Review & Install Video
Hey, what's going on guys? Adam here with americanmuscle.com, and today I'm bringing you a detailed review of the TruXmart Smart Fold Tonneau Cover fitting all 2015 and newer F-150s with a five and a half foot bed. So if you're the owner of a 2015 or newer F-150 with the five and a half foot bed, you might be looking for a convenient reliable way to protect the cargo in the bed of your truck with the convenient folding style tonneau cover. You might be interested in the TruXmart Smart Fold Tonneau Cover I have here today.
So a tonneau cover is basically expected to protect the cargo in the bed of your truck from the outside elements like rain, snow, sleet, and hail, and if you're off-roading, even dirt and mud. This Smart Fold Tonneau Cover from TruXmart does just that in a reliable way with a very unique latching system. So the Smart Fold Tonneau Cover allows the user to fold the back with a single pull of a cable that's located directly in the middle of the tailgate at the end of the tonneau cover. Most traditional folding tonneau covers utilizes latching systems on both sides of the tailgate that you have to unlatch, unscrew, or something of the sort to get it to fold. This is the single pull of a cable making it a lot easier.
So I do want to point out at the time of this video, a soft top cover with this type of latching system is one of a kind. This is a very unique system that allows you to get some durability, protection, and reliability all around with a soft top giving you good looks for your truck all around.
Now, speaking of durability and reliability, the kit comes with everything that you're going to need which includes a 24-ounce double coated UV-protected vinyl tarp to keep all of the elements out keeping your cargo protected, clean, and dry.
Now, included with the kit also is a double-coated black powder-coated aluminum subframe to hold up all the weight against the snow in the winter time and all the other elements outside there. Also, comes preassembled on the tarp itself to make the install a lot easier. Now, the kit also utilizes an adjustable latch positioning track. Now, like I said the whole tracking system to get this unfolded is what makes it so unique. That single pull of the cable is routed through nylon rollers that can be adjusted to your preference to allow you to open it up. Closing it is extremely simple as well. All you'll have to do is unfold it back to the tailgate and press it down on each side to snap it closed.
Now, price-wise, you can expect to pick this Smart Fold kit up from TruXmart for just about $300 making it a very affordable option considering all the bang for the buck that you're getting. You're getting protection for the cargo with a very smart latching system that's very unique when compared to other options on the market that can range up to the $500 mark. This is definitely worth it in my opinion.
So the installation is gonna be very simple as well and should only take you about an hour in your driveway at home. Some of the tools you're gonna need like a ratchet and a 17-millimeter socket, and we'll jump right into it in just a second. So the first thing you'll want to do is set up the bed rails on each side of the truck's bed using the clamping system that is supplied in the kit as well to hold it up while you're getting everything leveled.
Next, once you get the bed rails in place, you can put the folded up tonneau cover in place on the bed closest to the windshield making sure it's leveled out straight. If not, it will hinder the system and unfolding properly. So next, you can start up by pulling down on the actual latching system that you see here latching it to the underside of the bed rail and turning it counterclockwise to make sure it's snug. You want to repeat the same process for the other side of the bed rail as well.
You can start by unfolding the tonneau cover on each side of the bed, locating the actual smart latching system, and marking them on the bed rails with a piece of tape or maybe even your finger to install the L-brackets and clamps that are provided in the kit.
Now, just a quick side note to help you out along the way, while you're installing the L-brackets and shims if they're not really leveled, you can use the supplied adhesive strips to get everything down properly. From here, you can place one L-bracket on the top of the side bed rail and you place the other one on the inside making sure they're flush together, and you can tighten down the bolts using the ratchet provided making sure that's all snug.
So once you repeat this process for the other side, making sure everything's even, you can unfold the tonneau cover back to the tailgate and snap it shut. If it's not snapping shut properly, you may need to revisit the installation at some points to make sure that everything's done correctly. But once it does shut correctly, it'll snap, hold a tight seal, and be very easy to open to gain access to your cargo. So at this point in the installation, you're pretty much done, but you want to test it to make sure everything is done correctly.
So right in the middle of the tonneau cover is a smart latching system. Like I said before, all you have to do is pull that cable and fold it over, and if it's not really coming off properly, you can use a Phillip's head screwdriver to adjust the latching system. Like I mentioned before, it is adjustable to get everything done properly, but at this point, you're good to go.
So overall, like I said, the install's really not that difficult. It should definitely get done in your driveway at home with an hour tops. It's definitely something anybody can do which is why I'd give this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter.
Now before I close everything out, I do want to point out that I did mention this is for the five and a half foot bed on the 2015 and newer F-150s. If you're rocking a six and a half foot bed or anything different than the five and a half, you can expect to look on the site to get something that'll fit your truck, but like I said, this is specifically for the five and a half foot guys. Six and a half foot guys, you're not out of the water. Check out some of the other options.
Just to wrap things up, guys, if you're the owner of a 2015 or newer F-150 and you're looking for a convenient way to protect all the cargo in the five and a half foot bed, while also getting a durable reliable vinyl top with a smart latching unique system, check out the TruXmart Smart Fold Tonneau Cover available right here at americanmuscle.com.
