The HDX Drop Steps from Westin are going to be available for any SuperCrew F-150 owner who might be looking to pick up a unique, yet safe way to enter and exit their truck with individual steps under each of their doors. This particular setup is going to be more rugged in appearance, and is going to provide the maximum amount of traction with a die-stamped step and a one-piece steel design all the way through. Now, the installation for this is going to be a complete bolt-on. So expect a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, something you can definitely handle with about an hour or so in the driveway at home. Now, there's a ton of different ways to accomplish the exact same goal that these drop steps do. Running boards, sidesteps, and nerf bars are some of the other options in the category. Now, drop steps like this one will be the farthest away from the traditional OEM look that you can possibly get. Sidesteps or nerf bars, on the other hand, will kind of gap out from the body of the truck and offer individual steps under the doors. They're very, very common aftermarket options. Running boards, on the other hand, are pretty much the traditional OEM I just mentioned. They sit flush with your rocker panel. The entire bar is offered as a sidestep. Really, that's just something that comes from the factory. So if you're looking to stray away, this one is probably the direction you're looking in. Now, drop steps like this one do offer a completely enclosed step for each one of the individual doors. As you can see with this styling, you're getting a very jagged and distinct cut with each turn here. This gets the one-piece, complete steel construction all the way through, head to toe, top to bottom, and it's offered a black textured powder coating on top. Now, that's obviously going to give it a more aggressive and stealthy look on top. But more importantly, it does keep some corrosion resistance to the materials. As far as grip and the steps themselves are concerned, these offer heavy-duty, die-stamped, steel punch plates, with an additional two inches of space. Now, this is great for any boot or foot size, reducing the risk of slipping all year-round and any wet weather condition. If you're anything like us, located on the East Coast, you get hit with those rough winters. Ice and snow are going to be a factor, and these will reliably get you in and out of your truck no problem. They're also even removable. So if you're doing a lot of off-roading, some of the mud and dirt gets stuck in the punched holes here. Pop it off, clean it, pop it right back on, very easy stuff. Now, as far as pricing is concerned, it does carry a pretty average price tag for the market here, coming in right around the $400 mark. Now, the only one priced higher than this is another Westin option with a curved oval design I mentioned earlier, with a 304 stainless steel. So unless you're really set on that top, top quality construction with the kind of curved oval design, this one is going to be for you with the more rugged edges and more aggressive off-road look. So like I mentioned earlier, this job gets a very simple one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, something you can definitely handle with a ratchet and a simple socket set, and about an hour or so in the driveway at home. All the mounting brackets are included in the kit to get this thing mounted up, and the stepping plates are already preinstalled into the bar itself. But if you did like to remove it, obviously a torques bit would definitely take care of that. Now, those mounting brackets will come first, and you can bolt those down to the interior wall of your rocker panel inside the preexisting holes. Now, the hardware is provided in the kit to do so, and there's going to be three brackets for each side. Once you have one side taken care of and bolted down, repeat that for the opposite side. You and a helping hand, maybe, if you have one on deck, can help get the drop steps onto the mounting brackets. Tighten those down, of course, repeat that for the other side, and you're good to go. If you're the owner of a 2009 to 2014 F-150 with the SuperCrew trim, you might want to check out the Westin HDX Drop Steps in the textured black finish, available right here at americantrucks.com.
