Weep holes I was wondering if these mufflers need weep holes drilled in them, not to stop rust since they are SS but due to thwe fact if water collects in them, it could effect the sound. Does anyone know? Love these mufflers!!! Sound awesome.

JCStang Year: 2012 Model: V6

  • I had these installed mid Sept. Just had them off to put the factory back on for the winter. Quite a lot of water build up in just 2 months!!! Have drained them and drilled 2 small 3/16ths holes on the lower leading edge to solve the problem when they go back on in the spring. If you look at the factory mufflers they have the same 2 holes already drilled into them. Anyone installing these should do the same. Perhaps it should be done by Ford Racing!!

First, let me say thank you to American Muscle. Easy transaction, here in two days, without a scratch or a ding. American Muscle was perfect, the only place i'll order from...ever! As for the exhaust??? OH YEAH! These sound great. I didn't install, had them put on at my dealership for $50, and picked her up two hrs later. The tips look fantastic. First thing you notice when you at look the 'stang, and the Ford Racing stamps on the top are really nice. The sound itself is fantastic, as long as you realize you are not getting a v8 sound. This is a v6, it will not sound like your granddaddy's GT, but it will sound good. Nice and deep. Crank has a deep rumble, louder than OEM, and calms down to factory levels. Hit the gas and its all power. Sounds like a race car. Much louder than stock, but not overly so, and certainly not obnoxious. At cruise, its quiet, no problems listening to music or using sync. But hit the gas and head into the high rpms and she will scream. Im in love! I just spent a few hundred bucks and my car sounds like a performance car that cost many thousands more. and absolutely no drone. the one thing that i don't like is there is a little popping between 1st and 2nd and 2nd and 3rd when you are babying it. If you're stepping on it, no pop. Maybe it will go away after a few miles, i've only had it now for a few hrs. 97/100!!!

    Sounds great

Just got this axle back exhaust system and it sounds amazing, way way better than stock. It took me just over 2 hours to install, I am by no means a mechanic but using basic tools it was overall pretty easy to do and turned out great. In the low rpm's it's not much louder than stock but as soon as you hit the throttle it roars to life!

    Ford Racing Sport Mufflers

They have a DEEP and fairly loud tone at start up, and tones down a bit after start up. I purchased these after countless listening to video clips online. I wanted something much louder than the passive sounding stock exhaust. These are MUCH louder when starting up and driving. If you have an automatic, they sound good. An automatic in SPORT mode sounds much better. An automatic in SPORT mode with you shifting the gears, they sound GREAT. A manual V6 mustang will sound GREAT!!!!!. I have an automatic. If I had an manual transmission, I would give these 6 stars on a 5 star scale. Anyone with a V6 and a manual transmission, this is a MUST BUY period. They do align lower than the stock mufflers, so it is tricky to align these , but they look great. They do quiet down a little when coasting, so you can sneak in and out of you neighbor hood early in the morning or late at night. But rest assured, they ROAR to life when you accelerate. I have had these about 2 weeks. The longer I have them, the more I like them. I would definitely buy again.

    Sounds much better than stock

Hopefully this will be an objective review that will help those with V6 engines. The good: -Above 2800 RPM it screams and the sound is perfect. The sound is not ever going to be a V8, but it is a much deeper that stock and does have sound of pure performance. -The look is amazing and much better than stock. First thing you will notice is the tips protrude further back from the bumper than stock which creates a nice stance on the back. also wider diameter than stock and edges are rolled which gives the appearance of a much wider side wall construction. Lastly the "Ford Racing" logo is sweet. -As for performance... being an axleback rather than a catback I'm not feeling much of a performance boost. However, when you punch it and she screams it makes you think its faster :) -Fit and finish is perfect However, you will need to take off the factory clamps as none come with this unit. The factory mufflers on my car had the clamps tig welded so I had to bend it and snap it off. No big deal. -There are guys that report moisture buildup and some drill a weep hole to allow moisture to escape. However, I have not seen this to be the case yet (on for about a month). The not so good: -As I read the reviews from other V6 owners no one mentioned the drone. In fact most say there is no drone. However, yes there is a drone... luckily its not too bad and certainly not in the entire RPM range. However, on my V6 I do get a drone in the lower RPM range. Specifically between 2000-2800. Lower than 2000 it purrs and is quiet no drone but also little of that nice note that we are looking for also. My highway RPM is typically 2200 or so and I do hear a drone. However, the drone level is loudest at the higher range mentioned. I did insulate my trunk to keep the unwanted sound out. It's not terrible but is noticeable and not everyone would have an issue here but would have been nice to know. Overall a great upgrade to any V6 and the place to buy it is at American Muscle. Simply the number one place to shop for mustang parts. always fast to ship and awesome bunch of guys/gals to help with any questions you have. Sorry its lengthy but I know I would have appreciated this type of review when I was looking into this item.

Everything I was wanting and more!

If you're looking for an exhaust that's loud and aggressive when you want it to be, and easy to live with everyday, this is definitely the exhaust for you. SO much deeper than stock, gives an incredible boost in appearance to the rear end of the car, and just sounds awesome. This exhaust is perfect. No drone, gets pretty loud in the cabin around 2000-2200 RPM but that's it. I had a shop install it because it was really cold when I got the car so I didn't want to do it myself, but the guy at the sop said it fit perfectly. I put 4 stars out of 5 for bang for your buck because $670 is a lot to drop on an exhaust, but it's definitely worth it. If you're even thinking about getting this exhaust, just do it. You won't regret it.

    Excellent product

love the look and sound of the exhaust. Although there is a small "pop" between the lower gears when driven easily, it sounds great....especially when you stand on it! Very satisfied with the purchase....can't say my wife feels the same!

the sound is amazing. i have a set of the longtube headers and off road X-pipe, these mufflers are a perfect match with them. took about 30 mins to install most of it was positioning it just right. it gives a very deep not to loud rumble when in idle and the lower rpms. But when you open it up it really comes alive. if you are looking for that low muscle car sound i highly recomend these.

    Not too loud, just right

If you're looking for something that's not too obnoxiously loud, but sounds more aggressive than stock, this is perfect. It amplifies a deep and clean purr when accelerating while rowing through gears in daily driving, but gets progressively louder when you reach higher revs on the track. At idle (after revs settle down from cold start), it is almost indistinguishable from stock. With 3.31 gears, no drone (or even much of a sound at all) at 70 MPH. At around 80 MPH and 2400-2500 RPM however, the exhaust is heard in the cabin, but still does not overcome, say, the radio volume at 6 notches. Cruising on local streets at 40-50 MPH at 5th or 6th gear is also very close to stock, in terms of sound output. One sound aspect to note is that the backfire burble is much louder when dropping revs. Most noticeable during a 1-2 and 2-3 up-shift if shifting is done at 3000 RPM. Curiously, if you shift at higher RPMs, this burble is almost non-existent. The 3.5" tips are the same as stock, but appear to fill out the rear valance a little better due to the thickness of the stainless steel tips. The Ford Racing logo etched on the tips are a nice touch - the tips stick out just enough to show them. Installation was straightforward. The hangers were slightly misaligned, making them a little difficult to insert into the exhaust hangers, but final positioning was corrected during the process of tightening the exhaust pipe clamp. Overall, this is exactly what I was looking for. Something that doesn't attract a lot of attention...unless you want it to.
