2001 Mustang Overview
The 2001 Mustang went largely unchanged from '99 and '00. The 2001 Mustangs got new headlights off the 2001 Cobra R. The GT model got the hood scoop and side scoops off the 35th Anniversary Limited Edition Mustangs, and a new wing was fitted to all Mustangs. Mustang GT's now came stock with 17 inch wheels, and the retro Torq-Thrust wheels were offered as an option.
A limited edition model called the Bullett GT was offered for 2001. This special edition was designed to mimic the styling cues of the 1968 Highland Green Fastback that Steve McQueen piloted in the movie "Bullett". The 2001 Bullett was offered in Black, True Blue, and of course Dark Highland Green. The green color was only available on the Bullett model. The Bullett lost the grill corral, got red brake calipers, sleeker side scoops, and a unique aluminum fuel-filler door. The interior of the Bullett continued the throwback theme, with old-school seats, 60's style gauges, and assorted silver interior trim. The Bullett also got a modest 5hp boost in power thanks to a new aluminum intake manifold. Only 5582 Bulletts were made.
Ford decided to bring back the Cobra for 2001, and it now came standard from the factory with the full 320 horsepower. The Cobra's bumper now said "Cobra" instead of "Mustang", and it used the same spoiler as the base and GT models. The Cobra also got a new interior.
