Justin: What happens when you combine one of the widest running boards in the category and add a small dash of that Ford Performance Raptor styling? Well, you get the Westin Thrasher boards here for your 2015 and newer SuperCrew or SuperCab F150. Now, these one piece stamp steel boards will offer a non-slip textured finish for just south of 500 bucks, while the simple bolt on installation will get a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter from me, with a detailed walkthrough to come later in the video. Now, the boards we are talking about here today do come from Westin who is undeniably one of the biggest brands in the truck and Jeep aftermarket. Now, they produce everything from running boards like we have here and steps, all the way down the line the bumpers and bull bars and everything in between. Now, the Thrasher boards again shown in this video here are one of a few different options from the popular brand and are designed to give truck owners a slightly more aggressive freerunner look. And I think that is the biggest takeaway from these particular options, at least in my opinion. Now, again, I do come back to the Raptor comparison, and for my money, this is as close as it gets to the factory boards found on the Gen 2 Raptor. But there is more than just good looks going on here with the Thrashers, and that is the massive amount of real estate you are getting for your stock ride height or even your lifted F150. Six and a half inches to be exact, which might not be the widest in the category, but it is pretty darn close. In fact, you can find a few seven-inch options here on the site within the category if you'd like to go even wider. Now, on top of making entry and exit slightly easier, the extra width will also act as a barrier against door dings and things like that in the parking lot. That's because careless doors will likely catch the width of the sidestep first depending on your height, of course, before dinging up the doors on that new F150. And the Thrashers are certainly up to the task of some abuse, whether it be random parking lots and random doors swinging open or maybe some off-roading with your truck. Now, Westin does utilize a one-piece stamp steel design here for the Thrasher, which is then finished off in this textured black powder coat to add even more durability and a little bit more traction to the boards themselves, in addition to this louver design, which helps water escape, of course, and just looks really good while doing so. Westin does also include all of the necessary brackets and hardware to get the Thrashers in place. And on that topic, Westin has updated their bracket design to include this injection molded bracket cover, which I think makes for a slightly cleaner look when installed because you will see those brackets between the body and the boards themselves. And any bit they can add to that to finish off the look is nothing but a positive, in my opinion. Now, speaking of the installation, we have got one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter here with the Westins as most if not all running boards are gonna be extremely simple to tackle in your garage or driveway with ease using nothing more than a basic socket set in about 30 minutes to an hour tops depending on how fast you like to work. And to give you a better idea of what's involved for this job, here is that detailed walkthrough along with a tool breakdown. Man: To start things off here, we're gonna remove our factory sidestep. There's three nuts on each bracket, it's total nine nuts, a 13 millimeter socket. Let's get down here and remove these sidesteps. Once you've got all nine nuts off of each bracket, we're going to simply grab our sidestep and remove it off of the studs on the truck. We're gonna lose our washers. That's all right. First thing we need to do is assemble some of these brackets. We have two different types of brackets. They are labeled with an A or B. The B brackets are gonna be the front bracket on the truck and the second two brackets will be your A brackets. So keep that in mind. You wanna put the B bracket up front closest to the driver door. We wanna take one of these flat angled pieces here. Make sure that the angled part is up and facing back, and grab the supplied carriage bolts. They're gonna have a square tip on the end right here. We'll slide it in and we'll get a washer and a nut on the backside. Also keep in mind that we're gonna keep these loose for now until we get them hung on the truck. It's gonna help us get everything lined up. Once we got everything hung on the truck, we can go back through and tighten our bolts up last. So same thing for the A brackets, carriage bolt through the front, flat washer and nut on the back. And again, I'm gonna keep all these loose for now. All right. The last part of our bracket assembly here is the plastic bracket cover. This is gonna help just clean things up a little bit when everything's installed on your truck. So we're gonna go ahead and just slide this right on the center of the bracket. There are two holes that you need to line up. Go into your bag of supplied hardware. We're gonna start out with a bolt and a flat washer. And each bracket cover gets two bolts. Bolt flat washer followed by flat washer and a nut. And again, we're gonna leave these loose for now as well until we get everything installed on the truck so we can make sure it's all tight, then tighten them down all at once. All right. We're ready to install our new brackets onto the truck. Before we do that, it's important to use the clear washers that are provided in the kit. This is gonna create a barrier against the aluminum body truck and the steel bracket. You're gonna slide three of these on followed by our bracket. Again, we're gonna wanna put the B bracket up front. And they are all marked. Some washers up here, followed by some nuts. All right. We can go ahead and tighten these up now. This is a 13-millimeter. All right, while I'm down here I'm gonna get this plastic guard tightened up. [inaudible 00:10:26] bracket guard. This is a 10-millimeter nut and bolt. Have a 10-millimeter socket on my ratchet with a 10-mill wrench. All right. We're gonna move down to the center bracket and this is gonna be an A bracket. Make sure you grab the right one. Start off with three flat washers followed by three 13-millimeter nuts. You can go ahead and tighten these up. Don't forget to put your clear plastic washers on, guys, it's gonna help protect against corrosion from when the steel meets up with the aluminum. And for the most...the rearmost bracket we'll be using an A bracket. All right. We're almost ready to get our new sidestep installed on the truck. The last thing we need to do is grab the stud plates provided with the hardware kit here. And we're gonna take three of them, one for each bracket on the truck and slide them down this center channel here. Try and place them roughly where our brackets are. All right. We're ready to throw these on our truck now. I'm gonna grab a buddy to help with the other end of this and we're gonna get this thing on here. All right. Now that we got our sidestep up on top of our brackets, we can go ahead and get it bolted down to the brackets. We're gonna be using the provided 13-millimeter nuts with a flat washer. And keep in mind also that these are slightly adjustable. You have some front and back and movement here. We're gonna keep our step all the way forward. So just keep that in mind when you're going through and tightening everything up that pull forward and they're all equal. All right. We can tighten these up now, I have a 13-millimeter socket on our impact on. And again, keep in mind that these are adjustable all the way forward or all the way back, doesn't matter, wherever you like them. We're gonna go all the way forward on these. All right, guys, that's gonna wrap up our review and install of the Westin Thrasher running boards. Be sure to check these out and more at americantrucks.com.
