    Hey, guys, Stephanie with americanmuscle.com here with a review of the STEEDA IRS Subframe Braces for 2015 and up Fastback Mustangs. We're gonna talk about a few different topics when it comes to these subframe braces but mostly we're gonna talk about the construction and the functionality of these braces and the install as well. I'll get into more detail later, but I can tell you right now that the install for these braces is easy. You're looking at a one out of three wrenches in the difficulty meter since these are a direct bolt-on item. The STEEDA IRS Subframe Braces are gonna be something that you should check out if you're looking to minimize some of that rear subframe movement and combat some of the wheel-hop that's notorious with the S550s. We all love getting power to the ground and that's kind of hard to do with so much rear subframe movement and wheel-hop, but these braces are designed to eliminate the deflection in the rear subframe that the stock bushings allow for. So just looking at these on the table here, these have a three-point triangular design, with the general idea behind these being stabilization through tying together three chassis points, the lower control arm and tow link mount area, the rear subframe and the frame rail. Now these are three areas that are very strong naturally, so tying them together gives a good base of support for the rear subframe. And keep in mind that the rear subframe is really only four bolts, so that leaves a lot of room for improvement. The other thing that I wanted to point out here is that these braces are going to utilize existing holes. This leads to two good things, one is that you won't have to do any type of modification to get these installed, and they're direct bolt-on upgrade. And two is that since you aren't modifying anything, you're just adding support, you're not going to be adding any NVH to the ride quality of the car. Now these are tubular Chromoly steel, and they're also powder-coated silver, which you're not really going to see unless you're under the car, but the powder-coat does give some corrosion resistance. Keep in mind that while these braces are going to work to reduce wheel hop and keep the rear planted better under load, these are only one component of the IRS and there are a handful of other pieces and options that you can look into depending on what you want to do with your Mustang. What I like about these is that they aren't going to create any additional noise or harshness in the suspension. I'd say that these are a good foundation-building mod in the sense that they help you set your Mustang up for the performance that you expect out of it. As far as price, these braces are right in between $200 and $300, and right now these are the only one of their kind that are available. You don't have another brand that's offering the same type of product so there's nothing to compare it to price-wise, but I will say that this does happen to be one of the less expensive options out there when you look at other options on how to reduce wheel hop. When it comes to the install here, it's really pretty easy. Overall, this is a one-wrench install on our scale and should take about just an hour to complete. The braces are side-specific and can only go one way, but we're basically looking at a few nuts and bolts. You need a few sockets, a ten millimeter Allen key and a torque wrench for sure since all of the bolts will need to be torqued down. Wrapping things up, the STEEDA IRS Subframe Braces are gonna tie in three points of the chassis to help stop rear subframe movement and help put some power to the ground and avoid some wheel hop.     What would be the difference between attaching these braces vs. SR Performance IRS Tie Down Kit?

    • The Steeda IRS Subframe Braces are designed to brace the rear subframe and prevent the subframe from flexing in relation to the unibody. The SR Performance IRS Tie Down Kit is designed to prevent flex at the bushings for the IRS mounting. While both will work toward a similar goal of reducing wheel hop, they do so very differently. The braces will provide the largest reduction in wheel hop.

    Do these go over or under the Steeda Ultralite jacking rails?

    • The Steeda IRS Subframe Braces don't use the same mounting points as the Steeda Ultralite jacking rails. They do not interfere with each other so you could install them any order you like.

    I have the Ford Performance X-pipe with the side exit exhaust that exits just in front of the rear wheels. Will this fit with that exhaust installed?

    • The Steeda IRS Subframe Braces would interfere with the Ford Performance Boss Style X-Pipe and Side Exhaust due to their similar mounting locations.

      Decent braces, some engineering issues

      The subframe braces were well put together, but one of the holes in the body mount was misaligned, requiring me to oval out the hole to make them fit. Steeda also decided to laser cut their logo into the brace mount beside one of the frame mount holes, creating a weak point and resulting in the tab being bent at that point when it was delivered to me.

      Simple but very effective design

      Decided to go with these on my S550 after having to remove the Steeda IRS bushing inserts because they move my pinion angle on my differential which I just had rebuilt. It caused my new DSS one piece driveshaft to vibrate. Another reason for installing these is because I had to also remove my SR Cradle Lockout kit because the left brace didnt line up causing it to damage the cradle bolt to strip. After my shop removed and replaced my OEM cradle plates i decided I still wanted to stiffen and eliminate rear wheel hop i went with these Steeda Subframe Braces. And these were easy quick to install and they really do stiffen up the rearend. No noticeable wheel hop. I would recommend these instead of the Cradle Lockout Kits.

      Perfect fit!

      These subframe connectors were a breeze to install. Only problem I had was no washers were included with the hardware. Wheather they're necessary or not (instructions said to use washers) I ran to the hardware store and got stainless ones for all the bolts. I highly recommend getting the middle bolt started first and then get the fronts and backs in. Tightened everything down to the torque specs with some blue lock tight and in conjunction with the Steeda jacking rails, my 17 GT PP handles amazing. This is a must have for all S550 owners. Another amazing product from Steeda.

      Tight fit!

      Took a little bit of a struggle to get the driver side installed especially the bolt closest to the front of the Mustang. Passenger side went smoothly. Overall just a tight fit. Installed with the black spacers.

      Wheel-hop no more!

      I have to say I was unsure how these braces would tighten up the car but after the install all doubt was washed away when I launched the car for the first time. Even one the wonderfully un-grippy stock tires, the car planted and there was zero wheel hop. Does not impact the ride of the car just stiffens the rear when accelerating. Install was a sinch, was able to use a couple ramps and was done in less than an hour.

      What corner-tire hop

      These it's subframe connectors are great. Beautiful silver paint that matches my 2015 5.0. Sturdy during fast take off and launch. Cornering at high speed feels so much tighter. And the torque support will indeed stop my rt qrtr panel from moving any closer to my door from the 399 ft lbs or torque this beast is producing. Great bolt on performance item.

      This is your first installed to your mustang S550. The vehicle drive completely like i have installed new sway bar, it will take turn way better feel tighter to. Another great product from Steeda.

      HUGs!!!

      Follow the directions! Start with the middle nut. Had the car jacked up on stands one side at a time; therefore, did not need to make any adjustments in regards to the subframe bolts. Everything aligned perfect. Definitely notice a huge improvement in handling! Hugs corners better and during acceleration less loose end feel!

      These IRS braces do the job, they stiffen up the rear end quite a bit and lessen the wheel hop. I had no problems installing these, I did it by myself in my garage with a jack and stands. I just made sure my car was level. It took me 45 minutes
