Review & Install Video
The Unleashed Tuning Rev-X will be for the 2015 and newer EcoBoost crowd here at AM, and it's gonna be a slightly more top-shelf option in regards to just overall drivability performance and also price. Perfected buyers will be receiving two custom tunes along with the newer Rev-X device her for the mid-$400 price point, and it's gonna get a simple one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter when it does come time up to load those tunes to your ride. Now, maybe some of you guys have heard of Unleashed, and maybe some of you haven't, but what I can tell you is that Tory [SP] and the crew, over at Unleashed Tuning, have been around for some time now, and while they do offer a number of different services, they have really focused in on the EcoBoost world, including the F-150, the ST and, of course, the EcoBoost Mustang with great results. Now, as far as power goes, you can typically expect a few tweaks to both your cam and ignition timing along with a few extra pounds of boost over your factory calibration, in addition to carrying that boost all the way to red line. That's huge, because with the factory cow, typically it tends to fall off pretty early, as you guys probably already know. You should also expect full boost to come on a little bit earlier compared to your factory calibration. And then, finally, just massive gains in the torque department as you're about to see with our Dyno results. And let's get to the numbers you guys all wanna see, and what you might be able to expect on your own 2015 or newer EcoBoost Mustang. We already established the baseline run earlier using our manual 2015 EcoBoost Mustang. We then reran the car, using the 93-octane tune from Unleashed. And here are those results. So, baseline numbers, using our EcoBoost Mustang, gave us 239 horsepower and 275 pound feet of torque at the rear wheels. With the 93 octane Unleashed tune uploaded, the car is now making 277 horsepower and 394 pound feet of torque. That's good for a peak gain of 38 horsepower over those baseline numbers and gains of as much as 67 horsepower and 119 pound feet of torque under the curve. As you can see, these new EcoBoost Mustangs really do transform with a custom tune and, more specifically, the Unleashed tune here, picking up over 100 foot pounds of torque alone, using one modification, which is pretty crazy, but that just is the case here with these newer factory turbo-charged platforms. So, now that you know what kind of power is possible using the Unleashed tunes, let's talk a little bit more about the Rev-X device. Now, on the surface, the Rev-X would be very similar to the X-4 in regards to just basic features and overall operation, with one big exception. And that is this new cloud-based tuning. And what does this mean to you guys? Well, instead of needing a laptop to receive the tunes from Unleashed in this case, you're simply just gonna connect the Rev-X device to your WiFi signal. It'll prompt you to download these tunes from the cloud, and that's pretty much it. It is nice for a few different reasons. First and foremost, guys, it's really going to speed up the process of, not only receiving your tunes, but also loading them onto the device, without the need for any computer to get you up and running messing with emails, things like that. And, if you're a Mac owner, well, this is a complete game changer, because most aftermarket tuners, like the Rev-X here, aren't going to be Apple-compatible. But, aside from this cloud-based tuning feature, expect those onscreen gauges and data logging, capable of reading up to eight different values at one time, and these do include favorites like your air fill ratio, and take air temp boost, cooling temp, and ignition timing, just to name a few. Now, even though the case is a little bit different here with the Rev-X, the overall dimensions really haven't changed that much. It's still roughly the same size as most smartphones out there, and it does have the three-inch full color LCD spring, which is configurable, by the way, and viewable in two different ways. Straight up and down is gonna be your portrait mode like we have here, or flip it on its side and you'll have the horizontal landscape. But on the topic of actually displaying the device, one thing that I think is really cool about the Rev-X is this little back portion here where the logo is…it's actually magnetic. So if you have one of those cellphone holders that is magnet-based, maybe in your vent or on the dashboards somewhere, it can be a great way to display the Rev-X at all times when in use, and it's also gonna make it very easy to remove and store in your glove box or your center console when not needed. But, aside from all of that, you can also expect some other cool features, such as your WiFi capabilities not only allowing you to download those tunes wirelessly from the cloud like we've already talked about, but it's also gonna allow you to download any future firmware update wirelessly, again without the need for a computer. And even though you're only gonna be receiving two custom tunes here from Unleashed, this thing does have the capability to hold up to 10 different tunes at one time. You will also be able to read and clear those diagnostic trouble codes, better known to you guys as "Check engine lights," with the Rev-X device in addition to returning the car to start if you ever needed to during your time of ownership. Now the Rev-X does include both your USB cable to connect this thing to the laptop if you want to do some data logging, in addition to the OBD2 cable, which will be used to connect the Rev-X to your car. I do, as always, recommend following the included instructions from the Rev-X device here, just with the initial start-up and basic operation still give you a better idea of how this thing works and how to get those tunes onto your device. You'll also want to go ahead and plug it into your car's OBD2 port, once you have the tunes loaded and wait for it to power on. Now, you can navigate to the program vehicle tab and select the tune you wish to upload, follow the onscreen instructions, and your installation is complete again. Very, very straightforward, guys, anybody should be able to tackle this with ease. So, one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, maybe 30 minutes of your time to get you up and running for the very first time.Wrapping things up here, guys, the Unleashed Rev-X combo would unleash massive power to your stock or modified EcoBoost Mustang, also providing interested buyers with the latest tech in the tuning world, thanks to the Rev-X and its cloud-based tunes.
