Review & Install Video

This is the Ford racing cold air intake kit for the 2005-2009 Mustang V6. Hi, I’m Mike Wilson with AmericanMuscle.com, we’re going to show you what kind of horse power and torque numbers to expect when you combine this with a Bama performance 93 octane race tune. But first, we’re going to make a stock dyno run so we have some baseline horse power and torque numbers to start with. Stock, our 2005 V6 automatic put down 172 horse power, and 196 ft/lbs of torque. The Ford racing cold air intake kit replaces your factory restrictive air box, with a higher flow air filter and mass air housing, which will increase horse power, torque, acceleration, and give you a throaty engine sound. And with the Ford racing logo proudly displayed, it’ll increase the under hood appearance of your Mustang. Now we’re going to install this cold air intake, which should take less than an hour, and can be done with simple hand tools you have at home. Along with the cold air intake, we also installed one of our 93 octane Bama race tunes. A custom tune from Bama performance adjusts engine parameters to maximize performance, through optimized air/fuel ratio, spark advance, enhanced throttle response, and for automatics, increased shift firmness and adjustable shift points. Now let’s make another dyno run, and see what kind of horse power and torque numbers we get. With the Ford racing cold air intake and a Bama performance tune, our car put down 190 horse power and 221 ft/lbs of torque, we’re seeing gains of as much as 25 horse power and 36 ft/lbs of torque throughout the curve. So we installed the Ford racing cold air intake and a Bama performance tune using simple hand tools all in under an hour’s time, and picked up as much as 25 horse power and 36 ft/lbs of torque.

  • At the current time, the replacement filter is not available through AmericanMuscle. However, you can purchase the replacement filter, M-9601-B, directly through Ford Racing. Hope this helps!

Are there reusable filters that fit this CAI? Are there reusable filters that fit this CAI? I understand the FRPP CAI requires the filter to replaced rather than cleaned an reused.

    Ford Racing Cold Air Intake

Very good product, easy installation just be careful Mass Air Flow Sensor and you should be fine. Installed in about 45 mins, after about a day the check engine light did come on, but no problems have occured to date (4 mnths later). Now to performance, without tuning the engine there still is a nice gain, throttle response has improved greatly in the lower rpms and slightly in the higher as far as MPG's i averaged about 18mpg in the city (and i do have a lead foot) and an awsome 24mpg on my road trip to new mexico. The stock exhaust does sound meaner now too and as you come off the line you can hear the intake bringing in the air along with the tires screetching if you steep on it hard enough. Overall excellent buy, would defenetly recommend for any V6 owner looking to get more out of his car and personally i love the way the Ford Racing logo looks under the hood with the big intake

If your looking to make back the cost of the cai and the required tuner, by savings on fuel economy don't buy this. But if you want better sound and acceleration from your mustang this will definitely help! The cai and custom tune do increase your fuel economy, but not enough for you to ever feasibly make back the money you spend on them. I have a 2006 v6

Ford Racing CAI for 4-L V-6

I've had the CAI installed for about 6 weeks. Likes: Easy to install, it appears the stock intake tube is the same as the new one with the CAI, but I did use the new one. Looks like factory, being from Ford, guess it would. Fitment was good, all hoses, lines, connectors, lined up perfectly. I decided on this unit, because the insulation under the hood is designed for this unit. The top edge of the air box fits in a groove on the bottom of the hood insulation. This makes a near perfect fit and insures that intake air is coming from the grille area, not from the hot engine compartment. Dislikes: Only real disappointment is the air filter is not cleanable/reusable. It's supposed to be replaced. Would still buy this unit, as the positives outweighed this one negative.

    Ford Racing Cold Air Intake

This item was very easy to install. It came with instructions but it was pretty self explanatory when you looked at how it hooked up. It mounts in place of your old air box and the ‘tube' end connects to your throttle body. Be patient when disconnecting/reconnecting your vacuum line and careful when you do the same with your MAFS. It's easy to do, but you don't want to damage those parts. Installation took about 20 minutes. Once installed, the part looks amazing and it sounds awesome sucking in loads of air for your motor. Combined with a custom tune from your SCT tuner, you can feel in the seat of your pants when hitting the throttle. More air + tune = more ponies. There is a very noticeable increase in power. This is a great first step in building a respectable V-6 Mustang.

    worth the money

The only disappointment with this was Ford Racing couldn't be bothered to include instructions. I still would have bought it though. It was a fast easy install and with the Bama tune WOW! What a difference.

    Ford Racing CAI

Really happy with the Ford CAI, got it withe the SCT combo package. Install was easy, took about a half hour. Stuck with the Ford CAI, as the bottom of the hood insulation has a groove in it where the top of the CAI surround fits. This really blocks out hot engine air and funnels in cold air from the grille area. Great product from a great retailer.

    One Great Intake

For anyone that wants a great looking and slightly less expensive intake, this is for you! The fit and finish of the product is very nice and the performance improvement when combined with a tune is impressive. My only concern with this intake is that it did not come with installation instruction. Its easy enough to figure out but, a bit of guidance would be nice. All in all, a great product!

    Looks cool installed

I got this cold air intake with the SF3 bama tuner. I felt the gain mostly cause of the tuner, but the intake looks nice being Ford Racing
