  • Polished Aluminum Finish.
  • Simple Installation
  • Fits 05-09 4.0L V6 Mustangs
  • No Tune Required
Improves Horsepower. This SR Performance Cold Air Intake kit completely replaces the factory air box and restrictive paper filter element in your 2005- 2009 V6 Mustang with a high flow filter assembly for a noticeable increase in horsepower and throttle response while filtering out destructive power robbing dust particles. This CAI pulls cooler denser air from inside the inner fender well to make more power that you can feel.

Reusable Filter. Included in this kit is a High Flow reusable air filter. So no need to go out and buy a new filter every few thousand miles. Just clean the filter, re-oil it, save money, and go!

Polished Finish. An SR Performance Cold Air Intake not only improves horsepower and acceleration, but it also improves your Mustang's under hood appearance with a striking polished aluminum finish. Now you can have the best of both worlds, performance and style.

Simple Install. SR Performance Cold Air Intake kits are relatively easy to install with basic hand tools. No extra modifications are required for the installation. See the video below for an overview of the installation process.

Technical Note. The Mass Airflow Housing and Sensor are not included. This kit is designed to reuse the factory unit.

Will I have to tune to run this

  • No you don't need a tune but it is suggested to add a tune to really feel the horsepower and torque gains.

I had purchased a similar item in the past and it caused for my engine to ping and for it to run lean. Will this product cause the same thing

  • I can't promise you that you won't experience an issue seeing as every car has been through different paces but speaking from personal experience this intake hasn't cause me any pinging noises or too lean/too rich codes. Hope this helps.

Could I fit a K&N cone filter on it? I don't see a brand or anything to tell me much about this cold air intake. The price is insanely cheap compared to other cold air intakes so I am slightly skeptical. Could I place a K&N cone on it because I really like the K&N brand.

supersixer

  • This is the American Muscle brand CAI. The filter is just as good as the K&N Cold Air Kits. If you want the K&N filter, just get the K&N kit, the price of the filter, you would have to purchase separately, would make the cost savings of this kit not worth it. In any event, I would recommend getting an SCT tuner from BAMA Performance to make the most out of this or any future mod. I hope this answers your question and thanks for choosing American Muscle!

How much horse power do you gain with this CAI? How much horse power and will this make my new flowmaster american thunder muffler sound better?

mustanglover1

  • I can't say exactly but you'll probabely pick-up about 10+ HP. I also think it'll sound better because it can bring in better air. (If it can breathe better it'll sound better.)

air intake for 2007 V6 I have a 2007 V6 mustang. I replaced the factor air filter with a K&N rectangular filter. I was looking on the website and saw the American Muscle cold air intake for $75. The coments statede a 10-15hp gain. I am a bit sceptical of that without tuning as it seems that most cold air intake systems i've seen use smaller diamiter intake pipes tan the factory. Is it the smooth aluminum pipe that helps increase flow? Also, the factory intake pulls air from the fenderwell and the path is completely isolated by the factory air box. What advantage does the heat shield provide over the box? Any information is appreaciated. Thank you.

ryanbong07

  • 10-15hp gain is typical for open cold air intakes without specialized tunes. Recommended name brand tuners and performance chips generally add 30hp or more pending on Mods. You should gain a little over factory air box with square K&N filter and because some aftermarket systems may be smaller does not mean they don'y improve performance. It's about air flow pattern not only diameter. Naturally the heat shield will protect the air filter and offer higher volume of air, but mostly while driving. Heat shields biggest weakness is during standstills, which really isn't much in comparison for a short period of time per stop.

SR Performance Cold Air Intake (05-09 V6)

I bought this Intake In mid April this year and I Installed it in my auto class in high school. The install was very easy and direct. When unboxing the intake the intake came all polished great and looking great for such a affordable price. When installing the intake I also added on a throttle body spacer along with it. The intake was running amazing for the the price, it looked great under the hood with the little bit of power gains to notice behind the wheel. Now just yesterday my mechanic wrench comes on in my car saying something was wrong then my engine light came on so I took it to the mechanic shop I always take it to sense there trustworthy and had them diagnose my mustang. It ended up was throwing codes for my MAF sensor because I'm running lean now cause its not getting correct air flow. It was not a bad buy but I will be having to invest into a tuner now even though it says you can use your original MAF sensor.

    do not buy

While the item is easy to install and looks very nice, after only a few miles my check engine light came on. I checked and everything was connected properly and secure. Also, the performance gain is hardly noticeable if at all. Very disappointed with this purchase only bad thing I bought from AM.

If you want a cheap cold air intake then look no further! I have to say, you really won't go wrong if you just want the look and sound of a cold air intake, however...no instructions included, it feels as cheap as it is, throws codes immediately (this needs a tune, don't kid yourself) and just generally doesn't seem super high quality, then again, it doesn't have to be so as far as its concerned, if you want to get a cold air intake and tune, get this intake so you can save for the tuner. Seriously though THIS NEEDS A TUNE.

    Decent intake but needs tuning

While it was fairly easy to install. I bought this cold air intake hoping I could attach it to my V-6 mustang without the tuner. But unfortunately the check engine light has come on and the only way to fix it, is to either re-install the stock air-box or buy the tuner. Save your cash and buy a tuner with this or any cold air intake.

    Saw no gains whatsoever

Installation was a breeze but the heat shield is rather flimsy and moved a lot. I saw no performance or gas mileage gains but rather the opposite. The intake was much warmer after driving than my stock one. I switched back to stock.

Took about an hour. I had to find a couple nuts and bolts but it wasn't hard. No instructions but I used the Stack Racing online PDF to do it as this is a clone of one of their products.

    V6 Intake

I liked the item, looks great under the hood. It was quite easy to install, no real issues except that the assembly was missing a single screw, but thats not a big deal. The improvement was felt almost immediately, can't wait to see how it performs with the tuner.

quick and easy to install even though it does not have instructions, stock bolts/clamps work if the need be. 0-60/100 is way faster with this on and the reusable filter is a cool idea

    BEST BANG FOR $$$

This intake looks great and performs very well. The install was fairly easy as long as you have basic mechanics/tools. Everything bolted up fine and didn't run into any issues. If you were to ask me, id buy it again in a heart beat for a great value! Thanks from a happy AM customer.

    Great CAI for the price!!

This cold air intake is one of the cheapest I've seen and for the money, the performance gains are definitely worth it! I could instantly feel the difference in throttle response and a throatier exhaust. The installation took me about an hour, I probably could have done it faster if I knew what I was doing but overall installing it was pretty easy. The only thing is, the air filter is a bit small so I bought a larger filter at the auto shop and the performance gains were even more noticeable. Great product for the price!!

    WORTHLESS

I bought this because it was so cheap and it claimed to not require a tune. However, my check engine light immediately began to throw lean codes. I would of bought one of the more expensive CAI with the combined package with a BAMA Tuner had I known I would have to buy a tuner anyway. Now I am going to have to buy another CAI because it has been passed 30 days since I bought the thing. I just never got around to putting it on. Very frustrating way to blow $100.

    Straight forward review

Bought this mainly because it was cheaper than the other CAI listed on this site. It is my first major modification to my car under the hood and found that the installation was fairly straight forward. I used the directions on the site as a reference but the directions are fairly simple to follow. My only problem lied in the fact that the directions assumed I had two bolts securing my old intake box when my model only utilized one so I had to hunt for a supplementary bolt and clip to secure the heat shield. Once the difficultly of securing the heat shield properly had passed I breezed through the rest of the installation. I was worried I would get a check engine light since I had read on other reviews that is a common problem but I had no problems once the installation was completed. Starting the car I noticed a slight difference in sound but the real change was in throttle response, the new CAI addition greatly decreased the throttle response time without a tuner, my vehicle accelerates quite a bit faster now with this modification. I would recommend this product to anyone that is looking to make a fairly simple modification to their mustang under the hood, it will certainly make you feel like you know your car a bit better.

    Cold Air Intake

This part is pretty fun, fits perfectly onto the car and easy to install. Was missing a bolt but thats pretty easy to find. It looks great under the hood, and does add enough power to notice a slight difference. Overall a great part, has a nice sound during acceleration and paired with exhaust makes the car just sound a little deeper in general.

    Still Missing Nuts & Bolts

Well, I read all the reviews before I purchased. I was scheptical because of the low price. I received the item in 2 days. I must say, you get what you pay for. The tube had a couple of large scratches, and a big dent on the lip at the throttle body end. Also this item is still missing nuts and bolts, which is a major pain when you dont have any extra laying around, and have your car torn apart, then have to put it back together and make a run to the dang parts store for freakin nuts and bolts! I have noticed a difference in power, and fuel economy though. In the end I suppose it balances out. I got what I paid for.

    V6 Must have!

Four stars because there were no instructions, and it was missing bolts (this came to my attention after I had everything else tore apart). The power upon accceleration was noticable right away. My stang instantly sounded more aggressive and had a bit of a whine to it. As for ease of install, this thing is incredibly simple, even for someone with little to no mechanical experience. In summary, you cannot find a better way to spend less than $100 bucks on your V6 Stang.

    not bad for the price

This cold air intake was very easy to install, I just used the instructions from the stack racing cai as this seems to be a clone of it. Had a little trouble with the heat shield but nothing a little forcing it in couldnt solve! Definitely some noticible throttle response and minor hp/trq gains. Almost like the info says you do not need a tune with this, I've had it on for about a year now and its still running great. However, the reason I gave it 4 stars is because when I first installed it, it threw on the check engine light which was a little disconcerting. But after some driving and resetting the ecu it went away. Overall if I were to buy a cai again I would probably save my money for a jlt /tuner combo Instead. But if you absolutely cannot afford anything above this, it is still a good product.
