Dave from AmericanMuscle, with me today is the TCI ratchet shifter for the 05-09 automatic GT and V6 Mustang. The idea behind the ratchet shifter is this: put some excitement and some precise control over your gear changes, back into driving your automatic Mustang. The TCI ratchet shift goes directly in place of the factory unit, no drilling or any kind of special modifications required. This part will allow you to manually shift your automatic with precise control and safety in mind. Safety, because you’re not going to miss any shifts and overshift or downshift too soon, with this neat ratcheting design, it allows you to precisely go from park into 1st and everything between. Here we are in our automatic GT, it’s the 05-09 variety so it’s a 5 speed automatic, at this point we’ve got the car in drive, I’m just going to drive round for a couple of minutes, get an idea of how it shifts on its own. Then we’ll throw it back with the stock shifter into 1st and go through all 5 gears, giving an idea of how it shifts when I shift it. The reason being we’re about to take this shifter out and as we mentioned go with the TCI ratchet shifter and come back out and try it again. Okay so we’ve just simulated normal driving, now I’m going to go ahead and throw this shifter down, put it into 1st, and go through the gears like I mentioned before, including using the overdrive button on the side here, I really want to get through all the gears with some quick shifting, manually with my automatic, let’s give it a shot. Very responsive, however definitely a delay between all my shifts. We’re back here after our stock run, we have our stock shifter out of the car and we’re about to install the TCI ratchet shifter. We’ll take it back out, run it through the same paces, see what kind of changes we notice. So we’re back with our TCI ratchet shifter installed on our automatic GT, now we’re going to take it out on the street, let it run normally, just put it in drive as if our stock shifter were still in here and see how it performs, basically to make sure nothing changed. Then we’ll have some fun, going to throw it back into 1st gear and use the ratchet shifter to manually shift our automatic for precise and ideally crisp shifting with our automatic. Now up shift. Little tire chirp. Not bad. Now what I’ve done is go ahead and turned my overdrive off, so I’m working with my bottom 4 gears at all times, keeping the car in the “go gears” as I like to call it. Let’s give it some oomph going up this hill. Very nice. Well we just got back as you saw from driving the car with the TCI ratchet shifter in it, and I’ll be honest with you, it did add a lot of excitement to driving the automatic. I’m a fan of driving manuals, I want that control, and I feel I got that control in the automatic with the TCI ratchet shifter. It’s also really nice to look down and see the illuminated numbers here, I always knew what gear I was in. The leather boot and the brushed material really went well with the interior. So final verdict: good product that works well, and fits in the interior real nice.
