This CAI comes with a complete air box and the air filter is a lot bigger. You will only see minor performance increase. Like most CAI for the F150s, it doesn't require a tune. If you want to get the most out of any CAI I recommend that you do get a tune.

    Surely Worth The Purchase

I would definitely recommend this CAI for anyone owning a 3.5 EB. Installation was fairly easy with no hiccups the way along. At startup you can obviously hear the difference when you push the accelerator with the hood open. In cab you can hear the air filtering more through the tubing and more turbo sound as well; pretty unique sound. With windows open you can hear the turbos clear as day. Do note that I have the Roush Cat-back exhaust which complements one another. You can feel the extra power at the wheels with a clean throttle response compared to stock; it's not HUGE but really noticeable.

Very pleased with this purchase. Installation was extremely simple and only requires basic hand tools. As with most Roush products, instructions aren't included with the product but it gives you Roush's website with step by step instructions as well as with pictures. Goes great with my Roush Cat-back exhaust. Noticed a slight increase in sound and power between 3000-5000 rpm

Great Sound and Performance, fit and finish OK

This intake gives the truck a great sound and I would easily believe Roush's claim for hp and torque improvements. That said, the fit and finish did not meet my expectations, lots of plastic flashing and prevalent seam lines from manufacturing make the kit feel cheap and the air box does not fit tightly around the dirty air scoop/ram air inlet or the clean air tube so it ultimately will pull in a little hot air from the engine bay. Still the performance and sound outweigh those minor grievances

Was pretty easy to install. I have the 5.0. It made a little bit more power and maybe a little more sound under the hood. I run muffler delete and It sounds a hair louder than it was before. I think the tuner would wake it up a little more.

    Added performance

Adding the Roush intake to the existing Roush exhaust has made some more HP and gains on throttle response and overall performance. I'm impressed by the overall gains from the intake and I also like the look and style of it. It's the largest intake that I've seen in a vehicle, but it goes very well with the amount of open space in the new 2016 F-150's engine bay.

    Not worth what it cost

I bought this thinking, Roush is gonna be better than KandN or anything else. To be honest I think it's over priced. Yeah it did make my engine sound louder but the quality of sound, isn't the best. It sounds like it echos if that makes any sense. It did improve my gas mileage, which is the reason I personally bought it. I didn't get an extreme increase but it did go up 1mpg city and 2mpg highway. Ford factory intake does the job just as good.

    Great sound

People think they are in a race car when I slam down the peddle. No throttle body and this thing sounds just as good as my buddies v8 and he has a kandn air intake with a throttle body. Don't know if it improved performance. If it did then it was minor. Easy to install. Had to replace a tube that attaches to the sensor bit took me about an hour to install.
