Review & Installation Video

Hi I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I have with me CDC’s unpainted classic chin spoiler and the pre painted Mustang GT chin spoiler fitting all 05 – 09 Mustang GTs. In terms of styling you can see both spoiler options really add a lot to the front end, which in stock form can sometimes seem a little bit incomplete or unfinished. Both chin spoiler options are not quite as radical as CDC’s aggressive chin spoiler for the S197, which does offer a little more rake and will stick out slightly further. But in the end, both chin spoiler suit the front end well, and it all boils down to personal preference. As for construction, both options are made by CDC using high pressure injection molded urethane, which is going to stand up to just about any kind of abuse you can throw at it. This material is going to allow the spoiler to bend and flex without cracking, which is good just in case you ever accidentally hung up on a curb or something like that. As for the finishes you can see our classic CDC chin spoiler installed on our 2006 behind me, is unpainted which definitely looks good as is, or alternatively you can opt for the pre painted version seen back there on our 07 GT. The pre painted version is painted right here at AmericanMuscle.com headquarters, using the same base and clear coat that Ford uses in their factories, making for a perfect color match, right out of the box. Installing the chin spoiler is very easy and should only take you about an hour from start to finish. Of course you can do the install with the car on the ground but it does help to get the car up in the air slightly, just to give yourself a little more room to work. Another good thing about the install is that it requires no drilling whatsoever, instead using the supplied 3M automotive tape, and the 3M adhesion promoter. This is a very important step because it basically ensures a secure bond between the 3M automotive tape and the chin spoiler itself. Your first step is to rub that 3M adhesion promoter on the inside of the chin spoiler, on the upper portion wherever that 3M tape will go. After you get the 3M tape installed, simply reuse your factory hardware along with the two included push pins to get the job done. The CDC classic and the pre painted Mustang GT chin spoiler offer good quality materials and great fit, and are a great choice for anyone in the market looking for a front chin spoiler for their S197 GT. Be sure to check out both options right here at AmericanMuscle.com

  • Unfortunately, this CDC Chin Spoiler is only meant for the GT. We do carry a CDC for your V6 Mustang though! I have added the links for the CDC and a few other options below if you'd like to check them out!

How can you get the ends of the spoiler painted? Ive seen many pictures of this spoiler even under the photo gallery where people have only the ends of the spoiler painted and the middle stays black. Does American Muscle do this or what?

Cpelaez1

  • Unfortunately, that is something done locally. We sell this chin spoiler either completely unpainted or completely painted; we don't have the option of just the ends. A local shop near you should be able to paint the ends for you without much difficulty though. Hope this helps!

Question Resolved

I bought a 2006 Mustang GT a couple months ago, super happy but want to do a little tasteful modding. I'm seriously considering this spoiler but am concerned about clearance. The previous owner lowered the car (not sure how much, there's about 5 inches clearance right now) and would like to know the dimensions of this product or its clearance on a factory height GT. Is it even worth getting if I may be scraping it on the pavement or worried about every little dip in the road?

mrshizzlo

  • My "07" is lowered and I run this spoiler but it's un-painted. Clearance is fine but, you need to be aware of whare you are trying to go on what types of roads. I have no problems on the freeways. I don't go over speed bumps and am aware of parking lot curbs. So, if you are aware of your surroundings you shouldn't have any problems. And it really makes the car look better.

Review from Chin Spoiler - Pre-painted (05-09 GT)

    Poor paint

I was disappointed with the quality of the finish, This was due mostly to poor preparation on the part of AM. The part did fit well. I am disappointed every time I look at the front end of the car. This is the only thing I have ever received from AM that wasn't satisfied with.

I recently purchased the CDC unpainted chin spoiler for my 06 GT. After watching the video from AM I decided to go it alone and put the spoiler on. I did the job in about a 1/2 hr with the vehicle on the ground and by myself. This product is fantastic and easy to install. Makes a world of difference in the front end look of my GT. Highly recommend this for anyone looking for a somewhat cheap upgrade.. Good Job to AM for selling such a good and easy to install product..

Review from Chin Spoiler - Pre-painted (05-09 GT)

    Good but not great

When I first opened the box I was happy. The paint job looked great and there was no defect or anything wrong with the spoiler. I checked the fit before installing and was not to happy. One side fit great but the other side had a different gap between the lower grille and front edge of the chin spoiler. Since the car and spoiler are both white it is hard to notice but you can notice it. The spoiler fit so tight that when trying to wrap spoiler around the fender well the paint around the holes that secure it to the car fender well just cracked and peeled completely off. Had to touch up about a half dollar size spot inside the fender well with touch up paint. There was not enough 3m tape supplied either. So when laying down the tape make sure and skip every 2 inches or so to make it go all the way along the front edge. For the price and poor paint along the mounting holes is why I rated it lower than 5 stars. This product should sale painted for about $230. My car has a Eibach lowering kit on it and the ground clearance after chin spoiler install is not to bad. I can get in and out of driveways and speed bumps with minor car maneuvering .

Review from Chin Spoiler - Pre-painted (05-09 GT)

    Chin Spoiler

This is a very nicely engineered product and should have been added at the factory. The paint is a perfect match. I had to take the spoiler to a local body shop to have the rally stripes painted on it to match the car and they even commented about the match of the color. The only thing that I noticed was during the packaging process, one of the mounting tabs on the spoiler was bent back and was held by the bubble wrap. After I un wrapped it and test fit the part on the car, I had to straiten out the tab which resulted in cracking the paint on the tab and chipping away from the spoiler. Because this is located within the wheel well I just touched up the paint and I am good with it. I would defiantly recommend this spoiler to anyone who is looking to add one to their car.

    I'm satisfied...

I followed the instructions and had the whole job done in under 30 minutes. Turn the wheel to the left to remove/replace the screws in the left wheel well, you will reach behind the inside of the tire...A "stubby" phillips will let you do the job with the wheel turned either way. Love the new look, and the fact the spoiler can be dry fit first...

    Fits tight, looks great

I purchased mine painted because the paint process is critical on this material. It has to stretch and flex to be installed. The color and fitment are perfect and it looks awsome. Install is easy if you follow the directions and have a phillips screwdriver. You can access the fender screws by turning the wheel so you don't even have to remove the wheels.

Review from Chin Spoiler - Pre-painted (05-09 GT)

    Front spoiler pre painted

This is a very well matched piece both by color and design. It balances the look of that car perfectly, especially from the side. It takes away the "overbite," look of the front bumper making it look more sleek. It reminds me a little bit of the cattle catcher that the Cobra-R had on it. My car was already lowered when I got the spoiler. You have to be very very careful driving a lowered car with this thing attached! First day i had it, I bottomed out going out of a parking lot that wasn't even that steep. So if your stang is already lowered you might want to think twice about it. I am very happy with it other than that. It makes the car look way more mean!

    Awesome chin spoiler

Great product...color is right on. I had a body shop install it because I had stripes painted on it. The guy said the install took 20 min and was super easy. The chin spoiler looks incredible and gives the car a more aggressive look. Ford should have put this on in the factory!!

Came well packaged, perfect fit and easy install. No need to remove front wheels for install, just use a 1/4" drive socket set and a screw driver bit, you do not even have to turn the steering to get screws out and in. Kept it black on my vapor 08, looks great! - Thanks AM

Review from Chin Spoiler - Pre-painted (05-09 GT)

    Looks Awesome!

I purchased the CDC classic chin spoiler pre-painted at AmericanMuscle in Vista Blue Metallic for my 2006 Mustang GT. This product arrived packaged very well with no damage whatsoever. The paint quality and colour match were outstanding. This thing fit on my car like a glove. It fit flawlessly and the car looks like it came from the factory with this spoiler on it. The installation was easy as the instructions were very good. I carefully followed the instructions and I had it installed in less than 30 minutes working alone. Some say that it is easier if you jack up your car or remove the wheels or have a second person helping. I have to disagree on all items. I did it alone with the wheels on and the car planted on my garage floor and I had no issues whatsoever. Just make sure that you have a ratchet with a Phillips attachment because if you only have a Phillips screwdriver you will surely have some difficulty with the wheels on. Great product! My car has received a lot of looks since I put this part on! Now hopefully soon you guys will start offering pre-painted hoods! D. Smith Newfoundland & Labrador, Canada

To paint or not to paint

I was very surprised at how well this fit. The holes really do line up for the screws. I spent more time debating on whether or not to paint it. I have a Satin Silver color so I opted to keep the contrast and not paint.

A bit pricey but looks great.

Installation was easy but the directions weren't that great. I ended up sanding the wrong part at first and screwed up the finish a little. Fitment was so tight I thought I was going to break the spoiler at one point to make it fit around the fender well. Looks great after install. I really wish the price of these plastic pieces would come down about 50%. They are all WAY overpriced.
