Tune Required for Some Options.
You can use the factory calibration for the Roush Cold Air Intake by installing the supplied insert and reusing the 85mm bore stock MAF. If, however, you want to use the 105mm MAF that the housing is made to accept, then the ECU will need to be flashed with an appropriate aftermarket tune. This will enable the CAI to function at its full capacity in terms of horsepower, torque, throttle response, and fuel economy.
Reusable Wire-Strengthened Filter.
The filter used in the Roush Cold Air Intake is made from red synthetic fabric, reinforced with a buttressing system of wire mesh that forms two internal layers, an inner and an outer. This helps increase the longevity of the filter. The filter element can be removed, washed, and reinstalled when it starts to get dirty, sparing you buying a new element. No re-oiling is needed (oil-free design).
The Roush Cold Air Intake is built from tough but light materials for a combination of practicality and endurance. Featuring a mostly black finish, the red filter and brightly polished stainless steel clamps provide some eye-catching contrast. The heat shield and air box is CAD designed for maximum hood sealing, keeping hot air away from the filter. The tube has sleek mandrel bends for high, unrestricted flow. Both parts are manufactured out of polyethylene plastic (injection-molded in the case of the air box).
Can Use 85mm or 105mm MAF (Your Pick).
Roush’s Cold Air Intake offers a MAF housing with a difference – a choice between two different MAF bores depending on how much power you want. The housing, as-is, is designed to support a 105mm aftermarket MAF (not included). However, there’s also an insert that constricts the housing down to the 85mm diameter of the stock MAF so you can reuse it, losing a bit of power but avoiding the hassle of re-tuning your truck’s engine.

This variant of the Roush Cold Air Intake has the CARB EO Number D-418-30, making it street-legal for use in California. In order to pass inspection, the intake must have the included CARB compliance sticker attached either to it or to a nearby surface where it’s clearly visible. The component is 50-state legal and can be used on roads, streets, highways, off-road trails, or the track anywhere in the United States, making it useful for driving in both CARB and non-CARB areas.
