Reliable Operation. If your 1986 to 1993 5.0 Mustang is running rough, stalls out, or has trouble starting you may be in need a of a new Professional Products Throttle Position Sensor to correct the problem for reliable operation.

Regain Lost Power. A properly working throttle position sensor (a.k.a. TPS) is a critical part of your Mustangs intake system, it senses the opening and closing speed of the throttle and relays the information to the vehicle's computer to determine how much fuel, spark, or timing is needed. So replace your old malfunctioning TPS with a brand new Professional Products Throttle Position Sensor and regain your lost power and gas mileage.

Application. This Professional Products Throttle Position Sensor is designed as a direct fit replacement on all 1986 to 1993 5.0L Mustangs.

I'm having some idle issues with my Mustang, so I replaced the throttle position sensor, but the problem still happens. But I thought I'd ask you guys about it to see if anyone at American Muscle knew about the fix. Occasionally the car will fail to start, stall at idle, or stall while driving. It only happens when it is hot outside, and it is more likely to happen when the car has been driven, rested, and then driven again. Any ideas? So far I have replaced: distributor cap and rotor spark plugs and wires ignition coil fuel pump and filter EEC and fuel pump relays

  • Hello! With idle issues it is extremely hard to diagnose without knowing the code the car is throwing or physically being there. Your best bet would be to have a shop do some diagnostic testing to identify the exact problem.

I have a 93 notch with a 331. Will this replace my current tps which looks to be stock without any issues or need retuned?

  • This will replace your current TPS sensor and will not need to be retuned.

I have a professional products throttlebody and the tps wont bolt on because the shaft is too long, is there a spacer I can buy or will this solve my problem? TAI

  • This is going to be a direct replacement for the factory TPS. It will not be any longer or modify to work in other applications.

I have a stock 92 GT and it idles fine until it warms up and reaches operating temperature. Once it warms up, the idle climbs to about 1500-1750 and holds steady. Only after the car is shut off and cooled does it go back to a normal idle level. When the car is idling high, I have unplugged the TPS sensor and the idle dropped to about 800. Once I plugged it back in it climbed right back to about 1500. Could the TPS be there culprit?? Any info or advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • It sounds like you may have a faulty TPS. It may be sending a wrong reading. I suggested checking what signal is coming from it first before you buy another sensor. If it ends up being the sensor, it is a good idea to replace your faulty one with the Professional Products Throttle Position Sensor (86-93 5.0L).

Hi I was wondering if throttle position sensor would fit SR 75mm throttle body

  • Yes, perfect fit...I used the SR 75mm TB on my 331 stroker.

Getting great gas mileage from this sensor

Starting having issues where my car would stall out when I would come to a stop first thing in the mornings, and also having erratic idle problems. Ordered the BBK brand and for some reason would not hook up to my plug, but AM worked with me and sent me the Professional Product brand and plug right together. Couldn't believe the difference in the way my car runs now it's like night and day and my gas mileage went straight through the roof

    It Works

Well its a tps so not much to say, it worked, but in my application I found the design to be wrong, where the wires go in you will notice a big ledge of plastic that bumps out, this hit on the intake and prevented me from swiveling the tps to get the correct voltage, so I had to file it all the way down to were the wire insulation was actually exposed! I also had to drill out the mounting holes to get it to swivel to the correct postion, but this is a common practice that is to be expected, would of rather it been more similar to stock tps in shape so I didnt have to modify it so heavly but with that said the price is way better than a stock replacement, AM got it here fast, and ultimatley it works so I'm good with that, just relieze you may need the know how to mod it a bit and you'll be good

TPS brought Throttle Back to life.

This simple addition to an 89 Fox Body 5.0 made all the difference. The throttle was acting sluggish and slow. Installed this product and it resolved those issues with a simple 5 minute or less install of the new TPS. Improved throttle response and quicker response through the entire RPM range.

Improved my idle. I can't tell any difference in performance or driving. It did not take care of the issue that I hoped it would, but was a great value and worth a shot.
