  • Direct fit replacement
  • Fabricated aluminum construction
  • Fits 1986 to 1993 5.0 V8 Mustangs
Description
High Performance. Moroso has designed a high performance direct bolt in fabricated aluminum coolant tank to replace the weak stock factory plastic coolant tank that is prone to failure in high temperature race situations. Durable Construction. Manufactured from high strength lightweight aluminum this Coolant Expansion Tank is much stronger and better looking than the stock factory plastic tank. And it features integral mounting bracket and fittings to ensure a secure fit.

Application. This Moroso Aluminum Coolant Expansion Tank is designed to fit the 1986 to 1993 LX and GT Mustangs equipped with the iconic 5.0L V8 engine. Reuses the stock factory cap.

Technical Note. This Radiator Overflow Tank does not include the cap or the low coolant sensor, it is designed to reuse your own. 1986-1989 Mustangs will need a 1990-1993 style low coolant sensor, the 1986-1989 style sensor is not compatible with this coolant tank.

Excellent fit and finish. Far better than plastic.

    September 29, 2011

This new Moroso product was easily installed in my '92 Mustang GT. The design mounting brackets lined up perfectly with existing speed nuts. In addition, I replaced the original expansion tank hose with a heavy duty 5/16" I.D. heater hose and S/S hose clamps......26 to 30 inches is sufficient. With the heavier gauge rubber hose installed on the inflow port on the bottom of the tank, it is not possible to route the hose straight up to the radiator neck, because the bottom radiator hose does not allow the 90 degree upward swing. I found that routing the expansion tank hose below the bottom radiator hose prior to passing it upward allowed the installation w/o problems. With an aluminum tank, you cannot fill the expansion tank by visually inspecting the coolant level in a plastic tank. I found that 45 to 46 ounces of coolant puts the level half way between the "cold" and "hot" level.

    It looks good

    May 22, 2014

This tank only uses the 2 bolts to mount it down to the fan shroud. It doesn't use the clips at the bottom like the stock one does. The worst thing about this design is that the hose that connects from the bottom of the reservoir tank to the filler neck of the radiator, is not placed well. It is placed so it runs right into the lower radiator hose. You have to route the reservoir tank hose under the lower rad hose and then run it up the filler neck. And of course the old line isn't long enough. Not sure what cap fits this tank....it is not the stock one. Have not had the time to figure that one out yet.

This tank is supposed to utilize the stock cap. If you are having an issue with yours, please give us a call and we can help figure out what is going on.

    Very Good

Looks great, a direct fit over your plastic one. I would advise taking off your fan shroud to put it on, other wise your AC compressor gets in the way.

    Looks Great!

    January 27, 2012

I have a 16" Mishimoto electric fan, so custom mounting was the way to go for this. Not only did I need to shift the fan to the right 2 inchs, there was only a top mount screw that I could use. So I got a thin bolt, nut, and two washers and mount it directly to the radiator. Looks awesome, but the job was more complicated then I anticipated.

    not great but not bad

    July 11, 2014

as shown in the pictures this tank doesn't include any type of brackets or a new hose but that's acceptable since you know it before you buy it but still a bit deceiving. The oem cap works just fine, no issues there. since it does not include a hose the oem hose is too short also so I had to go get a new one. what I found annoying is that the hose on this tank is bumping against the larger lower radiator hose and you have to play around to reroute the overflow tank hose. kind of deceiving to get this type of issues from a big brand name like moroso. none the less I got it installed but it could have been easier for a simple tank. what took me a lot of time is running around to put the hardware pieces together to install this tank.
