Mach 1 Fitment I've been looking for a replacement mid-pipe for my Mach and this one seems like it would be a good choice, however, it does not say explicitly that it fits the 03-04 Mach 1 Mustangs, even though many of the alternate pipe systems are interchangeable between many of the different submodels. So will this piping fit my 2003 Mach 1 (manual transmission) or no?

  • Yes, this midpipe will fit the 2003 Mach 1 (manual transmission). 99-04 GT's, Mach 1's, Cobras all share the same midpipe. The only exception would be that for the 04 GT, Mach 1 and Cobra, O2 extensions will need to be purchased to go with the midpipe.

Will this pass California smog requirements

  • The Bassani Catted X-pipe does not have a CARB EO # and would not be legal for use in California. This would not pass smog testing.

Will this match up with a Borla ATAK Cat Back Exhaust for the 04 GT?

  • Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee fitment of the Bassani Catted X-pipe with the Borla ATAK Cat-Back Exhaust (99-04 GT, Mach 1), item # 29030, ( This Cat-Back is designed to be bolted up to the factory mid-pipe.

Will this x-pipe match up to a slp loudmouth catback exhaust or will I have issues.

  • This will match up to the SLP Loudmouth exhaust as the piping size will be the same at 2.5" and the SLP Loudmouth will come with flanges to bolt onto the X-pipe.

This says not compatible for 2003-2004 cobras but compatible for Mach1s and 99-01 Cobras. If so why isn't there an option for Cobras 2003-2004?

  • Hello! Unfortunately it looks like a transmission change may cause fitment issues with this x-pipe.

I have an 03 Mach 1... bone stock. Will this be okay with my factory cat back exhaust until I can afford to grab something new? Do I need to buy any gaskets?

  • The Bassani Catted X-pipe will work just fine with your factory exhaust. This kit is designed to be a bolt on application and give your car, even with the stock exhaust, a nice deep tone. The only fitment requirement with this exhaust is that your car is equipped with the manual transmission.

Bought this 17 years ago. Still good as new.

June of 2000 I bought my first and only brand new car: My Ford Mustang GT 'vert. 3 days later ordered this X pipe and the cat-back. When they say they're engineered to last, they are not kidding. 17 years and no rust anywhere I or my mechanic can see. And the sound of the system is just awesome. No raspy empty noise, no drone at highway, etc. A nice deep bass rumble and (at least in my ride) a nice burble-burble-burble on decel in gear. It does not need to all-out thunder roar all the time - it gets it's point across at the stoplight just fine with that bass rumble. I had it all installed together, I expect most of the sound improvement is the cat-back but the X, I'm told, changes the sound somewhat also as it's flowing differently, etc. Last word? BUY WITH CONFIDENCE! -JD

Came quick, a few days, everything needed except a new left manifold seal ($7 from auto zone). Took some time to get my old stock cats off , so soak the nuts on the manifold well with a thread buster/lube. Take negative off battery so not to make sparks with the starter. New exhaust went in easy except for the far left nut(go through the wheel well, take off the left front wheel); make sure to recheck everything tight when finished. Mach came alive with more torque, pull, life. Best catted x-pipe I could find for the price, great quality. But for me I still prefer the deep thunder of the H-pipe, I needed to wake up my Mach and needed the 20 hp that was advertised, and got it. Exhaust tone is loud, poppy, aggressive and a joy to drive. Total install time: 3-4 hours with no help/novice car mechanic.

    Perfect Fit

This x pipe is really nice and fits perfectly. It's a little expensive but you pay for what you get. Also sounds really good with or without the cats.

    Very Impressed

Bought this based off of word of mouth and I'm very impressed. The hardest part was unbolting the bolts from the headers. PB blaster and a torch was used but had no effect due to age? Ultimately I had to go to a machine shop to let them take care of it. Once they did what they did the rest of the installation was a breeze. Paired with my S-type Borla cat backs, and I really got a great sounding V8.

    Great Sounding Mid Pipe

This install was done on a 2003 GT with Kenne Bell Blower making 8 lbs of boost. This is the perfect sounding mid pipe. It has a deep, low, and well defined tone. It is not much louder than stock at idle, but at tip in, cruise, and full throttle you will definitely hear the difference. As far as power gains go; its hard to be certain, because my car was having some additional issues when I brought the car in to have the pipe installed, and the car tuned. At the end of the day I ended up picking up almost 60 rwhp from this mod and fixing the other issues the car was having. In total the car put down 400 rwhp and 400 rwtq (it had previously put down 340 rwhp, but was having fuel system issues a that time) Out on the street the car doesn't really feel that much faster, but that is probably due to a couple things 1) Power delivery seems a lot smoother, which usually makes it feel less strong because it isn't as violent. 2) My other Stang makes 620 rwhp, so driving a car with 200 less hp doesn't feel that impressive.

    Best Exhaust

I have used almost every exhaust system out there and anytime I buy a new Mustang I always put Bassani exhaust on all my cars. Its a great sounding exhaust and worth every dollar. Magnaflow is too muffled and Flowmaster is too cheap. If you want your Mustang to sound just right, then you should buy Bassani.

Probably one of the best X pipes you can get for your car in terms of fit and finish. Not to mention the sound. The difference in exhaust tone was like night and day coupled with my Borla Stingers. Ground clearance is not a problem unlike some other midpipes out there. This hangs flush with the undercarriage just like the catback. The modular design in being able to switch from the hi-flow cats to the offroad straight pipes is a nice plus too.

    Very Satisfied

I just bolted this x-pipe on my car a while ago, which only took an hour with a lift, and i must say that it bolted up flawlessly to the stock manifolds. Sounds perfect with the cats bolted on, not too loud, and less raspy as opposed to the sound with the cat delete. I must recommend the sct/x3 tuner with this mod, to really wake up your car, and there is no worry about the check engine light when you get the programmer. Thanks again, AM, for the great service and great products.

    Cats failed

Don't like to bring in bad news , but only had them in 1 year and the MIL lamp came back for the output sensors on the Cats. I still have a good system due to the MIL eliminators and I had the system installed by the pro's so I think all was done right. Still faithful to AM.

    Bassani Catted X-Pipe

Excellent quality. Good sound, better than my previous Bassani Catted X-Pipes that I had installed nine years ago. Install was easy. I had the cats welded in and the fit was tight to the chassis. No clearance issues. Note: Be sure and buy the gasket for (passenger side) header from Ford. Good customer service from American Muscle!

    Woke up the Neighborhood!

After a 3 hour single man installation, it was 1130 at night when I finally got to role my vehicle out of my garage and away from my house so I didn't wake anyone up on start up. The sound between 1000rpm-2700 rpm is a deep roar, then it turns to a NASCAR like growl. Amazing, clean, crisp and beautiful modular mustang sound. Only pointer, spray every bolt down the night before installation, seized bolts were the only hiccup with my 2004 Mach 1.

    Perfect X Pipe

This X pipe bolted up perfectly on my 01 Cobra. I had trouble with ground clearance with a previous off road H pipe so i was curious how the catted X would fit. Even with my cobra being lowerd the x pipe has great clearance and I havent had any issues at all. It has a great finish as well an awesome sound with my maganaflow catback. The cats make it not as poppy and raspy which is nice. The kit came with everything and bolted right up. Make sure to get passenger side manifold gasket thought.

Catalyst System Codes in 1 1/2 year

I have this on my 04 GT, and I too have the CEL for P0420 and P0430 - which indicates Bank 1 and Bank 2 catalyst system efficiency is below the acceptable threshold. They do sound great, but now I'm sweating my emissions test.

    The perfect midpipe

THIS MID-PIPE IS AMAZING! I had this pipe put on with the cats installed paired to a new borla stinger catback on my 2001 bullitt and it sounds like nothing i have heard before. The best sounding mustang i have ever heard and i grant that to the bassani catted x pipe. The quality is fantastic and the finish is good too. the 5 piece design makes for an easy install, just watch your clamps for exhaust leaks. This mid-pipe sits high up to the underside of car which makes clearance good so no hitting speed bumps. With this mid-pipe you wont need the o2 extensions, or at least for me i didn't need them. Factory ones work just fine. I haven't used the cat delete pipes yet but i don't think i will because the car sounds amazing with them on and with these high flow cats, the check engine light didn't come on. In other words just get this mid-pipe and you wont be disappointed!

    Fits 2003 Cobra as is

Packing was robust and can withstand UPS. Fit and finish are above expectation and a breeze to install. No leaks at header or at clamps. For 2003 Cobra, this part fit perfect without O2 extensions or concern. Ground clearance is the same if not better than stock. With cats, exhaust at idle and low rpm is on par with stock if you use the cats. Great product and great site to buy from

    Cutthroat sound, visceral experience

I ordered this x-pipe about two years ago and mated it with a set of bola stingers. My mustang is just your typical bolt on car, but it sure doesn't sound like it. This Bassani x-pipe gave my mustang the ability to scream like a banshee throughout the entire RPM band, and the option to switch between cats and off road straight pipes is an added bonus. I personally prefer the viciousness of the off road straight pipes (which is what I'm currently running), but the cats do give it a nice deep, more traditional muscle car sound. Besides WOT pulls (to the speed limit) I love letting my car get up to about 3k on the tach in third gear and letting off the gas, the exhaust crackles, spits, and burbles. Which if you haven't experienced it, it almost feels sinful to hear something that visceral. As far as performance goes, the x-pipe definitely flows better than the stock h-pipe, which adds a couple ponies to the wheels. While you won''t really notice the slight, slight increase in horsepower you will notice the vastly improved throttle response. If combined with a good catback exhaust and maybe a tune, the demeanor of your mustang will change entirely. The unfathomable sound and improved throttle response will ensure a couple more smiles per gallon.
