Review & Installation Video

Review & Install Video

Hey, guys, Stephanie with americanmuscle.com, here with my overview and an install of the Steeda cold air intake, available for the 2015 and up GT Mustang. This overview is gonna cover a few topics with the Steeda intake, like what you can expect from this intake, some info about the components and construction, and some info about the install. The install for this is a simple one, it's a one out of three wrenches on the scale. But I'll get more into that a little later on. The Steeda cold air intake is gonna be for the S550 GT owners out there that are looking for a cold air intake that maintains the direct cold air feed from the grille of the car, and that does not require a tune. Aftermarket cold air intakes are a popular mod, but there are a few different choices out there between airbox styles and filters. The Steeda here is an open-element-style intake, but it does have this housing, which is a touch different than most other houses out there. The Steeda's gonna come with a few pieces. You have your air filter, your inlet tube, clamps, a coupler, a MAF housing with a restrictor insert and your heat shield. It's gonna come with all the necessary hardware that you need to get this intake installed. Now this is a no-tune-required intake as long as the restrictor insert is installed, but once you remove this insert, you will need a tube. As far as the factory intake goes, it's actually really nice. It's highly functional and isn't as restrictive as you might think, but what we tend to see is that aftermarket cold air intakes tend to function a little bit better than the factory intake in the upper RPMs, and especially after some mods have been completed. The Steeda here is one of the more basic designs though, since it is an open-element filter, but it does maintain that cold air feed from the grille, which is gonna help boost its performance. It doesn't have a closed airbox, but the heat shield is functional and it comes with a rubber gasket seal to keep the hot engine compartment air out of the airbox. Like I said, this intake does not require a tune as long as the restrictor insert is installed, so it's one of the intake options that you can just bolt on and go if you want to. Normally, an aftermarket intake would require a tune if the MAF housing size is much larger than the factory one, so a computer tune would be required to recalibrate. But in this case, it's not needed unless you open up the MAF and remove that insert. I will say, though, that you're only gonna see gains of a few horsepower if you don't pair the intake with a tune. Taking a look at some of the components of the intake, the air filter is a reusable, oiled filter. It's made from layers of nanofiber, and screens for durability and filtration. So the oil is used to treat the nanofiber, to give it a tackiness and give it the filtration abilities that it needs. What's nice about the reusable filter is that you can clean the filter when it gets dirty and reinstall it, and not have to worry about having to purchase a new filter every time. When it comes to the intake tube, this is the Steeda ProFlow intake tube and it gives you the option of retaining the factory sound tube, or blocking it off completely. Now, this is a little bit different than other aftermarket cold air intakes that normally don't give you an option like this. Looking at the price for this intake, you can expect to pay close to the $400 mark for the intake. Now like I said, this intake does have some features that most other aftermarket cold air intakes don't offer, like the restrictor insert, the C&C MAF housing, and the choice to block off the factory sound tube or keep it. But if you're thinking this is too much for you, there are other cold air intake options on the site that are less expensive, but they just won't have these features. As for the install, it's nothing too difficult. And like I mentioned earlier, the intake will come with all of the items that you'll need to complete the install. All you really need to finish the install are a few basic hand tools. This is probably one of the easier mods that you can tackle with your new Mustang, and it'll take about a half hour or an hour, tops. I'm gonna call this a one out of three wrenches on the scale. All that you really need to do is remove the factory airbox. You'll have to disconnect the airbox from the inner fender, and remove the inlet tube from the air filter in the throttle body. We're just talking about a few bolts and clamps to get this done. The Steeda installs nearly the same way that the factory airbox came out, so the install's pretty much the same as installing a factory intake. Just put on your new couplers and clamps, and slide the air filter and shroud [SP] into place, and then tighten everything down. Wrapping things up here, this intake from Steeda does not require a tune as long as you have the restriction insert installed. Once you remove the insert, you open up airflow to the MAF, and a tune is required. This intake is also gonna look better under the hood than the factory airbox does, has a reusable filter that's easy to clean and reinstall when the time comes. You can check it out more online right here at americanmuscle.com.

Increases in Horsepower and Torque. Replace the restrictive factory air box and paper filter of your Coyote powered 2015-2017 GT Mustang with a Steeda ProFlow Cold Air Intake for impressive rear wheel increases in power and torque with no tune required.

No Tune Required. Unlike other Cold Air Intakes on the market for the Coyote powered Mustangs, the Steeda CAI does not require a computer re-tune when installed with the included "Restrictor Insert". The Restrictor Insert can be removed for off-road use when combined with a custom tune. By utilizing state of the art computer-aided designs, Steeda Cold Air Intakes offer unmatched fit, finish and power!

Unique Design. Steeda engineered their intake to retain the factory cold air ducting from the front grille for optimal air flow. A soft, durable rubber gasket is included to seal the Steeda air box tight against the hood. This prevents hot air from entering the intake for noticeably lower intake temperatures. The ProFlow intake tube features a provision to retain the factory sound tube, but also includes a block off cap for those looking to delete it entirely.

CNC Mass Air Housing. This ProFlow Cold Air Intake features a precision CNC machined mass air housing that provides the cleanest mass air signal available on the market. A clean MAF signal results in smooth, reliable off-throttle to on-throttle response. Includes housing only, MAF sensor is not included.

Reusable Nanofiber Air Filter. Included with this Proflow Cold Air Intake is a high flow reusable nanofiber air filter, that provides excellent filtration of harmful power robbing dust particles. Seeing that the filter is reusable there is no need to buy a new filter every few thousand miles. You can just clean the filter, re-oil it, and reinstall - saving yourself money in the long haul.

Made in the USA. Manufactured in the USA from roto-molded high quality ABS plastic for outstanding durability and heat insulation, this ProFlow Cold Air Intake Tube provides smooth unrestricted airflow. The exterior of the intake tube features a fine satin texture finish that adds an intimidating appearance to your GT's engine bay.

Straight Forward Installation. The Steeda ProFlow Cold Air Intake Kit is designed to install easily with just basic hand tools. No extra modifications or special tools are required for proper installation. All necessary parts and instructions are included.

Recommended Upgrade. Even though a re-tune is not required for operation, AmericanMuscle recommends a Bama Custom Tune with a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU). This will help to get the best performance possible out of this cold air intake.

Application. This Steeda ProFlow Cold Air Intake System is specifically designed to fit the 2015-2017 GT Mustangs equipped with the 5.0L Coyote V8 engine and does not require re-tuning of the vehicles computer for operation when installed with the included restrictor insert.

Technical Note. This Steeda Cold Air Intake is not legal for use in California or any other states adopting California emission standards. Intended for off-road track use only.

Anybody have any idea of the horsepower and torque gains without a tune and with a tune?

asdfhjkl

  • The horsepower and torque gains that can be attained with this cold air intake will vary in every vehicle. There are many variables that would determine the amount of potential gains which is why we do not have a baseline gain listed.

  • Since your motor is newer, it will be more efficient, and you will yield better results with the Steeda ProFlow Cold Air Intake compared to a vehicle with more miles.

I got the steeda because it's a gurenteed 20 HP without a tune, all of the other ones won't post their specs just says "optional tune" with that being said this thing is pure awesome! Defiantly noticed a difference in performance, didn't notice a difference in sound. I'm not a mechanic by any means but I have worked on cars before and it still took me and my buddy 1-2 hours to install. And it requires cutting of your old intake which i was not expecting. Instructions are not that great, bigger more informative pictures would have been nice, they just printed them out. Would buy again tho!

A nice CAI for the price

It's a pretty nice kit especially for those that can't get their car tuned right away. The only complaint I have is the diameter between the aluminum and plastic tube are different making the silicone sleeve a little awkward. I had to remove it and tighten down the aluminum side first with it being smaller.

    BEST CAI ON THE MARKET

I've gotten other intakes before on past cars and rarely notice a difference, with the steeda I definitely felt a huge increase in throttle response and take off, the sound is amazing and the hp gains without a tune are insane!

    Great for looks!

2016 mustang GT. Very easy to install if you have the tools ready to go! 30-45 mins. Looks great under the hood, before I talk about performance I also installed an airaid poweraid TBS at the same time so it was a tighter fit for me but no issues. honeslty after driving it all night for 2 days I really didn't feel much power gains :( it does respond somewhat quicker tho in the lower rpm's. It does whistle loud! Let's not forget I also added a TBS so my review goes off both. A tune would help lol

This intake looks great under the hood, and fits very well. It opened up the motor a little bit more and added a deeper growl. Install only took bout 30 minutes and had no issues. My 16 GT now runs like a champ.

    Excellent product!

This CAI is top notch in terms of design and quality. Steeda did a great job designing this to fit in the old air boxes space. It also sits right up against the hood to block out hood heat. I'm only seeing an increase in IAT of about 5-8 degrees. This is the item you want if you're going to stay stock or possibly go with a tune down the line because it comes with an aluminum filler piece.

    Quality

All quality components fit and finish I noticed an immediate increase in throttle response and an improvement on maintaining mph going up hills in 6th gear without extra acceleration at lower rpms. Drove it 2 days with Restrictor in No tune. Then I removed Restrictor and flashed with Ngauge and Lund Tune Car now has extremely crisp throttle response in normal mode almost too sensitive to drive in a work boot .Also noticed im able to shift the car alot smoother due there not being any lag in the throttle movement to actual responding . Noticeable amount new power with tune car now easily tries to break tires loose under normal driving. My opinion is based on me driving same roads the same way to and from work 5 days a week same traffic. If i stay out of the throttle like normal car has gain alittle fuel economy.took me over an hour at night low light and I'm extremely picky how all clamps are positioned and spaced and placed.

    Sounds and looks good

I went with a no tune CAI but want to get it tuned later, since Steeda had a removable insert into the pipe and make a it easy to switch and only costs $15 more. Install was pretty easy, just follow the instructions. The sound is good and a noticeably different throttle response with no tune.
