Now, if you stumbled across the sidestep category here on the site, then chances are you've noticed the abundance of options including your Nerf bars, you running boards, drop steps such as this, the Westin HDX drop step, rock sliders, power steps, and even more. Now for the most part guys, each one of those parts I just mentioned will be designed with the primary purpose of helping you get in and out of your truck a little bit easier, along with providing some added looks and protection to boot. Now the drop step that we have here is gonna be unique in the fact that it does lower the step area down ever so slightly when compared to a standard Nerf bar or even a running board, making the task of entering or exiting your truck a little bit easier as you don't have to step up as high. Now as you might imagine, this is especially helpful on lifted trucks as it does bring that step a little bit closer to the ground, and outside of an amp power step for instance, which do deploy automatically, drop steps are really gonna be the only option in the category to offer this specific benefit. But now that you know a little bit more about why you might want to consider a drop step over some of your other options, let's talk about what the Westin HDX here will deliver as far as the goods. And on the surface guys, the Westin will be one of your most affordable options to offer this sort of box steel build with the drop step feature at right around 400 bucks. And Fab and Barricade will offer some tubular options for around the same price point, but if you want the look of this angular steel design, the Westin might just be your best bet. But on top of that really cool look of the HDX here, I'm also a big fan of just how well this main bar or horizontal bar, whatever you want to call it, hugs the lower portion of the rocker on your cab. Now, in my opinion guys, just makes for a much cleaner look overall once everything has been installed. Now again, these steps do feature that solid one-piece steel design along with the dye stamp traction area for both front and rear passenger on your SuperCrew, which by the way, these little dimple portions are removable in case you ever wanted to clean underneath that. Finally, guys, everything is going to be finished off in this textured black powder coat as you can see, for added protection against the elements, but just to help keep things looking good for years to come. Lots of positive reviews here on these guys on the site in addition to a lot of customer-submitted images. So if you don't want to just take my word for everything guys, feel free to cruise back to the product page and check those out for some more real-world feedback. And now let's talk about how these things are installed and honestly guys, it's going to be very straightforward using the included brackets and hardware. So again, figure a soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. The only hard part basically being to lift these guys up in a place as they are built really well and therefore are a bit heavy. And to give you a better idea of how this job is gonna go down, here is Tony with a detailed walkthrough, along with a few tools needed to get everything done. Tony: Tools used for the installation are as follows. We have a ratchet with a 13-millimeter socket. All right, thanks, Justin. Now let's go ahead and get these installed on our truck, but first, we're here on the table because we have a few pieces to put together. As you can see, Westin supplies you with quite a bit of hardware and there's a lot of bracketry, but that's okay. They're really not that difficult to put together. If you just follow along, I'll show you exactly how they go together and secure to our truck. Now as you can see, our brackets are a little bit different from each other, unlike some of the other ones where the brackets are very straightforward. These ones, they're very specific for Westin. Now with that being said, I'm gonna go ahead and assemble it all here on the table, then we'll slide the whole unit up on the truck. But once we install everything, we're gonna keep everything very loose. We're just gonna tighten it by hand. Once it's on the truck and adjusted, then we'll snug everything down using a 13-millimeter socket on our ratchet. Let's go ahead and get this started by assembling our brackets first. Then we'll put them onto our side step and put the whole unit up on the truck. All right, now here is our main bracket here and we're going to attach our universal crossbar to. Now all these brackets are different in the kit, so you're gonna want to pay attention to the instructions to make sure you pick out the right one for the right location. Their instructions are very detailed to show you exactly which one you need.To install these, we can go ahead and take our crossbar, line it up with the center hole, put our lag bolt through that. We're gonna attach our flat washer and locking washer right here on the backside and lock it down with a nut. But we're just gonna make these finger tight for now until everything is on the truck. Now we're just gonna repeat this for all three brackets. All right, now with our brackets built, we can go ahead and get them lightly snugged down on to our steps. What we do here is flip our step over so you can gain a little bit of access here to where the brackets are gonna bolt and I can show you how they're gonna go in. We're gonna start here in the middle. Go ahead, slide this into place, and I have our hardware set up already as a bolt with our lock washer and our flat washer. The holes inside of our sidesteps are already threaded with a weld nut on the inside. Now just repeat that for all three brackets. All right, now our lower brackets are installed on our side steps. Now the instructions from Westin have you putting the bracket on the truck first before installing the step on it. Now, I did this for a reason. One, it makes it a lot easier for me to show you how this all goes together. Two, this is just the way I find it to be a little bit easier. Now, let's go ahead and get these mounted up on our truck. All right, now I'm gonna go ahead and lay under the truck. I'm gonna sit this down on my chest for a second. They're really not that heavy, fully assembled. Then we're gonna go ahead and bolt them up. Go ahead and put your flat washers in place. Follow that up with your lock washer and your nut. Once again, we're just gonna finger tighten this now until we have everything snugged down. Now we can move on to our last two brackets and then we can go ahead and tighten it all in place. All right, now to tighten up, we're gonna use our 13-millimeter socket on our ratchet and I'm gonna begin with the 3 body bolts first, move to our bracket bolts and then down to our steps. Now just repeat that for the other two brackets. All right, now that we wrapped up with our installation, everything you just saw just mirrors over to the other side.
