Description
Gain Up to 12HP. Gain up to 12 horsepower by replacing your restrictive factory throttle body with a free-flowing BBK 70mm throttle body. Your stock throttle body chokes off the airflow right where it matters most - by letting your Mustang's engine breathe better, you'll increase power and improve throttle response for power you can really feel.

70MM Bore. This BBK throttle body features a generous, free flowing 70mm single bore design that is great for naturally aspirated Mustangs.

CNC Machined Aluminum. BBK's throttle bodies are cast from high quality, lightweight 356 aluminum alloy that is finished using CNC machining to ensure a precision fit. They feature double-sealed bearings, o-ringed throttle shafts, and precision die-stamped linkages to ensure a long life and maximum performance for your Pony.

Bolt-On Installation. The BBK Throttle Body is designed for a straightforward installation and includes all necessary hardware. It is designed to be installed reusing the factory throttle body gasket making it a no-hassle mod.

Application. This BBK 70mm Throttle Body is designed for the 1996 to 2004 Mustang GT with the 4.6L engine.

Technical Notes. This BBK throttle body is CARB certified (CARB EO Number: D-245-13) and 50 state legal.

Hey guys, I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and today I have two different throttle body options from BBK Performance. I’m taking a look at the 70 and 75mm throttle body for the 4.6L V8 found in all 96-04 Mustang GTs. BBK is one of those companies that lives and dies on Mustangs and late model EFI performance, and it shows with all their quality parts, including these throttle bodies. Now both of these options would be a huge upgrade over the ultra restrictive 56mm factory throttle body. Now depending on your setup either the 70 or 75mm throttle body might work out a little better for you, but that all depends on your mods. The 70mm version will be great for those of you with mild bolt-ons, you know, intakes, header, exhaust, those sorts of things. Now this would be a great complement to those mods, and free up any additional power being held back by an ultra restrictive factory throttle body. The larger 75mm version is geared towards more of a radical setup – big cams, nitrous, high compression or forced induction, that would need maximum airflow. Both of these throttle bodies are CNC’d from high quality aluminum alloy and feature beefed up components that will only add to the longevity and quality of these throttle bodies. Neither of these throttle bodies require a tune but it’s always recommended to make the most out of any additional mods. Installing these new throttle bodies is very straight forward and should only take you about an hour. All you have to do is remove the factory throttle body, transfer the TPS sensor over to the new BBK throttle body, using the included gasket. After that, reinstall the new BBK throttle body and you should be good to go. So if you’re looking for more ways to help your 2 valve 4.6 breath a little easier, and you’ve already taken care of the basics, then you’ll definitely want to check out these throttle bodies from BBK Performance.

Ask a Question

Can this be mounted to the 78mm body? I bought the 78mm BBK unit from AM and my GT is stumbling at hard accel. Either looking for straight forward answer re: updating my tune/program or just dropping back to the 70mm TB. Suggestions?

Miyagi

  • If your Mustang only has a few bolt-on mods, then it's likely the 78mm Throttle Body is too much. Without a heavily modified engine or FI, there isn't enough air flow to benefit from such a large TB (the 78mm). The 70mm Throttle Body is more than enough for any mild to moderately modded Stang and should help correct the issue you described. Hope this helps! If you have any further questions, don't hesitate to give us a call!

Question Resolved

It looks like this throttle body is CARB certified, but only for 96-01 models. Does this mean my 02 GT wouldn't pass smog in California with this installed? If that's the case, are there any 70mm throttle bodies available that would pass smog on my 02 GT?

Is it recomended to also upgrade the upper intake plenum? i've been doing a little research and it seems like you do no need to

bingman

  • Yes, I would change the plenum as well. American Muscle sells a combo kit with a larger plenum and throttle body

    BBK FTW!

So I replaced the old factory Throttle Body with this BBK 70mm. I was impressed with how well it fit, and it came with new gasket, all the required bolts, and even a new tps sensor!.. The performance gain was decently noticeable and smoother vs stock. But I also Have an AEM short ram intake and C&L Plenum... Its a great combo if you live in CA because its all Carb Legal.

    03 GT

Immediately felt the increase in power. Added with a BBK Cold Air Kit and it not only runs great - it looks great as well. You can hear the air whistle at the Throttle Body and bringing the increased air to the plenum. Easy to install in less than 30 minutes!!

good gain for the time and money

A very easy installation on either a stock intake or a CAI. This fits just as well as the stock throttle body and gives a noticeable improvement in throttle respose. This part is a very good early modification for a performance enthusiast. Combine with a tune for even better results. This product exceeded expecations, thanks AM!

    bbk throttle body

BBK says you get 8-10 extra HP but here's my take. you get that power if you are going for a heavily modified stang. If its force inducted, you will get more power because you are getting more airflow. However, the naturally aspired mustang only takes in so much air and even too big a TB will actually hurt performance. My advice is do your homework and don't follow the crowd. Everyone runs a different setup and the gains if any on a N/A car will be minimal. It would be great if these companies would clarify the "true" power gains of these mods on modified and N/A cars....aside from that AM is the best!!!
