Flow Path Mufflers. MAC Flow Path Chambered Mufflers feature a patented multi passage design, following Helmholtz's Theory of Tone, to produce a muffler that effectively flows exiting exhaust gases all while maintaining a desirable tone. With no packing that can burn out, Flow Path Mufflers will sound the same mile after mile, year after year.

No Cutting or Welding Required. Unlike other aftermarket V6 dual exhaust kits that require cutting and welding the stock Mid Pipe, the MAC Performance Dual Exhaust Cat-Back system simply bolts right up to the stock Y-pipe for a no hassle installation. Just bolt on and go!

High Quality Construction. Mandrel bent from durable 2.5" aluminized Steel tubing for strength and corrosion resistance, this MAC Performance Dual Cat-Back features two "Flow Path" chambered mufflers with massive 3" diameter polished stainless steel tips for classic muscle car sound and looks.

Application. The MAC Performance Dual Exhaust Cat-Back System is designed as a direct bolt-on to the existing factory Y-pipe on any 1999 to 2004 3.8L or 3.9L V6 Mustang for more power and a more aggressive sound.

Technical Note. When buying a dual cat-back exhaust kit for your 1999-2004 V6 Mustang, you will need to select the "Exhaust Hanger Kit" from the drop down option menu above to properly install your new exhaust.

The left exhaust pipe is kind of crooked inward and wont stay put whenever I tighten the screw there you slide it into the small hole. How can I fix/adjust this?

I have a 2003 v6 and I'm looking to buy x-pipes. I think I want dynomax race bullet mufflers but I'm not sure how that will sound. Will it sound good? I want a loud, deep rumble with some rasp but not a lot. Please help me decide what setup I need. Thank you


  • An X-Pipe will give your vehicle a raspy tone. I suggest going with the Pypes Catted X-Pipe (98-04 V6), item # 20040, ( The X-Pipe will created the raspy tone but that will be dampened by the catalytic converters. This X-Pipe will make a great combination with many mufflers.

What kind of mufflers are on this? Can you swap them out for flowmasters super 10 or 40s?


  • The Mufflers on this Conversion Kit are Flow Path Chambered Mufflers. They are actually welded to the surround pipes. If you wanted to swap out the these Mufflers for the Flowmaster Super 10 or 40 Series, you will have to do some cutting and welding. Which we recommend professional installation of.

When you install this exhaust, do you have to reset your computer or not? I have been asking people what they would think if I put this kit on my car and they saidt to have a shop do it because of resetting the computer, and thats one thing im not good at.

  • Slight power increase, slight sound. A true dual exhaust conversion kit would do better. No mid pipe needed with 3.8L

Can the "flowmaster ss 40 series mufflers" be welded on to this exhaust kit? And will it sound Deeper/Louder, more aggressive then the mufflers already on the kit?


  • Yes, but wasteful and difficult. You can get a true dual pipe conversion and then attach any aggressive muffler after that

    Mac dual exhaust conversion DIY

    I am by no means a technical car person. But for some reason, I dont have a clue why, I decided to tackle this installation as well as bbk headers in the span of 2 days. I spent way to much time under my stang. The headers were the hard part, im glad I did those first. This dual exhaust kit was pretty straight forward, just follow the installation instructions that the guy wrote. Use at least 2 jack stands and a floor jack and most of all be safe underneath your car. Before installing these the most I have ever done to a car was change oil, spark plugs, etc. the easy stuff. And im not a super technical person but I didnt have too much trouble installing this dual exhaust all by myself. Couple answers to questions that I know I had, "yes you can keep your stock V-6 bumper/fascia" the dual exhaust fits great and looks great even with the stock bumper. Another question you may have mid-install, " oh no the new added y pipe is hitting the driveshaft" dont worry install as the directions say and the driveshaft and exhaust will separate when you lower the car back down. Overall the sound this exhast puts out is not too loud but just right, enough to get people to ask why you removed your "gt emblem" but then you tell them its a v6. It is a great project and good first mod for your stang. If you are thinking about getting it and can, Just Get It!

    GT looks and sound!! But v6 mpg!!

    Took me a year to decide what exhaust to get for my v6. Wanted gt styling and sound but also easy on the wallet. Was worried about getting a exhaust that made sound ricy. Not the case with this Mac setup!! It was straight forward bolt-in kit. Passenger side is a little tight by the frame and control arm. Helpful hint!! Buy the pypes hanger kit!! Or it will be impossible. Took about 2 hours to install in my drive way. After I installed it took it around the block and people whip the heads to see if its a gt. No performance gain that I noticed but awesome sound. Great product!!

    Great product!!!!

    The install was easy and not to complicated. There were no instructions at all and install was a little slower because of it. I have this product on my mustang Gt and I love the brand. It does sound good on the V6 but I would recommend the full system over the cat back if you are looking for the better louder sound. But for the V6 it does sound good.

    perfect set up

    If you havent bought this you need too. For the price you cant beat it! Starts up real loud and then settles down. Gets really loud around 2500 to 3000 rpms like crazy loud! But it settles down and gets quite after you start crusing or 3rd gear. Also get the cold air intake with it. Sounds really nice together. You have to buy the hanger kit!!

    Great if you get it on sale

    I got this exhaust on sale along with the pypes exhaust hanger kit. My mechanic charged me $80 to install it and it was pretty straightforward. Cut the old exhaust out and bolt this one right up. When I first started up my car I couldn't believe my ears, WHAT A BEAST! After breaking it in for about 2-3 tanks, around 500 miles, the sound really settled and it sounds much better than when it was recently installed. Upon installation, the exhaust sounded really great and loud, a nice deep tone but it sounded a bit hollow. Once you break it in it develops a nice low tone that roars when you hit the 2-3k rpm band. It idles well also, sometimes I wonder if my car has shut off because it gets that quiet in the car. As for performance and mpg gains, I haven't noticed any since this isn't true dual exhaust but if you don't have the cash for true dual then this is a great mod to add a great roar to your Mustang.

    Wish it was a little louder at first but as soon as you drive a full tank worth and the mufflers break in, the sound is amazing. Get stares accelerating all the time and the rev is unbelievable. AMAZING PRODUCT for the price.

    Video w/ Sound Clips on this Review

    I really love this exhaust on my 2000 V6. The only other performance mod I have is the $70 cold air intake also from american muscle. These two parts REALLY shine together. The exhaust has a really deep aggressive start up and then comes back down to a modest growl as you idle. Accelerating at launch is also nice and loud but again, once you hit your cruising speed it really calms down. I love that it doesn't sound phony like a bottle rocket screaming down the road. VERY happy I invested in this exhaust! As everyone else says, buy the pypes hanger kit in the exhaust section of American Muscle. My mechanic said install was virtually impossible without the hanger kit.

    Loud Start up.

    ordered it on Monday and got it Wednesday morning, cant beat the shipping. this is probably the BEST dual exhaust for your v6, the start up is ridiculously loud and so is the revving. sounds great when your on the road and took about 45 minutes to install, but you NEED TO NEED TO NEED TO order the "Pypes exhaust hanger kit" otherwise you'll never be able to get the exhaust installed.

    Best Bolt On Exhaust on the Market for the Mustang 3.8 and 3.9

    Great addition to anyones V-6 Mustang. I didn't buy from AM as I got it shipped for $270 from another site, but either way the improvement this exhaust makes is very noticable. Once tuned and in combo with a CAI, it allows the car to have more low end kick especially but throughout the entire RPM range. Sounds its best with said CAI and tune but even without provides a deep rumble at idle and a very nice growl even at WOT. Sound under acceleration is quite noticable inside the car and outside it and even at freeway crusing speeds you can hear its low growl which is very nice (and feel it...the mufflers sit up and in under the body so there is a nice pleasant vibration from them under your feet at higher speeds). Make sure you purchase a hangar kit for this as you need the two rear hangars and an additional front hangar on the RIGHT side (but be aware that this MAC may have hangars that are too thick for the PYPES kit, see my review of that part regarding that). Installation is easy for any muffler shop and can be done by a DIY person though I would advise two people if you're not using a lift. Of course you are not going to get the sound or performance of an H pipe with this, but you also don't have to cut, weld or mod anything to use this...and you'll stay emission compliant. I would say if you want a nice throaty sound for your V-6, a bit more performance, something that looks really good and you don't have alot of cash, this is the best exhaust out there. If you shop around for the unit AND for the labor, you should be able to get this on your car for under $400-I did it for $350...well worth it.

    Best for the price

    First of all, I ordered this somewhere else but wanted to put my review here. The exhaust sounds amazing & looks great. Now I always have my windows rolled down because I love the sound. Especially when you start it now I am actually proud of my v6 now. I highly recommend this turns heads too. Oh and also I did this with jack stands so it is possible with them.

    Good Mod, Worth the Money!

    Likes: - Easy Install - Great Price for Quality Construction - Throaty Sound - Fits well under V6 bumper (Pypes hanger kit) Dislikes: - needs to have slip joint at muffler vice weld. This limits necessary tweaks to clear frame, drive shaft and control arms. Not a big deal but does limit perfect fit. See pics, about 1/2 inch low rt side

    MAC Y-Pipe Exhaust

    I didn't purchase this exhaust from AM as they've just started carrying it, but if you're looking for what I believe is the best sound throughout the entire band for a stock/slightly modified V6 then stop here, this IS what you're looking for! Be sure to pick up some new exhaust hangers while you're at it and install will be a breeze.

    Great buy for the money

    If you're looking for a good upgrade to you V6 in this price range, don't even think twice about buying this. My car went from having virtually no sound to turning heads everywhere I go. The start up is loud and the sound emitted from stepping on the accelerator is a deep, aggressive rumble. Install time was about 40 minutes but that's because my uncle works at a Ford dealership so we put it up on a lift and had the best tools for the job. As stated in other reviews, you also have to buy the hanging kit but other than that this is a GREAT modification. I bought the SLP Loudmouth II mufflers to put on as well but have yet to get them welded on, I'm actually not even sure if I want to change the sound now..

    Love it!!

    bought from AM bone stock mustang v6 5 speed..couldnt decide from flows or this and so glad I choose this. This was so much cheaper and heck those tips stickin out the back looks so sick people already asked me if it was a gt and I just laughed.. But sounds great.. No ricey poop sounding exhaust.. Deep lower toned growl.. Sounds mean especially round 3000 rpms it's many looks and heads turned it's insane.. Barely can even hear inside of car with windows down or up so it's quiet but 50 times louder outside it's great
