More Power, Better Response. Produce more power and improve throttle response by replacing the restrictive stock throttle body with the same throttle body found on the Shelby GT500 along with a 1/2" adapter plate.

Shelby GT500 Throttle Body. This upgrade kit includes the same exact Twin Blade Throttle Body that came as standard equipment on the 2007 to 2010 Shelby GT500 upgrading you from 55mm to 60mm for better airflow and more power.

1/2" Adapter Plate. The included 1/2" billet adapter plate is five-axis CNC-machined to exactly match the center of the GT500's throttle body bores with the exact center of the factory 4.6 3V intake manifold bores for a smooth tapered transition. The adapter plate includes required template to modify the GT500 throttle body and an OEM-style seal for a seamless installation.

Light Drilling Required. The Shelby GT500 Twin Blade Throttle Body and 1/2" Adapter are designed to install in under two hours with just basic hand tools. The GT500 throttle body will need to be drilled out using the provided template.

Required Upgrade. To realize the full power potential that this Ford Racing Throttle Body has to offer, AmericanMuscle recommends a custom Bama tune with a Mustang Handheld Tuner to reprogram the vehicles computer (ECU) for proper operation.

Application. This Shelby GT500 60mm Twin Blade Throttle Body and 1/2" Adapter Kit is designed to fit the 2005 to 2010 4.6L V8 Mustangs, including the GT and Bullitt models. Technical Note: The included Shelby GT500 Twin Blade throttle body will require light modification/drilling to install correctly with the included adapter plate.

  • You will most likely have to find a silicone reducer boot since the GT 500 throttle body measures about an inch larger than stock. Simple to find and fit.

Why would one choose the 60mm over one of the 62mm offerings? This part was recommended to me to compliment the FRPP Hot Rod Cams. I am currently running the stock intake but a future upgrade is always in the works.

RonG

  • While a 62 mm Throttle Body is slightly larger than a 62mm, the difference may not affect the performance of the car. Sometimes parts, like camshafts, will call for certain applications that will work best with it. You can go up to a 62mm Throttle Body but it may not change anything from a 60mm. Depending on the other modifications you have done to the car, a 60mm Throttle Body might be the best route to go.

would this work with the steeda cai i am running the steeda cai right now and was looking into improving my airflow i have charge motion control plates and was curious on if this tb would work wiht my cai. thanks

  • Should work just fine. Most likely will have to modify or replace the silicone boot as the throttle body is a larger size than stock.

Would this fit with a Ford Racing Intake Manifold and BBK blackout CAI? Would I have to drill into the intake manifold

burrman

  • I used it on mine and you will need to get a different coupling boot for the cold air kit due to the larger size of the GT 500 throttle body opening. I think mine was a 4-1/2" to 5" boot . Everything else was exactly the same as the stock throttle body on mine. The stock Gt throttle body is just smaller intake opening.

Factory intake elbow? I have a Ford Racing 90mm intake and it used the factory intake elbow. Will it fit over the new throttle body or does it need modifying?

GAFeller

  • According to the supporting documents it should fit, however may take some elbow grease to get it to stay. Several other companies (Blowbyracing.com) which is supported by AM sell the 5" to 4.5/4" adapter silicone to make it seamless.

Gives my Bullitt an extra boost

I was skeptical of the gains from going from 55 - 60mm, but what a difference does it make on my 09 Bullitt (with a custom tune of course) The car is definitely snappier in the lower rpms and you feel the gains with WOT. The only downside is you have to drill holes into your throttle body to make it fit properly. Had a shop do the install for $150. Thanks American Muscle!

Not a big improvement in performance.

Ok let's talk about the sales pitch. To be honest all this part even though it's larger has done is bolt onto the original intake manifold which reduces the TB size back down to stock. And I would recommend that you change the intake too. Unfortunately once you drill the huge holes in the GT500 TB you have ruined your part. The nice cover I have on top of the motor had to be modified too. I hated to hack up brand new parts. I am a master craftsman in the best Aerospace company in the world so this was very simple to do. I did notice a small boost in performance. Just didn't like to modify new parts. I used the adapter plate as a template and had a 1/2 inch counterbore bit used in the sheet metal fabrication industry manufacturer is Craig tools. Made for a perfect match on installation. You will need to heat the rubber sleeve on your existing cold air intake in boiling water to stretch it over the larger new TB. I knotched the stock decorative cover and slid it behind the top mouts on the new TB. I will attach pics to show the bit and how I clamped the adapter plate in place.

    GT500 Throttle Body

I purchased a used GT500 throttle body and purchased the adapter plate new. Modifying the throttle body is easy took about 10 minutes to drill the holes. It took a buddy and me less than three hours to install my lowering springs, pan hard bar, and throttle body. I did purchase the new larger Silicone adapter to fit the throttle body and intake. I'm running a Spectre intake so I had to cut the spectre silicone adapter to take up the extra room since the oversize adapter is too large for the round intake. Overall good performance gain. I can really hear the intake sucking now. I am impressed with this mod!!

Great set up but needs the right CAI

I bought this set up from another company because AM didn't have it at the time. It was the best way to go without breaking the bank. The GT500 TB with adapter plate works well with the GT. I felt improved throttle response and can feel the horsepower. The problem is the CAI you use and if you have the FRPP Intake Manfold. I have a FRPP CAI with a FRPP intake manifold and the set up is nice. BUT the CAI wont fit the TB unless you have an adapter. The adapter that was provided to me by the other company wasn't that great and the way the CAI is shaped didnt help either. I had to cut a lot of the rubber off the CAI to make the adapter fit because when you have this set up, the manifold, TB adapter, and TB push the elbow of the FRPP CAI too far out to fit. Mine has stayed on so far with the way it was rigged but I have plans to change the tubing or buy a new CAI brand. It definiatly is a great TB and an awsome set up. In my opinion get either the JLT CAI or any other brand like it. P.S i also had to place a breather on my PCV valve tube because I had to cut that part out of the CAI in order for it to fit. I hope this long explination helps. Good Luck. I will post pictures soon.

    Great product

Great product More Power, Better Response is right. The GT500 upgrade kit was easy to bolt on after I completed the modifications. It took me about 30 minutes to bolt it on. Make sure you get the template or know someone at a machine shop so you can drill out the holes as required. I didn't receive the template. I called to let them know I did not receive the template. I'm still waiting for it. “The GT500 throttle body will need to be drilled out using the provided template." Also would have been nice to know the stock Mustang GT air intake will need to be modified as well. But the car runs great and for me, the kit was well worth the money! The dealer wanted $425 for the stock TB for my 2005 Munstang GT.

    Good performance gains

Highly recommend this over the BBK unit, this comes with the TPS and motor so there's no fiddling with voltages or anything. However the installation is not exactly straightforward, the holes on the TB are too far apart to fit the stock intake manifold, so you have to drill them. I didn't receive a template with mine but you don't really need it, just make the existing holes bigger so the mounting bolts fit thru. I also needed a larger rubber intake coupler that I ordered from siliconintakes, would be nice if it was included with the kit. Finally after hooking it up I got a lean engine code so a custom tune was required, even though my CAI is a no-tune. I guess the TB and CAI combined required a tune. Noticeable improvement in performance, some people say a TB doesn't add much top-end HP which might be true, but you definitely feel it when accelerating. It's just like adding a CAI, feels like the car can 'breathe' better. Also increased my intake sound as it's sucking in more air now. Highly recommended!

    Awesome upgrade for the money!

This throttle body was indeed a breeze to install. I installed it with an Airade CAI and a 91 octane performance tune and WOW!!! Major difference in acceleration and throttle response. I would strongly recommend taking the throttle body to a machine shop to have them mill the new holes using the proper size end mill bit. Since the throttle body already has mounting holes, you cannot simply drill into them and center your new holes without possibly causing damage.

    More air, more power!

GREAT product! much easier to install than other throttle body, in that you don't have to transfer parts from your current TB to the new TB, and mess with voltages, etc etc. Install was pretty much easy; took all day because I installed Charge Motion Control Plates at the same time I installed the Throttle body. BIG difference in my Pony! Got the TB, charge motion control plates, cold air intake and custom tune and the "WOW factor" is through the roof! i LOVE it! money well spent!

    OK Performance Gains

Honestly didn't really notice any real performance gains. The only advantage was throttle response. Big difference in throttle response, it's much more responsive now. Installation, however, was a pain. Did not receive a template to drill TB holes. Had to figure out how to drill the holes myself. Ended up going to the hardware store and buying new washers and bushings so that i wouldn't have to drill such big holes. Eventually got everything to fit and line up properly. Just beware that installation may be problematic at times.

    Not for Whipple Supercharged Applications

First, this would have received all 5s if it worked on my car. However, not listed on this site, but found elsewhere this item DOES NOT fit those cars with the Whipple 2.3L (140ax) Supercharger. The 180* inlet doesnt have enough tolerance between the S/C housing and the inlet to allow it to fit. The TB physically cannot fit on the inlet. AM did a great job in RMA and I've since purchased the FRPP 62mm one... Just a word to the wise for those with the Whipple S/C

Shelby GT500 Ford Racing Throttle Body with Adpater Plate

My car is a 2006 Mustang GT. I installed this Shelby GT500 Throttle Body with Adapter Plate ( already correctly machined for correct fit ) in about 25 minutes and it is a true bolt on, plug in, and go part ! Excellent fit and finish and looks great in place of the stock throttle body. I also installed the Airiad Race CAI along with the SCT Bama Tuner and installed the performance tune ( it's idiot proof ) by simply following the screen prompts. This is the best combo of parts along with the tune to get the most bang for you hard earned dollars outside of getting into new heads, cams, or a turbocharger. I would recommend these parts and tuner to everyone with a 4.6L 3V engine. More sensitive throttle response and no lag between shifts in my automatic and it wants to spin the tires even with the TCB on and not even at WOT ! Best money I have spent for performance yet and I am still acquiring other parts for future install and tuner upgrade as well.

Proceed with Caution 2005 GT Owners

I purchased this throttle body to upgrade my 2005 Mustang GT. The instructions were clear and template provided; however, I overlooked considering a new CAI that would fit this aftermarket product. Upon searching for one, I could neither find a CAI for this size throttle body for my 05 GT platform; nor could I find an adapter for the GT500 throttle body and 05 Rousch CAI (which has an angle and is different in length compared with the subsequent models for which this FTB was designed. I ended up taking it off and will try to sell it on craigslist. I put the old one back on but ordered a procharger which is on its way so ultimately it is irrelevant. While it was on it sounded great, but AM should offer a CAI that is compatible with this item for 05 GT upon checkout as it (CAI) is a necessary part.

    JUST A LITTLE BIT MORE

The GT 500 throttle body easily replaces the stock one. With some slight modification to the unit (basically enlarging the bolt holes) it bolts right on. The folks at Bama wrote me up a new tune and we were good to go. The one thing I would mention is if you already have aftermarket breather check the diameter of the rubber boot that connects them you may also need a new boot to connect them together

    Great part, tricky install

part is great. Be sure to get an oversize boot for intake throat. It is larger than stock size and American muscle doesn't have them nor will they tell you that it is needed. You will need one that is bigger at throttle body and small enough for intake tube to work.

    Silicone coupling fitment

Note that the 4-1/2" silicon coupler that currently ships with JLT Series-3 CAI will _not_ fit to the GT500 TB, which requires a 5" coupler (6.2" x 3.5") even with stretching. Some reviews have said that JLT will fit up but this is not the case.

    looks and Performance

The throttle body is not bad American Muscle delivered it a day sooner than I thought only thing that I can say about the throttle body as a negative thing is are you also going to have to upgrade your rubber coupling that connects to the cold air intake to the throttle body it will not fit it is an inch and a half off so on your rubber coupling you will need to go by A 5 inch on one side and 5 and a half inches on the other side you will have to look online to order it could not find it nowhere else because it is too big that and the throttle body does not line up with the hose on a Ford Racing intake manifold you have to grind out hold out a little wider for it to match up but just the only one hold but it did create a better for throttle response then with the Ford Racing intake manifold it is breathing a whole lot better
