Hey everybody, Dave from Bama performance, and today I have an Airaid cold air intake kit, designed for your 05-09 Mustang GT. This kit comes with everything you’re going to need, including a tube insert, the tube itself, all the clamps, and a new heat shield and filter. Now something you might have noticed just by looking at it, this features a sleek, black design, right on down through the couplers. Something you might not have noticed, is this kit includes an insert, now this insert goes inside the tube, and slightly restricts flow, allowing you to run this kit on your 05-09 GT, right out of the box, with no tune required, and still see a good performance gain. But if you’re looking for maximum gains like we are today, we’re going to remove the insert, and put this on our 05 GT, and get some serious dyn numbers. But before we do that, let’s get our stock GT up there and see what our baseline performance numbers are. We produced 257 horse power and 285 ft/lbs of torque. So we just ran the car stock and immediately took that intake off and installed our Airaid all black cold air intake kit. We installed a 93 Octane Bama race tune, here’s what this will do for you, it’ll give the optimized spark timing, adjusts your variable cam timing, give you a perfect air/fuel ratio, and dramatically improve your throttle response. We re-ran it with the Bama tune. Showing up with an additional 27 horse power and 26 ft/lbs of torque.

Ask a Question

How much gain w/out a tune? Is it worth it? I have a drop in k&n filter in my stock airbox. Would it be worth it to get a cai system w/out a tune bc im trying to avoid getting a tune. Will it still increase the airflow to make a difference in sound and performance over the k&n drop in filter? Im mainly looking for a deeper sound, better fuel economy, and a few more hps. Thanks

TravT

  • Yes, It will increase air flow a bit and you will get that old school deep sound from under the hood when you get on the gas. If I were you I would get one like the no tune required Air Raid. It has a insert called a Modular Venturi Tube which restricts the air flow just enough to not require a tune. Then if you should decide to get a tune you just remove the insert and you have a full race CAI that requires a tune. The best of both wolds. Because trust me down the road you will want a tune.

Does this need a new throttle body for will stock work? I have a 2006 ford mustang gt and I just wanted to know will the stock throttle body fit this cold air or does it need a different sized throttle body?

Venturi Removed & BAMA tune run on Octane 87? Hi! I want to now if we could use this CAI with the modular venturi tube (MVT) removed with a street tune octane 87 from BAMA? If we remove the MVT, is it mandatory to use octane 91 or better or we could use octane 87? Thanks!

Yann

  • The tunes that we create would be for having the MVT removed and they would work for any octane. The octane of the fuel is more important to spark timing within the tune than anything else.

Airaid Cold Air Intake for 05-09 GT

Installation was a breeze. Having an extra set of hands makes the process go faster. My fuel economy has improved by about 3-4 mpg. You can barely feel any increase in horsepower or torque but it's there. My favorite part is the roar you get when you gun it. Incredibly beautiful sound.

Did not have to retune as the motor started rite up and was amazed at the power gain. It turned a beast into a bigger beast. No warning lites as of now. Great service from AM as usual.

Great first mod to the car

This is the first mod that I've done on my car and also first mod that I've ever done. I found that the instructions were a little easier to read and view the pictures online rather then the ones that came in the box. The intake took about two to two and a half hours from start to finish. I noticed a very nice gain and improvement with the intake even with the insert installed. The only down side I had was that the hose on the intake by the throttle body was maybe about three inches short but it wasn't a big problem since there was an advance auto down the block which had the hose and cut it to the right length

A must have for anyone wanting that feeling of power, I have always used AIR RAID on all of my mustangs from 04-07. The CAI systems comes with a "Modular Venturi Tube" that can be removed if you have a tuner for even more air gains so you get even more bang for your buck!

    Woke the car right up.

As this is my first muscle car, i was impressed with the car in stock form. However, as I continued reading on various mustang forums, I kept reading about cold air intakes and getting a tune. I first purchased this intake because of the no tune required option. Installation was super easy, the instructions were very straight forward. If you have any mechanical aptitude whatsoever this is a breeze. Even if you don't it is such a simple install. It took around 45 minutes and I was going slow. The first thing I noticed was the sound. It makes the engine growl under acceleration. There was also a slight increase in throttle response and what seemed like a little extra hp. I installed it just before a 330 mile trip. There was a noticeable increase in mpg, by about 2-3 as far as I could tell. Great product, very fast shipping and very high quality materials. Looks like standard equipment under the hood. I now have a custom 91 octane race tune and the car is absolutely awesome. I would highly recommend this product. Don't be fooled because it's all plastic. It is a quality piece.

    Easy Installation

Its easy to install i actually removed my factory unit and installed the airaid system at night in the dark. I have noticed some horsepower gains from the airaid system and you do get a really great smelling airfreshner in the box

The first modification you should do

This is a well engineered product that installs quickly and looks stock. The sound and throttle response are immediately obivous, and this is how your mustang should have come from the factor (and it turns out it does now!) The sound at full throttle is worth the price. It's a deep growl that is all muscle car!

    AIRAID CAI

Ordered CAI late on Tuesday night and it was delivered on Thursday. Everything was in the box as indicated on the checklist and it took about 30 minutes to install carefully following the instructions. The most time consuming part was trying to cut off the fittings from the factory breather tube to install the breather hose provided in the kit in accordance with the directions. All parts of the CAI assembly itself fit perfectly and was easy to install. The only real complaint is the aluminum hose fitting provided in the kit for the valve cover breather hose is too large for the factory fitting to slide over as directed in the instructions. Also, the hose in the kit for the valve cover breather (a length of generic breather hose) is barely long enough to reach from the valve cover to the aluminum hose fitting. I will have to replace the hose from the kit with a longer one so I can clamp it to the aluminum fitting. This issue with the provided breather parts is the reason I gave only four stars for fit. If AIRAID could resolve the issues with the breather hose parts, the kit would be perfect. Prior to purchase I had seen complaints in some previous reviews about cuts on the main intake tube that caused me some concern but all of the pieces of the CAI assembly I received were pristine with no cuts or scratches. After installation, I took my GT out on my favorite piece of Interstate and I could feel a difference. I will be running the venturi tube in the CAI until finances allow the purchase of a Tuner for max effects. I am very satisfied with my purchase from AM. Thanks!
