What gains will I see in hp? I've put these on my 2012 Mustang and I was just wondering what kind of gains in HP I should be having.

  • Realistically the numbers are small 3 to 5. A small increase in fuel economy depending on your driving habits.

Weep holes I was wondering if these mufflers need weep holes drilled in them, not to stop rust since they are SS but due to thwe fact if water collects in them, it could effect the sound. Does anyone know? Love these mufflers!!! Sound awesome.

  • I had these installed mid Sept. Just had them off to put the factory back on for the winter. Quite a lot of water build up in just 2 months!!! Have drained them and drilled 2 small 3/16ths holes on the lower leading edge to solve the problem when they go back on in the spring. If you look at the factory mufflers they have the same 2 holes already drilled into them. Anyone installing these should do the same. Perhaps it should be done by Ford Racing!!

Does this exhaust increase the HP at all? If so, by how much? Is there any drone at any speed?

  • Axle backs will not really increase the horse power at all. You will get a little better airflow resulting in very minor numbers. However the Ford Performance Sport Axle-Back Exhaust (11-14 V6) is a great sounding exhaust however drone does very on a case by case situation.

These axle backs are boss. Low growl, clean, and loud as heck when you lay the hammer! If you are looking for a slight upgrade in the volume, then look at FRPP or Borla Touring. These things are heard for blocks if you get the revs above 2500. Install went fairly easy, just had to bend some of the bars to make them hang properly, but I recommend this as a 2 person job if you are not using a lift. Overall volume was a bit higher than expected, but once they are in, you can't help but smile and feel like they were meant to be in the car. AM extremely fast to ship, Ordered on Tuesday night, got them in Canada Friday and installed Saturday. Exceptional service from AM!

First, let me say thank you to American Muscle. Easy transaction, here in two days, without a scratch or a ding. American Muscle was perfect, the only place i'll order from...ever! As for the exhaust??? OH YEAH! These sound great. I didn't install, had them put on at my dealership for $50, and picked her up two hrs later. The tips look fantastic. First thing you notice when you at look the 'stang, and the Ford Racing stamps on the top are really nice. The sound itself is fantastic, as long as you realize you are not getting a v8 sound. This is a v6, it will not sound like your granddaddy's GT, but it will sound good. Nice and deep. Crank has a deep rumble, louder than OEM, and calms down to factory levels. Hit the gas and its all power. Sounds like a race car. Much louder than stock, but not overly so, and certainly not obnoxious. At cruise, its quiet, no problems listening to music or using sync. But hit the gas and head into the high rpms and she will scream. Im in love! I just spent a few hundred bucks and my car sounds like a performance car that cost many thousands more. and absolutely no drone. the one thing that i don't like is there is a little popping between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd when you are babying it. If you're stepping on it, no pop. Maybe it will go away after a few miles, i've only had it now for a few hrs. 97/100!!!

    Sounds great

Just got this axle back exhaust system and it sounds amazing, way way better than stock. It took me just over 2 hours to install, I am by no means a mechanic but using basic tools it was overall pretty easy to do and turned out great. In the low rpm's it's not much louder than stock but as soon as you hit the throttle it roars to life!

    Ford Racing Sport Mufflers

They have a DEEP and fairly loud tone at start up, and tones down a bit after start up. I purchased these after countless listening to video clips online. I wanted something much louder than the passive sounding stock exhaust. These are MUCH louder when starting up and driving. If you have an automatic, they sound good. An automatic in SPORT mode sounds much better. An automatic in SPORT mode with you shifting the gears, they sound GREAT. A manual V6 mustang will sound GREAT!!!!!. I have an automatic. If I had an manual transmission, I would give these 6 stars on a 5 star scale. Anyone with a V6 and a manual transmission, this is a MUST BUY period. They do align lower than the stock mufflers, so it is tricky to align these , but they look great. They do quiet down a little when coasting, so you can sneak in and out of you neighbor hood early in the morning or late at night. But rest assured, they ROAR to life when you accelerate. I have had these about 2 weeks. The longer I have them, the more I like them. I would definitely buy again.

    Sounds much better than stock

Hopefully this will be an objective review that will help those with V6 engines. The good: -Above 2800 RPM it screams and the sound is perfect. The sound is not ever going to be a V8, but it is a much deeper that stock and does have sound of pure performance. -The look is amazing and much better than stock. First thing you will notice is the tips protrude further back from the bumper than stock which creates a nice stance on the back. also wider diameter than stock and edges are rolled which gives the appearance of a much wider side wall construction. Lastly the "Ford Racing" logo is sweet. -As for performance... being an axleback rather than a catback I'm not feeling much of a performance boost. However, when you punch it and she screams it makes you think its faster :) -Fit and finish is perfect However, you will need to take off the factory clamps as none come with this unit. The factory mufflers on my car had the clamps tig welded so I had to bend it and snap it off. No big deal. -There are guys that report moisture buildup and some drill a weep hole to allow moisture to escape. However, I have not seen this to be the case yet (on for about a month). The not so good: -As I read the reviews from other V6 owners no one mentioned the drone. In fact most say there is no drone. However, yes there is a drone... luckily its not too bad and certainly not in the entire RPM range. However, on my V6 I do get a drone in the lower RPM range. Specifically between 2000-2800. Lower than 2000 it purrs and is quiet no drone but also little of that nice note that we are looking for also. My highway RPM is typically 2200 or so and I do hear a drone. However, the drone level is loudest at the higher range mentioned. I did insulate my trunk to keep the unwanted sound out. It's not terrible but is noticeable and not everyone would have an issue here but would have been nice to know. Overall a great upgrade to any V6 and the place to buy it is at American Muscle. Simply the number one place to shop for mustang parts. always fast to ship and awesome bunch of guys/gals to help with any questions you have. Sorry its lengthy but I know I would have appreciated this type of review when I was looking into this item.

the sound is amazing. i have a set of the longtube headers and off road X-pipe, these mufflers are a perfect match with them. took about 30 mins to install most of it was positioning it just right. it gives a very deep not to loud rumble when in idle and the lower rpms. But when you open it up it really comes alive. if you are looking for that low muscle car sound i highly recomend these.

Everything I was wanting and more!

If you're looking for an exhaust that's loud and aggressive when you want it to be, and easy to live with everyday, this is definitely the exhaust for you. SO much deeper than stock, gives an incredible boost in appearance to the rear end of the car, and just sounds awesome. This exhaust is perfect. No drone, gets pretty loud in the cabin around 2000-2200 RPM but that's it. I had a shop install it because it was really cold when I got the car so I didn't want to do it myself, but the guy at the sop said it fit perfectly. I put 4 stars out of 5 for bang for your buck because $670 is a lot to drop on an exhaust, but it's definitely worth it. If you're even thinking about getting this exhaust, just do it. You won't regret it.

love the look and sound of the exhaust. Although there is a small "pop" between the lower gears when driven easily, it sounds great....especially when you stand on it! Very satisfied with the purchase....can't say my wife feels the same!

    Great sounding exhaust

After countless sounds clips of various exhaust for about a month I decided to go with these Ford Racing ones. I was torn between getting these or the Borla S-type. Then I saw some posts saying that Borla actually manufactures these ones for Ford, that locked in my decision. Also looking at the past reviews help. This exhaust has the best low end sound compared to all the others I have heard online. I do like the fact that the tips say Ford Racing on them also. When just cruising on highway at around 70 mph it is very subtle and can still use things like SYNC without any issues. Don't get me wrong though, people will still hear you coming! Great muscle car sound for a V6 and not annoyingly loud or high pitched like others I heard. I bit pricey but like they say you get what you pay for and I am VERY happy with this purchase. I highly recommend these to anyone.

    Nice Exhaust

This exhaust will definetley make your 6 sound like the monster it should be. Installation took me and a friend about an 1-1/2hrs to do. Very easy to install. This exhaust is a BIG improvement over the stock. From the shiney chrome tips to the amazing sound that it gives. There is no popping sound with mine as some others have said. I love the interior sound it gives off, you can still have a conversation or listen to your radio. this exhaust will turn heads when they hear you coming...

    No better exhaust

Installation was very simple and easy. It took me about an hour to have both on. No jacks required as I just parked on my driveway apron. This exhaust gives the car a very deep tone that I couldn't find anywhere else. When I get on the throttle, they come to life and sound like amazing! They are quiet when driving normal so you can control it. Idle sounds very muscle like! I I gave everything 5 stars except bang for your buck since these are pricey! It's a big purchase only for the sound but I don't regret it.

    Words cannot descibe...

This exhaust is just amazing. I really cannot put into words (or even a video!) just how awesome this exhaust sounds. The moment I first drove with these on I succumbed to lead foot disease. Your mileage WILL go down 1-3 MPG not because of the mufflers but because you won't be able to take your foot off the gas pedal! So far this is THE best mod I have made to my V6 and although these are a little pricey it was so worth it. It's almost as if my wallet was smiling when I paid for these. If you have any doubt in your mind please hire someone to erase your mind. This is a must for every V6 owner!

    Not too loud, just right

If you're looking for something that's not too obnoxiously loud, but sounds more aggressive than stock, this is perfect. It amplifies a deep and clean purr when accelerating while rowing through gears in daily driving, but gets progressively louder when you reach higher revs on the track. At idle (after revs settle down from cold start), it is almost indistinguishable from stock. With 3.31 gears, no drone (or even much of a sound at all) at 70 MPH. At around 80 MPH and 2400-2500 RPM however, the exhaust is heard in the cabin, but still does not overcome, say, the radio volume at 6 notches. Cruising on local streets at 40-50 MPH at 5th or 6th gear is also very close to stock, in terms of sound output. One sound aspect to note is that the backfire burble is much louder when dropping revs. Most noticeable during a 1-2 and 2-3 up-shift if shifting is done at 3000 RPM. Curiously, if you shift at higher RPMs, this burble is almost non-existent. The 3.5" tips are the same as stock, but appear to fill out the rear valance a little better due to the thickness of the stainless steel tips. The Ford Racing logo etched on the tips are a nice touch - the tips stick out just enough to show them. Installation was straightforward. The hangers were slightly misaligned, making them a little difficult to insert into the exhaust hangers, but final positioning was corrected during the process of tightening the exhaust pipe clamp. Overall, this is exactly what I was looking for. Something that doesn't attract a lot of attention...unless you want it to.

    Perfect Rumble..

Product is relatively simple to install (and uninstall if need be) and the quality is superb. Very little effort was required to get the tips lined up properly. What's most enjoyable is the sound; no other set of mufflers is going to get as low AND as loud without breaking into a higher sound register. For just a little more than its competitors, my feeling is that the FRPP sport exhaust is well worth its price. Get the best and be done with it, if you can swing it.

    Great Axle-Back Product

I spent a lot of time looking at the various axle-back alternatives and there are many. I settled on the Ford Racing Sport Axle-Backs and for me they were the right choice. The quality of the product and the exhaust note is perfect, a nice deep, throaty note that's about as close to a V8 as you can get. The installation was reasonable except for some instructions that were slightly out of order and some muffler hangers that had to be tweaked a bit to get both sides symmetrical. They are a quality product.

Very nice looking product with a great sound!

I have a 2014, V6, AT, Aiirraid CAI, approx. 5,000 miles. After doing all the reseach and listening to alll the videos I could find online, I selected the "Sport" FRPP axle-backs. The sound is much more sports-car like and has a nice thoaty sound. It is not overly loud, you can still hold a normal voice level conversation at hightway speeds. The sound is just what I was hoping for, as you go 2 & 3 gears (in maual shift mode for me)@approx. 3,500 rpm, it happy with the quality and sound of the product. These are about 25-30 pounds lighter than stock also. I had them shop installed, they made it look easy...... but they had a lift, tools and 2 people working on it.

Not as loud as I had hoped...

The Ford Racing Sport Axle-backs are a decent improvement over the already impressive sounding stock mufflers. I love the deep exhaust note, but my only problem with the new set-up is that it isn't loud enough for me! The volume is only slightly louder than stock when accelerating normally. I will admit that they do sound great when accelerating aggressively; you just have to roll down the windows to enjoy them. They're probably loud enough for most people, but for some reason I was really anticipating having to crank up the radio more than usual after installing these. I guess my unsatisfied craving for more volume justifies purchasing headers in the near future... Realistically though, if you want to purchase mufflers that retain a deep tone even at high revs, remain subtle until you floor it, reduce the weight of your car, and improve the appearance of your rear-end, then these are the ones to get.
