Top speed increase? If the limiter is removed from my 99 v6, will this driveshaft allow my mustang to go faster safely? Will it be able to stand up to the higher speeds and not fall apart like the 2011 stock driveshaft? Thanks.

  • Going faster and doing so safely are not necessarily conducive to each other, but the aluminum driveshaft helps to reduce harmonics and vibrations which should in theory allow you to go faster in a safer manner. I have an aluminum Ford Racing driveshaft myself behind a 400+ HP engine and it has held up just fine so far. I think you will be pleased with purchasing one for your car.

Will this fit my 03 Mustang GT Automatic Tranmission if I change the front yoke? Or do I need a different driveshaft?

  • The Ford Performance Aluminum Driveshaft - 28 Spline (79-95 5.0L; 94-04 V6) is designed for the fox body mustangs and the 94-04 V6 mustangs. You will need a different draftshaft for the 03 GT.

I have 94 GT with an 04 cobra IRS in it, i did not do the conversion. It has a steel drive shaft in it built buy a local shop to make the conversion work. It has a vibration over 60 mph, tires wheels have been balanced, drive line angles corrected with FTBR bushings/shims (pinion was pointed down), and the driveline was removed and balanced by a "drive line shop". The shop did say the drive line was bent and that they straightened it and rebalanced it. It did not change the vibration. There is no question it is the driveline that is causing the issue, I want to put an undamaged aluminum ford racing unit in and have been told by others that this driveline is perfect for the conversion, my question is, are the pinion flanges the same as the cobras? if not, are the ujoints the same so i can just swap yolks on the pinion side? Thanks for any info.

Will I need to get the driveshaft balanced at a shop? or is it ready to go as is?

  • As long as it is being installed in a 1979-1995 5.0L Mustang's with T-5/SROD/C-4/A0D Transmission, 1979-1993 5.0L's with Tremec Transmissions, or 1994-2004 3.8/3.9L V6 Mustangs with a T-5 Transmission, the Ford Performance Aluminum Driveshaft - 28 Spline (79-95 5.0L; 94-04 V6) will bolt right up!

    Nice Finish-Up bolt-on

This mod is great for a modest increase in horsepower and torque; its not night and day difference but it is worth it. I purchased this after installing 4.10 gears and love how the car feels now.

    Well worth it

I am stationed in Germany and drive a 99 V6 with 60K miles on it as my DD. Since the driving speed limits are quite a bit higher here a smooth ride is very important. Before the driveshat swap I noticed a lot of vibration through various gears and the car was always a bit sluggish. Now that I put the Ford Racing Driveshaft on I've noticed a lighter and quicker launch, my car takes hills a lot better (coupled with a LOK limited slip rear differential, also by FR) and there is a significantly lower amount of vibration through the gears and RPM ranges, especially in 2nd and 5th gear. Prior to the swap, I would get a lot of vibration and whine through my Steeda Tri Ax shifter and now it is all gone, even at 120 MPH. My car handles on the autobahn better and I would recommend this part to any V6 enthusiast. I also own a 2010 GT and find good upgrade parts hard to find for the V6 community as compared to the V6's older brother, the GT. So as always, thanks AM for remembering us '6 bangers' too.

    Perfect fit for my V6

I have a '99 3.8L with a T5 manual trans. I also swapped in an 8.8 rear out of a GT. This was the perfect fit for my car. Lighter and much nicer than the stock one. Helped out getting rid of some vibration when cruising at highway speeds in 5th gear.

    Makes a Difference

My old driveshaft had badly worn U-Joints, so I decided to buy the FRP Aluminum Driveshaft. There is a lot less vibration from the drivetrain at highway speeds now. It's noticeably smoother and a bit quicker to accelerate as well.

    Light Weight Power

I'm running a 3.8 Automatic. After installing new 3.73 gears and an LSD, my stock rusted driveshaft acquired a bit of a vibration around 80mph and higher. Decided to drop some money into this Aluminum Ford Racing Driveshaft, and am definitely happy with the outcome. The car drives much smoother from start to finish - Even at 110mph! Seems to accelerate a bit quicker too. Take a moment to hold the stock driveshaft in comparison to the aluminum... the difference is incredible. To be honest, this part is a little pricey, but I think it's worth it, since it looks and feels high quality. Installation is very quick and easy. 4 Bolts to the rear end, drop and pull out the old driveshaft, slide in the new one, and reinstall the bolts. Cake ;)

    Aluminum Driveshaft

This is a must upgrade for people looking to get real rear wheel horse, Lighter weight drive train means a better performance and gear play through the transmission from the difference in weight ratio, when you take a moment to hold the stock shaft as apposed to the aluminum shaft, the weight difference is incredible.

    Smooth as glass.

I have a 2001 v6 convertible so mine is the application requiring the use of the factory yoke. It was a little disappointing since the factory yoke is big and heavy with a large damper on it. Other than that, it is great. I never thought I had any vibration until it was gone. Now it drives smooth as glass. I have 4:10 gears and now it is hard to keep her under 70 on the highway. My pony just wants to run. I live in the Texas Hill country and the lighter weight helps on the hills. It is a little pricey, but nothing is too good for my baby.

    Smoothed up my ride!

Perfect fit for my 1993 t-5 2.3L. Installed it with a new tailshaft bushing. My car used to shake a lot at highway speeds now its smoothed out, power also increased I can tell because I can hear my tires squeal when I powershift into 2nd and 3rd. The split second of tire burning when I powershift makes me feel happy that I bought it.

    Aluminum Driveshaft for V6 Mustang

A good friend gave me a hand with installing this product into my car after the U-joint started causing a lot of unwanted vibration. Once the factory shaft was removed and the Yoke assembly swapped to the new one (automatic transmission), the new Shaft went in with relative ease. From disassembly to install, we spent roughly an hour under the car with basic hand tools. We did not have the car raised up high enough on the jack stands, so we also had to top up the transmission fluid. Once assembled and back on her feet, we took her for a few laps around the block. The first thing I noticed is how much quicker the Tachometer cycles up the rpms when my favorite pedal is pressed. Much more rev happy...and alive! Cruising down the Interstate is more enjoyable again since the vibrations are gone. Any time I ever need a new part for my car, I'll always come to AM first.

i have a 92 mustang the car was making a crazy vibration from the shifter area around 65-70mph when i read all the great reviews on the driveshaft i new i had to purchase it. i like to take the car on road trips and with the vibration it made u not want to drive the car. it took about an hour to install. if you have full exhaust out the back you will be fine but if you have dumpers under the car you will have to remove just one muffler to be able to get the new driveshaft in cause its a bit fatter. all said and done i had the car had 100mph and it was as smooth as can be. truly makes driving the car so much better. and its a bit faster off the line which is always an added bonus. the drive shaft was worth every penny.
