    Smoother, Firmer Shifts. By combining a Steeda Tri-Ax MT-82 Short Shifter and shifter bracket you will enjoy smoother, faster shifting while you're banging through the gears. This Steeda bracket and short shifter combo kit replaces your 2011-2014 Mustangs stock setup that can allow deflection during spirited driving and power shifting, causing slow or even missed shifts.

    Shorter Throw. Steeda re-engineered the pivot mechanism of the Tri-Ax shifter to provide a 20% shorter throw than stock without changing the shifter knob height, preserving the factory shifter ergonomics.

    Retains Reverse Lock-out. The Steeda Tri-Ax Short Shifter and Bushing Bracket was specifically designed to retain the Reverse Lock-out safety feature of the 2011-2014 manual Mustangs to prevent accidentally shifting into reverse.

    Made in the USA. Crafted in the USA from billet aluminum, steel, and composite components for a rock solid construction, this Tri-Ax shifter features a nickel plated finish for great looks and long lasting corrosion protection. The bracket is milled from aerospace grade aluminum for lightweight and high-strength and comes with two different durometer polyurethane bushings; one low durometer for no increase in shifter NVH, and a high durometer for minimum compliance.

    Application. This Steeda Tri-Ax shifter and bushing bracket is designed for the 2011-2014 V6 and GT Mustangs equipped with the MT-82 manual 6 speed transmission. The shift handle reuses the stock shift knob or an aftermarket knob with a 12mm x 1.25 thread pattern.

    Will I need to purchase gasket, does it come with one or does it even need it?


    • The Steeda Tri-Ax Short Shifter and Bracket does not include or require a new gasket, however it is strongly recommended in order to eliminate noise and harshness as well as ensure that their is no metal on metal contact.

    I want to know why they send two bushing with the kit one red and one black got a difference between these two

      Steeda Short Throw Shifter

      This is one mod I wish I'd skipped. After installing, I really don't see the purpose of this part. It doesn't really change or improve anything for the better, in my opinion. If anything the car makes more noise inside now (I also bought bracket and gasket which didn't help noise much). Also, you're basically punching the gear shift every time now because it shifts firmer (read; harder). I don't know, I've bought lots of mods, but this one was more of a miss for me. If I had it to do over again, I wouldn't get this shifter.

      Go for MGW

      Had this in my 2014 GT for two years and finally moved on to MGW. Steeda was ok but for almost the same money you can get a really good shifter. I had a lot if extra noise, but with MGW it's all gone. Better than stock but that's about it.

      Good upgrade

      Big improvement over stock. Throws are a bit shorter not a huge difference but enough to notice. The big upside is how positive the the gear engagement is. You know if you are in a gear, its very precise with zero slop. Used the black bushing and like it a lot, perhaps I should'nt have used the stronger spring for the reverse lock out, or maybe I'm a wimp but it sometimes it takes two hand to get it pushed down to engage it.

      Steeda Tri-Ax on 2012 Boss 302

      Wasn't difficult to install the shifter or the bracket. Just make sure there is space between the reverse lockout ear on the base of the shifter and the reverse lockout bracket on the factory base, otherwise it won't go into first gear. Also, was easy to install the shifter bushing after loosening the hanger at the center of the two piece driveshaft. Didn't use the replacement lockout spring so can't comment on that. Tranny now shifts smoothly and precisely, no more lockups or missed gears. I am really happy with this product.

      Feels so much better!!!!

      Main reason why i bought this was because my stock shifter gave out. It first began to get stuck getting out of reverse then it completely broke where i couldnt push it down for reverse. My reverse was where my 1st gear should be. Anyway i ordered this hoping thats what was damaged and it definitely fixed the issue but also made it feel 100000000x better! Now you can actually feel it go into gear and there is no more wobble. This is how every shifter should feel! I did feel a throw reduction, not a huge amount but it feels shorter than stock. I also ordered this with a new gasket. I would definitely buy a steeda shifter again. Thanks AM!

      Love the Steeda Tri-Ax shifter!

      If you haven't upgraded your stock manual shifter yet, this is the single most important modification for your S197 Mustang to enhance your driving experience. The stock shifter is sloppy... at best. The Steeda shifter and bracket vastly improves the feel and throw of each shift. With the stock shifter, it's problematic finding the gear you want or knowing what gear you were getting. With the Steeda, it's short, sure action is a pleasure, speeds up the shift process, and increases confidence running through the gears. And don't forget the bracket to make sure it's firmly secured. The Steeda is a little more expensive than some of the other shifters on the market, but well worth it. You won't be disappointed. Buy it, Install it, Enjoy it!

      Worked ok for a little while.

      I had my local (reputable) Mustang shop install this shifter on my 2013 5.0. The first thing I noticed was that it was extremely difficult to shift into first gear with any sort of force. I got used to it and decided to live with it. Fast forward about 9 months of normal use and the shifter no longer needs to be pushed down in order to shift into reverse... which needless to say is dangerous. The issue has gotten worse and it's exceptionally difficult to shift back into first gear when at a stop. It will quite frequently go into reverse or third gear. This makes driving around town very dangerous. This is my fifth manual transmission equipped Mustang and I assure you it is not driver error. I went with the Steeda Tri-ax specifically because the one I had on my 94 GT and my 99 Cobra worked exceptionally well. Well needless to say I'm disappointed. I do not recommend this product.

      Steeda Tri-Ax Shifter and Bracket Review

      I should mention, beforehand, that the installation only took myself about 2 hours. I don't have nearly as much experience as other customers on this site and I am learning as I go. With that being said, I wanted a much firmer and engaging shift as opposed to the stock shifter. Installation, even for a novice like me, was pretty simple and straightforward. I recommend also buying a replacement gasket since the factory one is paper thin and the replacement from AM is much more durable. The shifter/bushing/bracket are all very high quality compared to what the factory sends the car with. The factory bushing, for example, is zip-tied to offer a more protruding entry, so upgrading to a higher durometer bushing and sturdier bracket was a must. The shifter itself it a little bit "meatier" than the flimsy shifter that Ford produced, which is a good thing! Installation was easy, and the products are of high quality. The difference in performance between the stock shifter and the Steeda is a night and day difference. The shifts are firmer and crisper, and the throw is extremely short and nice. Overall, this product exceeded my expectations. I thought I loved driving this car when I first got it, but now I enjoy driving it even more! Thanks Steeda, and thanks to AM for their awesome customer service!
