WOW!

Can definitely tell the difference in sound and a huge difference in the exhaust note. 5 hours labor. Good low note until about 30mph then the car starts to rip like a muscle car should!

Hey I’m Justin with AmericanMuscle.com, and I’m taking a closer look at the Pypes Long tube and shorty X pipe combination, fitting the 4valve 4.6L V8 found in all 2005-2010 Mustang GTs. I’m sure that many of you are aware that running a set of long tubes is going to yield the largest results in terms of both horsepower and torque, when compared to your factory manifolds, or even an aftermarket shorty header. What you may not know is by running a set of long tubes, you’ll almost always have to modify your mid pipe. This system from Pypes takes all the guesswork out of this process, by pairing your long tube headers up with the shorty X pipe, making for a direct bolt on no modification needed install. Taking a closer look at these long tubes from Pypes you’ll first notice they went with a brightly polished, 1 5/8” 304 grade stainless steel constructions, this diameters going to be pretty much the norm as far as aftermarket headers are concerned, with the one lone exception being the max long tube headers, that utilize a slightly larger 1 ¾” tubing. The Pypes also feature great welds throughout, including the inside of the welds here which you’ll find great penetration, and the best part is they’ve all been smoothed out so it’s going to help reduce any excess exhaust turbulence. As for the mid pipe again we’re looking at mandrel bent stainless steel construction throughout, this time utilizing 2 ½” tubing. This is an off road X pipe so it will delete those factory cats, of course doing so will trigger a check engine light, and that’s why we stress either having a tune in place, or planning on purchasing one around the time of the install. This way you can tune for the maximum power gains with the new setup, and of course turn off that check engine light. Besides the obvious gains in power, this kit is going to completely change the sound of your exhaust, there’s really only one way to describe the sound you get from running an aftermarket long tube and X pipe combination, and that is evil, I mean you might run into a little bit more rasp than usual, but it just sounds amazing. Of course throw your favorite catback of choice into the mix, and you have a combination that will surely wake the dead. That leads me to my final point, this system from Pypes will bolt up to any stock or aftermarket Catback exhaust without issue, of course this makes for an easier install but it also makes for endless possibilities to obtain your ideal exhaust setup. We typically call any long tube header install a full day just to be on the safe side. We do have a pretty detailed writeup here on the product page that should walk you through everything very clearly. As always if you should run into any problems or you don’t feel confident enough to tackle this job, don’t hesitate to give your local shop a call. Pypes long tube and shorty X pipe is an affordable quality combination that will not only improve your horsepower and torque, but also your exhaust note, be sure to check it out right here at AmericanMuscle.com

Will these Headers Direct Bolt up? Or What headers do you recommend? I have a 2010 Roush 427R. It has Hot Rod Cams, MSD Coils, VMP SuperChsrger Pulley, K&N Filter, Ford Racing Twin 62 MM TB, and A throttle Body Spacer. It has the the Roush Exhaust, H pipe, and Cats. But I am removing the Cats.

I have a ford racing axle back exhaust currently on the car will this fit with this system or will I have to make some bends and welds?

  • Your FR axle-back exhaust doesn't directly bolt up to this Long Tube Header/Mid-pipe combo. The shorty x-pipe in this kit will bolt up to the factory flow tubes that your current mid-pipe is attached to. You can use this Header/X-pipe combo without any issues! Enjoy!!

    Great Kit

Awesome kit, install was simple, just somewhat time consuming if your doing it on your back, but well worth the labor. Exhaust sounds great, can definitely feel the difference in power, car keeps wanting to pull. Was concerned about the X being raspy but its not to bad, at least with my magnaflows. Overall this is a great pick up and Its always turning heads.

Great product for the $$$. expected a little more growl

I am writing this review a few weeks after install. Before the headers i had the stock shorties w/ catted Pypes X pipe and Roush axel backs. The car was already pretty loud but wanted the deeper growl and better flow for more power. The install was fairly easy and the gaskets included are far better than expected. I wasnt aware that Pypes included gaskets so i had bought FRPP gaskets but ended up returning them. Total install time was about 3 hrs. Overall I am pleased with the product. At idle the engine is slightly deeper than before but that might be because of my prior setup. BUT, at full throttle she comes to life and is very loud just not as deep as expected. You can def feel the torque difference and makes burnouts that much more fun! ;) I have a buddy that has similar setup as me but has Kooks headers. Honestly, they sound the same. Cant beat this price!

    Sounds AMAZING!!!

Just got back from pickin my car up from the shop. I have to say, this set-up sounds AMAZING!!! EVERYONE turns their heads when you step on the gas, thats for sure. I don't know how much power I picked up...to be honest I dont feel much of a difference, but it was well worth the price.

    Pypes LT's

Installation of the headers is a breeze. Fit and finish is top notch. The X-pipe was a bit more difficult. Ended up having it welded up to fit. it's not perfect, but it works.
