JBA H Pipe installation and review

I spent the afternoon installing the jba h pipe on my '14 mustang 5.0 along with gt500 axle backs and here's what I think and you need to know: INSTALLATION: (after cat installation, I did not want to take the cats off because I live in CA) Getting the stock h-pipe off is not that difficult just save all the clamps and bolts. When installing the JBA piece the pipes line up fine but I ended up with an exhaust leak around the c-clamps for both the front parts of the pipes that connect to the cats. I think this is because the pipes just don't "go into" the cats enough, so I HIGHLY RECOMMEND some exhaust tape and it cures the issue. The back part of the pipes are connected to the rest of the exhaust system in the back with some GIANT clamps so I think that's why they did not leak. SOUND: they sound deep along with my gt500 axlebacks. I installed these both at the same time on a bone stock car and let me tell you: they rumble when you push the gas ( but not too loud just deep and throaty) and at idle they are almost same as stock ( only if your standing outside the idle sounds a little more "rumbly") If you want a nice throaty "rumble" this h pipe definately helps. As far as performance the car feels like its less restricted and can breathe better. It likes to go into the higher rpms a little easier, so all in all I'm happy with everything. AMERICAN MUSCLE ALSO GOT MY ORDER TO ME FAST AND PROMPT AND THE PACKSGES WERE IN EXCLELENT CONDTION!! THANKS GUYS :)

More than a tad' bit loud!

So pleased with these H-pipes. Used the downtubes & deleted the cats. 02 sensors screwed in perfectly. When you get to right side catalytic bolt, the one closest to the frame must be removed via the engine bay with an extra long ratchet extension. Other than that hiccup, installation was a breeze. Now on to the sound. The tips on the axel-backs now stick out some since the H-pipe was sandwiched in there. This 5.0 growls now, you can actually feel the rumble under the seats. This H-pipe along with the Roush C.A.I. & Axel-backs provide one intoxicating sound, make no mistake, with this setup, they are loud! You will not be disappointed. Thanks to Alex & Ken at A.M. (O2 sensor extensions are not needed)

    Great aftermarket exhaust upgrade

Just installed this piece on my '13 GT with GT500 mufflers outback, iTSX, Steeda CAI, and Boss intake. The fit was great with minimal leakage around the crossover tube and one of the ball sockets on the cat delete pipes. With a few miles and some carbon build up the leaks should seal up. Anyway the sound. Holy smokes it makes a symphony when you stomp on the gas. The combination of this, the mufflers, and 7500 rpm is fantastic. I have always loved the sound of h-pipes over x-pipes and this does not disappoint. Not super load when driving around town but definitely makes some noise when you hit it. Cannot comment on power gains because I installed this at the same time as the cai and Boss intake but together these parts gave my car a huge boost in power. At least on my butt dyno. Highly recommend. Great addition to my car.

    Muscle Car Growl

Just got this H-Pipe installed a few days ago... it has made my 5.0 even more fun to drive!!! Other modifications I had prior to the install included the Roush Axle-Back Exhaust, Roush Cold Air Intake, and BBK 85mm Throttle Body. First, let me say that the sound didn't change dramatically compared to the stock H-Pipe. I would say the sound has a SLIGHTLY deeper and guttural muscle car sound. And a lot of the popping sounds that came with stock are lost. However, when I open it up now... the higher pitched rasp from the stock has changed to a smoother "bassier" growl. Overall, I wish the sound was a little louder after the install... but the exhaust note sounds a muscle car :) Surprisingly, my 5.0 is noticeably more responsive after this install even though I kept my Cats. It is very slight, but response to pressing on the gas and acceleration seems faster. No dyno numbers to back it up, but it is there. The car's exhaust flow in general feels smoother and less choked, especially when I give her gas!!!

    Great looking H-Pipe

The H-Pipe fit into place just fine. The only issue I have is that it kept leaking around the ball and socket joint with the factory catted downpipes. The leak was where the bolt tightens the factory C-clamp around the joint (opening of the C). After some tweaking, I finally just smothered the clamps in muffler cement. I don't know whether to attribute this to the JBA ball fitting into the factory downpipe socket or the other way around. This is the reason is gets 4/5 stars. Not sure what sound quality was gained because I swapped axle-backs and deleted the resonators during the H-pipe install. Great bang for your buck and also looks sharp!

Makes the GT500 AB even sexier.

The welds were okay looking, there was no leaks or anything so they got the job done. The packaging was great. I got these installed at a performance shop, and opted for the cat delete, although hesitantly since I didnt want it to be too loud. For reference, I have the GT500 Axle backs. The shop said the install was perfect, no gaps, no issues, no leaks. I did get a tune from Bama to get rid of the CEL since i did the cat delete for off-road use. The sound: Basically amplifies the sound of the GT500. There is little to no rasp, and just sounds MEAN. there is NO drone at hwy cruising speeds, but you can def hear it when accelerating with the windows down. If you think the gt500 is slightly not loud enough, get these. Even with the cat deletes, it's awesome sounding, without ruining your neighbors day while regularly driving. You can rev it, and wake up the neighborhood, but you can tame it as well. A slight bit loud at cold startup, but that goes away in 20 secs. Smell? isnt that bad at all. I can only smell it in my garage, but it's not a bad smell, just smells like exhaust. I cant smell it in traffic. The gains? Well, with the tune, i can def tell some immediate improvement in throttle response, and over all smoother acceleration and tq curve. I will be getting it dyno'd soon, to compare to the preinstall.

    Vicious sound...

Purchased this after-cat h pipe to go along with my GT500 axleback. Installed the optional cat-delete pipes that came along with it. First off, I have been an exhaust junky since I got into the Mustang world with my 2002 GT. Always in search of that perfect note. This Coyote motor was going to be a challenge. Lots of cackle and drone from the wrong exhaust set up. This 3" JBA H pipe really lowered the tone of the exhaust, literally no cackle paired with the FRPP mufflers and no drone at highway speeds. Install was easy, fitment was great which wasn't the case with mid pipes I've installed in the past. If you're looking to add power and gain some intimidating growl to your car without getting overly loud and annoying, this mid-pipe with a baffled performance muffler is the way to go!. The JBA 3" H pipe completed my perfect exhaust note!

need a little elbow grease but worth it

first i want to say it didn't take an afternoon but it took me more then an hour. the only issues i ran into was fitment where the delete pipes meet with the h-pipe. after a bit of wrestling around with it and over tightening the clamps it came out just fine. the sound alone is worth any trouble you might run into installing this on your own. lastly don't forget to readjust your axle back since the the aftermarket mid pipes seem to be longer then stock and cause your tips to stick out further.

Sounds pretty good, makes a decent amount of power

The "H" portion of the pipe that was welded onto the straight pipe was welded to a jagged cut hole. I had to cut and smooth out the transition from the main pipe to the H myself with a dremel. The Install for me was pretty much impossible, trying to get to the bolts that attach the down pipes to the exhaust manifolds was never going to happen. I tried for a couple hours before giving up and paying $200 to have it done at Muffler Man.
